I don't understand why you wouldn't want to call them blasters because of the Eve turrets. It's the same technology. They are plasma blaster assault rifles. Says so in the description. And Blasters and drones are the Gallente go-to weapons, so it makes sense that all the Gallente weapons are blasters. For the same reason, all the Amarr weapons are lasers. We're just calling pulse lasers "Scramblers" for some reason. All Minmatar weapons are autocannon, and Caldari weapons are railguns and missiles.
It seems consistent to me. But the AR isn't the only assault rifle in the game. Right now we've got the laser rifle, the scrambler rifle, and the "blaster rifle". In the soon(tm), we've got a rail rifle and the minny "Combat rifle" which is in fact a light autocannon (aka a souped up current-tech assault rifle). So it makes sense to change the name to Blaster or whatever. |

Wouldn't it be confusing if you were talking about how you can't get close enough to shoot your blaster? They wouldn't know if you were talking about your assault rifle, your shotgun, or your vehicle turrets. Naming things that use the same technology but different practical usages the same thing will lead to embarrassing results.
So blaster is confusing, but scrambler isn't? We have scrambler pistols and rifles, and I've never heard the two mixed up on coms.
Blaster means something very specific in new eden: It is a direct fire hybrid weapon with shorter range and higher damage than a railgun, though it uses the same ammunition as railguns.
So yes, you'll have blaster pistols, rifles, shotguns, and turrets. And you can have railgun pistols, rifles, and turrets; laser pistols, rifles, and turrets; and scrambler (pulse laser) pistols rifles and turrets.
It's a blaster rifle. It uses the plasma blaster technology just like blasters do in Eve. When it comes out, you can bet that the Gallente pistol will be a blaster pistol.
It is also an assault rifle, but so is the scrambler rifle, and arguably the laser rifle. The naming convention isn't consistent. Changing it to a blaster rifle makes the names consistent.
