I fall firmly on the side of the people not steeped in the EvE universe stuff. I've never played the modern CoD games and I've only extensively played Battlefield 1943 (but I do to this day love love love it), plus a few other older FPS titles. I think that I only barely perceive what CCP is going for then when I witness them trying to weld the MMORPG to the FPS. All that being said, I just want to throw out some whys and why nots. Feel free to answer or ignore them.
1. Why did CCP not flesh out the racial storyline better, either by customizing the cut-scene sequence(s) after you had chosen your race, or by more obvious racial segregation in instant match selection (i.e. Amarrs v Caldari) or some other game mechanic?
2. Why did they instead go with the Corp system of random recruiting across all races, further muddying the water when it came to character motivation by removing it from lore and making loyalty ad hoc?
3. Why didn't they then focus upon providing all the races with suits of all makes, even if they had to at first be statistically identical, then later shade in the racial differences?
4. Why did they choose to make such a cryptic mix of weapons that do largely the same thing, instead of (as in my upper example) releasing racially stylized (and racially exclusive) but statistically identical general weapons and then gradually roll out more statistical complexity as the game gained size, speed, and subscriber base?
5. Why Militia gear at all, instead of simply low-end racially-identified gear?
I could whinge on, but I believe you see my general thrust. It's not that I hate this game, and I am starting to see the potential, but it just seems that they squandered a lot of built-in lore-driven storyline for a shifting, uneven feel of who the character actually is in this game |

"I think they've chosen to allow players to be the players, rather than TELLING us who we are. We define our own corporations and our own place within them. We don't need made up lore when we can create our own."
(sorry, messed up the quote)
So, then, the back story simply doesn't matter? And by extension, the tie to EvE is unneeded? |

See, it's weird: choosing what skills you build and weapons you choose has crippling consequence and everyone likes that, but having your very race have a lasting impact on who can and cannot be your running buddy is just a bridge too far? |

When in DUST does anything roughly analogous to that scenario happen? |
