Dust is meant to be a long term game.
New players should be able to try all the weapons in the game at the militia level.
They should get 50 to 100 preconfiged suits of each basic build type of every weapon so that they can see the general use of each of them and get a feel for the weapons in dust.
These premade suits would be unsellable and only militia grade or std without requirements. (std if only useable in battle academy)
After so many pub matches or 3 months the suits degrade and are no longer usefully.
why do I think such a thing would be good for dust?
When people first play a char they should have access to all basics of every weapon/class at the militia level and have a easy opportunity to try them all.
These suits would be premade like the AUR suits with all the equipment for their build/role.
This would help and encourage people to try out weapons without having to skill into std level
Or they could be taken away at the end of battle academy and only useable in battle academy.
It would also help reduce the learning curve of the game and increase game variety. |

Jenova's Witness wrote:There should be a free BPO grade of equipment similar to militia for all weapon and equipment types that don't have a militia variant that can only be used in the academy. Call it recruit equipment. HMGs, Lasers, Scrambler Rifles, Mass Drivers, Active Scanners... anything and everything that new players can use without skill. That way, they can test out everything and see what they like. Once they leave the academy, the equipment leaves their assets and they should get a free respec once graduated so they can fully spec into the role they found to their liking.
I agree. |

Very good idea
Would you agree on militia grade vehicles too? Tanks and dropships to be included in this "recruit pack"? Say 10 or 20 BPC and no more?
I would say they should be available in some capacity. Its hard to learn how to use tanks and fly dropships as it is, giving them a few would probably help people learn how to use them. they should also be equipped relative to their roles so new players learn how to put modules on them or i should say see how modules would work properly on tanks just like premade dropsuit fits.
But how to make it so they have enough time to learn how to use them but do not spam them? that is the question. Maybe you get a few per week while still in battle academy. or you get 1 or 2 for every so many games in battle academy you play. They would also be unsellable and removed after battle academy or something.
Its a good Idea and think it could fit in and work well if done properly to prevent abuse and veh spam.
At the same time you want enough veh so that people get used to fighting them/ countering them both in and out of the vehs.
Def yes if done well! |

dustwaffle wrote:+1 for a good idea, inc. the suggestions in this thread.
BUT, as it is the WP/SP limit on instant battle academy looks a little short, since even if you had 50 of each militia equipment, you would get taken out of the academy way way way before you finished with your equipment.
Hmm maybe they should give you the option to hang out in the academy a little longer if you want 2?

militia gear is cheap as hell, and easy to use, what more do you really need.
I do agree with every weapon having a militia level, but no reason for you to get it for free.
The point is to encourage new players to try everything, only providing 4 starter fits is the same as limiting fits, as it tunnels players into specific suits, what you want to do is give them plenty of options, and there are already free suits so your point is invalid.
Giving them more free premade suits stuff just balances out the free militia stuff they already have and encourages them to try different ways of playing the game and strategies. The whole point of the battle academy is so they can learn dust.
After battle academy ends its all taken away anyway, so they don't get to keep anything free, and besides if its so cheap why have it cost anything at all for players just starting out? its unnecessary when they should be learning the core mechanics.
Maybe you should ask CCP to provide you with a list of most popular/used drop suit fits in battle academy?
I think we both know they would be the 4 premade free ones now don't we?
Its a loaded class progression system when you provide 4 clear options right in someones face.
The game sells itself to new players on variety, so show it to them at the militia level. |
