Hi everyone.
My purpose here is not to complain, I just think this game has a lot of potential but it's currently just too unbalanced and frustrating and I believe this CAN be solved if the developers do something about it, so I'm here to share my experience.
Before you say "Hey, you're just a newbie, you gotta get some experience and better equipment", let me explain the whole thing.
Yes, I'm a fresh DUST player. But I'm an "aged", "hardcore" (if you want to call me that way...), I'm very experienced with almost any kind of game and expecially TPS and FPS. I have "trained" reflexes but most important I play clever.
So let's try DUST 514, I'm curious! I start as an assaulter. I fall in love with the tactical GLU rifle and I quickly get to 150 kills and a KDR of 3.50 in a few games, doing very good scores like 13-2, 16-0, etc. After that, SOMETHING CHANGES. Now matchmaking lets me choose what mode to play... "cool" I think, "I love Skirmish, now I can play it the whole time instead of boring Deathm... I mean, Ambush" BUT here's what happened:
For the entire match I've been killed over and over and over by Heavy machine/Proto wide-range cannon guys with BILLIONS Shield/Health points, One shot-kill shotgun dudes camping the objectives hiding in a dark corner with super scanners, Duvolle rifles of any kind and some weapons I don't even know what they are such sort of grenade-launcher or whatever. Ok, just a bad game..? No. From now on, this seems to be the new DUST 514.
What happened? Why does everything change as soon as I get into the game? Is this game's Matchmaking KDR based? Because, unlike different games where EVERYONE got the SAME HP, this WON'T work. It should be SP or WP based. I just CAN'T stand a chance against so much overpowered enemies, even detecting them and getting them unaware, from behind, in the open space while I'm in cover, with a GLU tactical rifle. I start shooting, they turn back, they see me... I'm dead. In a split second.
Upset, I try to build a second character and this time I spend some of my SP to get a consistent shield defense. I can still afford a GEK 38 which is good. This time I manage to hit a KDR of 4.20, doing awesome stuff and feeling like a 1 man army, winning almost every game. Until that happens again: Matchmaking now allows me to choose a game mode. This time I'm ready to anything, I know this is going to be bad.
Well, it's really bad. I get overwhelmed. I have a marshmellow-loaded gun and paper armor. The very best I can do is 4 kills/4 death.
I loved this game so much for the first 24 hours. I kinda hate it now... I can't do anything. It's very frustrating because this game got something MORE than all the other classic FPS games, something shiny and lovely, and it's such a shame it's so vastly unbalanced. I'm not saying "go to hell, I'm back to Battlefield and Uncharted 3", because this game CAN be awesome, but it really needs a fix.
I'm leaving it for now, but with the hope that Matchmaking will be sensibly improved. If that happens, I'll be back to play an amazing game. If that doesn't happen it would be really sad.
I wish you the best game experience.
Thanks for reading, see ya. |

Currently, the only MM system is for extremely new persons, in the Battle Academy. After that, you're in with the rest of us. Make some friends, and you will see yourself rise to the top again.
So that's the Academy. I guessed that was for very new players because I was really able to own anyone there lol. But once out of there, I just get destroyed. Well then, let's say DUST needs some sort of Matchmaking criteria...
Thanks for your tip. I'll try to find people to team up. |

There is no matchmaking currently. We have an academy which dumps you into the real world with a basic understanding of the match types and a standard level suit with maybe an advanced weapon. Not sure how you got to a GLU TAC while still in academy. Right now if you want to win you need to get with a group and stop trying to go it alone.
That explains a lot. I just purchased the right skills to use the GLU, I was able to use it in my second match
I'd say it NEEDS a matchmaking then... |

Take your proto goggles off and look around.
It is really a shame proto stomping seems to be the funnest thing to do for the EveTards. You seem to be coming from the Call of Halo school of lack-of-thought. The fact is, this is not Call of Duty. This is not Halo. This is not even Battlefield, though that's the closest in overall gameplay feel. This is very much a tactical, squad-based shooter. If you lone wolf, you will die. If you run-and-gun, you will die. If you neglect your skills in favour of immediately unlocking Gun X, you will die. And if you neglect your loadouts in favour of pure gank and no mind to tank (be it armour, shield, or speed), YOU WILL DIE. I have yet to use a single piece of BPC gear in the game (and I'm from the first wave of closed beta invites), and I have no problem holding my own... WHEN I'M IN A SQUAD. I regularly hit 1-2k warpoints per match... WHEN I'M IN A SQUAD. And when I say a squad, I don't mean randoms doing their own thing and no comms, I mean a squad that's working together, using voice to coordinate, calling out targets, and marking objectives (this even gives extra points! If your SC isn't marking objectives, leave the squad, you're LOSING POINTS!). We don't really need matchmaking, what we need is some way of teaching people earlier that this is NOT the console shooter they're used to. This is the shooter skilled PC gamers have been playing for decades. If you don't adapt to this concept, YOU. WILL. DIE.
Well, thanks for your input... It looks simply too much "tryhardish" even for me. I might want to give up this time
