scoped sniper zoom allows you to assign orders from an increased range... i snipe a LOT, try to issue an order and get told it fails... scope in and issue it again and it works.
i dont think this is an 'intentional' issue, but a hiccup caused somewhere. i know that with an smg out you can get the order-reticle to pop up on a target at long ranges, but as soon as you attempt to asign the order it fails, but if you scope in with the sniper rifle itll work at the same range, so its not likely that it was a designed cutoff range but more of an 'hitbox' style issue where your order missed the mark even though it said you were aiming at your intended target. |

i find sniping is effective, enables me to post longer range squad orders, it allows me to provide intel to squad of what is going on with a broader birds-eye view from my sniping perch, and allows me to bounce between firefights much faster than sprinting.
cowardice or tactical advantage, call it what you will, but it works for me.
and those who say snipers are broke... admittedly not as easy to snipe in this build as the previous build, just takes some getting used to, as with any other change. |

well as i mentioned previously, which you and i seemed to have missed my point in my 'i <3 sniper rifles' rant,
scoped sniper allows the orders to be given at longer range. unscoped sniper gets error at same range as other weapons, so i do not believe it to be simply based on weapon selection.
perhaps, as i think i previously mentioned, its got something to do with precision to the hitbox. no scope = smaller target to 'hit' with a squad order. i hate to think they would put an accuracy rating on squad orders... but maybe its something relevant to that mechanic? |

and again with the personal attacks about my use of a sniper? here i am trying to be productive with stating that its not simply weapon selection, but something beyond that...
is there anything else you dont approve of so i know when to not bother trying to be productive in the future? |

but i say again, i do not believe its simply the weapon... tac rifle has an increased order fidelity as well while scoped, but still flops at the same range without scope. i will test with various weapons right now and report the results.
i believe that the squad order reticule is working similar to the target information display, if you dont have a perfect shot, but your reticule is 'close enough' the information will display, but when you pull the trigger, your order, like other trigger pulls, can miss. increasing the zoom makes the target appear larger, resulting in an easier target to get that magical 100% shot on your orders. |

i dont think blue shield is quite right, but its close. i think what it ends up being though is that they reduced the 'click to' aim assist for the squad orders. when your on opposite sides of a map, you can no longer be 'close enough' to get the circle to pop up when placing a defend order, but must actually line up the shot like you would while trying to murder a red-dot.
makes me think of trying to hit someone with a railgun installation is the closest i can relate it.
*edit*
though on the point of blue shield, improper display of bluedots is something i have noticed... in my initial trial at battle commencement, i attempted to order on an individual standing still in the redline under MCC near a bunch of vehicles getting called in, then he was alone for a bit after vehicles left, then his indicator jumped several hundred meters to towards an objective |

Also, why is M/kb so hard to use orders now?
you CAN get the orders to stick between ground base and MCC, its just REALLY sketchy... im not saying it doesnt need fixed... cause it shouldnt be as hard as it is right now... but with SMG i did get them to stick... now if it was on someone useful, i cant say, just tooling around solo right now, so my orders dont do any good, but they DID stick on somebody... |

i found that map orders CAN be applied to objectives, i didnt think to test on generic installations though, will try next match and report my findings
*edit* objectives, vehicles and yourself can be assigned squad orders from overview map, but not installations or other infantry. |

Shameless bump for my own !SCIENCE! to be seen.
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=80607&find=unread Trials ran on Line Harvest Skirmish.
Posted up at grid square B9(Defender(north side) ground spawn), getting orders to stick at E7(Objective C). Ranges were rough estimations based on my previous sniper experience. low frequency, scoped standard AR
Got an order to stick on an infantry after MANY attempts from B9 to G8/H8(Road between pipes south of both Objectives B and A). no visual, scoped standard AR.
LAV, first try, from B9 to edge of H9/I9, edge of far side redline. no visual, no scope AR LAV, first try, from B9 to F4, behind tower/pipes aimed at structure housing Objective C. no visual, no scope AR
Neutral/Blue structures at the edge of redline consistantly are easy to get consistently on the first order attempt from ground spawn. No Scope AR. Red structures can be designated, but need to be painted by allies closer to the target, did not think to attempt direct visual contact at these ranges.
from my !SCIENCE!, the trend shows that the larger a target appears on screen(possibly based on sig radius?), the easier it is to hit with squad orders. zooming in helps make the targets larger allowing orders to be applied more consistently. i could not identify any hard range cutoff for orders, managed to get orders issued at approximately 700m with Assault Rifle or SMG.
i believe that the visual effect highlighting targets will show on infantry, but the hitbox is much smaller than the visual cue range. causing you to 'miss' with the order, and receiving the 'Invalid Target' error message.
Simply increasing the 'hit box' size for the infantry could cause problems accurately placing orders on a large groups since apparently the visual cue is not tied to the actual placement of the order currently... the only 'valid' solution i can think of is getting the orders to auto-target the highlighted target(designated by the visual cue) like it used to. i am not sure how or even why this mechanic might have been tweaked with the uprising build.
the concept of 'if its not broke, dont fix it' come to mind on this subject matter... i dont remember it being broken in the previous build, but definitely feel that it is functioning in a sub-par fashion currently. |
