I'm at wit's end. Everything that I try to do with my scout suit either fails, or is a low-scoring, boring exercise in insignificance. I still like the scout for some masochistic reason, and I'm trying to suit up for effective fun. If one of you successfully scary scouts could slide me a family recipe, I'd greatly appreciate it. Keep it simple, I'm not bright.

Thanks, OT If your not bright scout is not for you. The only way to play this class is to wear dampeners and sneak up behind ppl with a shotty or hide in the hills with a sniper riifle. With a shotty you flank and well, blow the back of their heads off. They wont see you with your complex dampener and if someones watching you strafe like a mad man, throw grenades and run away. Stack speed mods about 2 of them and use stamina mod will make you fast and can get stamina back fast to jump more and keep moving fast. Will make you impossible for light and medium to shoot AR at you. Heavies however you are dead unless you can get behind them. |

If you can move into one of the racial suits to advanced level. Then you have the skill boost to your passive profile and don't have to waste slots on the already kind of ****** dampeners.
Patience is the name of the game. You can't just rush people head on. Make them come to you. Duck around a corner and if you see someone run back. Make them come after you and close the distance. Use scanners or uplinks to support your team (scanners make squad leaders so happy when trying to place an orbital).
I'll be honest here, your K/D will never be spectacular. You just don't have enough survivability (especially against proto suits) to put up the massive numbers. But with practice and some judicious gameplay you should consistently come out on top. |

I'm no magical scout that can give you a sure fire way to become amazing either, but there are a few things that I can suggest. Gallente will provide you with more lows while minmatar balances somewhat between the highs and lows. This really changes the tactics quite measurably between the two. Personally I chose minmatar, I like the Hunt. I try to get as many knife kills as possible and relish in each successful encounter. Plus I like to mention scout v scout knife battles are the hypeist ****. There's a certain rush engaging in knife combat. So far I have yet to meet a guy that pulls out his gun, we both have one but an unspoken rule decrees we due battle by blade. If you are going the knife route get some cardio booster and if possible kinCats/or dampener. You'll need that stamina to bob and weave around cover, bunny hopping all over the place so bullets get the impervious blue shield. Jumping is also pretty good for closing distance and charging your knife as you can charge in midair and use your momentum to thrust forward.
If you're that worried about dying try to get some shield extenders for some extra insurance. Sometimes you will be found out so that one extra hit can be all the difference between closing in the gap between you and your opponent. That said you'll need a weapon to dispatch them quickly. As mentioned before the scout shotgun combination (only outshadowed by the logi shotgun combination) , is a deadly combination. The CRG from what I've seen has excellent range.
Understand big open areas are in most cases a death sentence for us. Best to FLANK as mentioned before. And to drill then in some more FLANK FLANK FLANK FLANK FLANK FLANK. Do your team and yourself favor and trail the outskirts of the map popping snipers where the crouch as snipers are one of the biggest/annoying menace to scouts everywhere. They target you due to your low one-hit health unless with the mentioned shield extenders which increases your odds somewhat. Don't expect to take much more than a STD sniper hit. I got lucky and survived a NT-511 once but my shields and armor was kaput.
Lastly If you're looking for some good WP get some uplinks. Flanking around is easy and less time consuming for us so deploying strategic spawn points are a big plus for us. Get ready to reap in all those +25s |

gallante is a team player scout. it hunts, can take front line abuse, and mostly is there to report back intel.
minmatars are assassins.
that being said.
scouts are a play style that fortunately exists in this particular game. The gamers that died more often than killed trying to get those dog tags in BF3 would understand. either you are into it, or should be playing another role.kills won't magically come to you. you have to earn each and every one. you aren't rocking a caldari logi with a duvolle tac. you like the challenge.
So with great irony, I suggest you go caldari logi proto rocking a duvolle TAC AR. perfectly included role by CCP for non-bright people. |

-proto gallente scout suit -1 complex armor repairer -1 complex armor plating mod -1 enhanced armor plating mod -1 basic armour plating mod -proto TAC AR (I don't wana hear it; in will use the TAC long after it gets nerfed. I prefer to engage enemies at medium range) -proto SMG for CQC beastage
I've got 70 shields and 422 armor. The armor's weight slows me down more than your average scout, but I still easily outpace all other classes. Play it smart, stick to mid-range battles, fight one enemy at a time, etc. Do the obvious things and you can easily come out of every game with a KDR of 4. |

If you are not tanking (for instance, I stack range amplifiers so don't have room to tank) then always go into each fight with an escape route in mind. If you do not have an escape route ready, try to avoid engagements at all costs even if you have the initial jump on them. Strafe, strafe, strafe. If you sense the battle not going well, escape route. You're not running, it's a tactical retreat. |

For some dumb reason I went g scout because of the extra CPU an pg even tho I'm minmatar race I soon realized stupid move.!!! I since applied for respect an am awaiting but have leveled into m racial suits an am going to have one bad ass scout once respec comes. It's about how you play. Shields come back faster than your best armor rep, armor is slow an the g scout will never beat the m scout in mobility although it has more chance to to take a beating with slow armor it's speed mods will reduce armor then it has nothing for shields especially in proto if u don't run a shield an use dam mod since theirs only one slot, so if u jam green an red mods on it u have the same or less than m scout an ur armor won't come back fast unles u hide an waste CPU an pg space on a compact nano hive which is handy but wastes space. Buy a militia m scout an see how fast it goes. Now imagine going proto kinetics on it stacked....... Friggen lightening bolt! I like sneaky kills with a high profile damp knife kill that make a sniper or hacker go SUNNUFABTCH!!! Even if I have a even kdr in a game the fact that I killed u with a knife an u never saw it coming makes me EXTATIC! An I know it pissed u off so I say m scout hand to hand two complex shields k5 sg proto knives green an red an maxed profile damp an range an STAB THEM ALL PLAYING MASTER OF PUPPETS LOUD AS HELL!

I run hacking scout but haven't yet gone to proto because it's such an expensive suit that if you die 4 times in a game, you're not likely to make a profit (unless it's a PC battle).
I'm currently using the gallente adv light suit with 2 complex hacking mods and a std uplink. I rake in the WP on the hacks and those spawn points are really damn useful - when I get the lvl 2 uplinks today, I'll even be able to fit an adv scrambler/SMG (I run with both to save CPU/PG). This fitting leaves me enough room to have a couple of std shield extenders too, so a little extra protection.
If I ever see a game mode that provides more isk return (other than PC) the proto scout will be amazing and I'd go something like - 2 hacking mods, 1 speed mod, 1 stamina mod. The armor repping suit in the post above me sounds cool too. |

Just for fun, have a proto set up with 3 Complex hacking mods one day. very very fast hacking, once you hack get to a supply depot and switch to a cheap suit!
Also if you jump while running you can reload your shotgun while in the air without losing speed, since it reloads slug by slug. |

I hack a lot and kill a lot of people with my remotes. Try to find a buddy to run scout with you so you can watch each others back. Also be prepared to change suit when necessary, for example, a militia heavy with a forge gun to damage a tank and than finish it as a scout by dropping remote explosives on it. Great fun. |

Profile dampening is pointless even for Scouts in Uprising due to short scan ranges. Exception is against Active Scanners - and that's highly situational -, and if you for some reason are dedicated to hunting down Gallente Scouts dedicated to passive scanning. |

OP, you are not Assault class. You're paper thin and will die with two hits from D-TAR.
Never face enemies, always either sneak from behind or flank. Never fight on their terms, never against the swarm.
Pick a CQC weapon and get good with it. I go with SMG/novas. Learn to feel the distance and your chances initial salvo. Use bursts, not continuous fire. Aim for the head.
Murder strays and hunt the wounded. They should not be able to outrun you. Wouned game = best game.
Do some actual infiltration -- hack stuff, slit sniper's throats, leave uplinks here and there.
Enjoy being useless in PC. ;-( |

Yeah, that was what was really discouraging me. People were saying, "Of course, you're going to die a lot, but have fun!" and I was thinking, "If I go through 5 proto suits a match, my money is backwards forever."

As far as I am concerned scout is dead. I still run it because I hope CCP eventually fixes something. You can play SG scout but know this - you will do way worse than assault with a SG. You can snipe but so can everyone else, except you wont be able to tank countersnipers. You can try knives but for every kill that you score you will be killed at least ones by a back pedalling red dot laughing in your face (for those who use knives - you know what I am talking about). You can try scaning but logis will have less problems with it. Scouts used to have an advantage with scanning profile, range but now passive scanner is so badly broken it does not matter anymore. Bottom line: there is just nothing in this game that you would do better as a scout than other suits.
PS. If you really want to be successful as a scout you should start calling in the free LAV and run ppl over - this is the only viable scout tactic. |

That's funny but true. The folks so worried about LAV murders fail to see that LAV kills weren't happening in the last build because a large portion of already underpowered specialists hadn't been backed into a situational corner and had to adapt their way out. |

I'll generally run to something hackable, perhaps a railgun, use it pummel some enemy installations, and then get the heck out of dodge and look for a good place to spot/snipe from. If you stay up at a useful railgun too long a LAV will drop someone off to smack you in the back of the head during the initial scramble.
Learning the maps helps a lot... though variable structures/orientation makes it harder recognize and repeat a previous great placement unless someone airlifts you to perch. Often I'll switch between sniper and swarm depending on the murder taxi to red ratio.
I've started to find the difficulty in having enough "good games" demotivating at times... but I haven't considered running anything else yet. I'm working on CQC with my alts once I hit the SP cap though so you never know. I'd hate to jump on the AR bandwagon, y'know? |
