Hey guys! So, I finally got to the point in Academy where I wasn't dying every 2 seconds. Got some armor plating, assault rifle, and shield upgrades. Nothing fancy. Just trying my best. I was on the verge of enjoying myself. Then this morning, the Academy is gone, and in it's place are different game types. I like the option of choosing which game type but now that I am playing with the big boys I am back to dying every 1 second..... Can I go back or am I stuck here now? Thanks. |

Yes, its a huge problem in the game atm.
I can only advice this: stick to other players, try join to a squad and never play alone. With only 500k SP you can do 15/0 at the end of the game if you have a good squad.
Edit: you cant go back to academy, we asked CCP many times and theyr only response was: working on it. Sorry :S |

This is my #2. Just started her up yesterday. I was unhappy with my sp use on the #1. And I wanted to try some other things before the respec deadline. I would play in the academy for a month if they let me. I absolutely destroy people here. 18-16-14+ /<5 in the tdm type match ups using starter suits. These kids are bullet magnets.
Even the ones using bought gear from starter packs.
Given the dramatic amount of sp it takes to get going. I'd like to stay there for a while. Ah well... |

This is why I love and hate the academy for new character's. Sure it helps you get the basics down but the minute its over you get thrust into the real New Eden. Life as you knew it is over. There is always someone with a bigger gun than you and their crosshairs are always square on your forehead.
The best thing you can do now is squad up and stay in someone's back pocket. Provide supporting fire and flanking support. You will only encounter a 1-on-1 shootout rarely and they will almost always have better gear than you.
Survival rule #1: Never go out alone.

I spec'd into the tier one assault suit on this character.
Got level 1 AR
Basic armor & repair
Basic shield uhh... the one that adds more shields.
And I'm going down the line getting at least out of the militia gear for everything before I try to spec up to anything else.
I stick to ambush and be as opportunistic as I can. I figured out how to be a squad leader and assign obj so I make myself or another team mate in the fire zone the obj and everyone gets more points.
Even the tier 1 assault suit lets me get into nano hives and the inj, repair tool etc. So I can play crowd support and at least stand toe to toe with most people by only shooting at their heads.
If I'm getting wrecked I go back to the starter suits to save ISK and blow up vehicles or be the most annoying sniper I can. |

Yep, in RL the "fresh meat" gets shipped to the front-lines and than gets slaughtered. So if CCP wanted to recreate this experience than they succeeded. |

Just AFK or try to run over people with MLT LAVs. CCP has stated over and over again that matchmaking isn't a priority. |

Well, thanks for all the input guys! I've been trying to stick to a squad more and it is helping. Except most of my squad is so fast that they leave me in the dust (no pun intended) every time. I even tried out some medic/anti-armor roles last night and that was fun but I truly do like just being on the front line. I will just have to keep saving SP I guess.
PS - I have to say, so far, this community is far more helpful and a lot nicer than most other online games I've played. |

They should keep you there till you have around 2 million sp. It should take about 1 and a half months with no boosters and hitting your cap each week.
It sounds like a long time, but this game has a steep learning curve and with all the sabotage going on in PC, no one wants to hire new members (making it harder to get with a good, experienced crew) |

Sunset Warriors will happily take in new players and help you all learn the game. |

Yes, but aren't you guys a subset of another large corp? Kind of a training corp before they go into the real one? |

Actually no. Sunset right now is me and a couple of other casual players. I have another Dust account that is part of a larger corp, but will be pulling that character soon and placing it into this one. |

My mistake. Sorry about that.
I know alot of the larger corps are making training corps so they can weed out the spies. |

I feel your pain. I was unceremoniously booted out of the academy a few days ago. Not much fun constantly respawning. Especially, when you've used up your SP quota for the week. :(
So I created another character and now I'm having fun back at the Academy. I can let my main character soak up some boosted SP until the Wednesday reset and I get to work on a different play style for my secondary character.
Yeah, I know I'll be out of the Academy again in a week or so, but at least I'll always have enough SP to earn. :) |

Sounds like you are doing the right things and a lot of the fairer minded vets have asked CCP to extend the length of time new players stay in the academy.
However, this doesn't help you. If your squads are constantly running off and leaving you then they are wrong for you. If this is a training squad or you are being mentored then at least one experienced player should really stay behind with the slower paced players.
If you have a mic then use it as this will help a lot.
And though we complain about it, a lot, a murder taxi I.e running people over with the free LAV, is a valid tactic for a new player while you are building your SP.
H**l quite a few vets will admit to doing it when they are bored, with current play style, or frustrated. |

It seems everytime I try the LAV strike I just get blown to bits. I haven't put much SP in vehicles atm. And as for the playing in a squad... I've only had 1 squad that stuck together and it was AWESOME! We were like a 6 gunning machine. But alas, I cannot seem to hook that up again. Oh well. |

The academy is pretty short but at least you have it. Some of us that have been around a awhile didn't have that privilege. We took our knocks from the best in there fancy pants and shiny guns. Stick it out and find a corp that is willing to invest in new players. |

There is absolutely nothing worse than dying repeatedly against players with better gear than you in every battle you are in along with horrible, unorganized teammates and corporations that actively deny requests to join. Is this what Dust is all about? It's been like this for me and many more since closed beta.
Actually, this game has a horrible fun factor, if any. I have lost count of the games I have played that were utter wastes of time; we were overwhelmed, out-classed, and out skilled. This game is incredibly frustrating and any attempt to return to the game in the hopes its fixed end in disappointment. There is so much wrong with this game that need to balance players on their gear; you just can't compete at this rate. |

Yet u take the time to even post here? So u still have some glimmer of hope or u are a masochist :p My advice take a break and come-back if they actually implement a match-making system, of not than play something else. If u get slaughtered, its probably like my own experience and a result of being matched against not only better equipped, but simply better FPS players and i don't have the ambition or time/skill to compete with those. Its not a big problem for me, since i like playing Logi, which can be done from a safer distance and is more enjoyable for me. In TF2 i like playing engineer so if CCP could give me a auto-turret i would be very happy :p |

Here's the game pitch:
Here's you, a pincushion grunt, with a pop-gun, and here's the "Other Guy". Other Guy has 3 times the health, a gun that shoots farther, and it shoots razor sharp needles that rip through you in second! (mathematically speaking, his gun does 2-3 times the damage). Have fun! |

That sounds about right.
So either...
A: Run that sumamama biatch over. Nothing like smoking 30-70k worth of fancy drop suit with the bumper of a free LAV
B: Shoot that jerk off in the back when he's busy smoking your noobie team mates.
C: Cook that grenade for when he walks past your corpse
D: Quit

A: YES
B: LOL

Yup just throw it at the ground as you die. I get grenade kills from ones I've thrown before I've died all the time? |
