I'm going to pretend someone from above actually listening. I've seen people doing this in church.
Let me start with saying: It's actually a fantastic game. It's cool, it's complicated, it's freaking free.
Second: It's fubared like no other game I saw. I'm not even talking about weapon balance and imbeciles running around the map aimlessly. I'm talking about really ridiculous stuff I don't understand it even happening here in final release after years in development.
Third: I'm absolutely convinced you, guys, are doing everything you can to deliver best possible experience to players (and get some milk money, of course). So I'm not here just to be an ass, I'm here to give feedback and hope you will reflect on it. So here goes:
1. People getting stuck on everything. Seriously? Not sure what's the reason for it, but I'm going to assume, you have like laziest level designers in the world. Here, I've got a picture of them creating new maps for us: http://www.steadyhealth.com/130736/Image/kids_drawing.jpg Mates, you don't need to create new maps, just fix the existing ones. Quake tournaments played on like 1.5 maps for 15 years, I'm pretty sure you've got the quantity covered already.
2. Why did you bothered to include the KB/M if you're not going to let us use it anyway? After playing years of different FPS, I was very excited with Dust supporting mouse and s***. I even got my PS3 out of the box to play this game. But last week, I've spent more time tinkering with controls, sensitivity and Logitech's SetPoint, than actually playing the game. And you know what? I'd more likely eat my dingleberries for the next month, than play Dust competitively for another week. But since Dust is a lovely game with a lot of promise and I don't want to stay behind, I take every battle very seriously and guard the MCC's drop bay to make sure noone enters from outside.
The idea you have behind balancing classes DOESN'T WORK with mouse and keyboard on a table. Soooo many games pulled this off. Crippling KB/M controls to eliminate the advantage before DS3 is the stupidest idea ever. Like borderline idiotic. EVE is a competitive universe and it should be up to players to select their weapon of choice. I always laugh when hear DS3 users complain. It's like watching my mom complaing about burnt dinner, while she was watching TV and not doing s*** in the kitchen. Cmon, mom, put your s*** together and make me proper dinner.
You have two options, I think: a) Give KB/M freedom it deserves and was made for. For example, you can be much faster in racing games with steering wheel controllers, I don't hear people complaining about GT5 supporting them. Gamepads are great for mario and nhl2013, NOT for FPS. b) Remove KB/M support completely. People like me will probably leave, but who cares? Plenty of people will stay and play casually. MAKE YOUR MIND CCP!
3. On-boarding and matchmaking experience is terrible I can see many reasons for you not resetting the SP after launch, you greedy grinch. But new people are choosing not to continue playing, because they are getting raped by someone with 20mil SP every 25 seconds or so. I've gotten out of the Academy after playing just 2 evenings in a row (I'm not a bad player, topping the leaderboards quite often). Since then, I often join games with two very strong squads from top corps playing in one team and bunch of random losers in the other. That's when I usually decide to guard the CCM and do some work. If I wouldn't be an EvE player, I would left the game like tomorrow.
4. Imbalance due to Beta characters Again, I can see many many reasons behind current position, this may be solved with better matchmaking, and I'm sure it will be at some point. But according to my calculations, I'm gonna need at least 6 months before I can actually hope to kill veterans. Or 3 months with $200 and a lot of time investment. Okay, at this point I'm just going to ask: seriously? I'm sure you don't want beta players to leave, but new people will NEVER catch up with them. Couldn't you like issue some blueprints to beta testers? Just to avoid new people feeling useless for the next 6 months? Oh, you don't need new players? Oh, screw those newbs! Gotcha!
5. WTF with vehicles killing people instantly? I mean, yeah it works like that in real life, but man, I've got shields and stuff. I can survive a freaking shot to my head. Why am I getting killed by a buggy? It's not Carmageddon, man.
6. Why is everything so expensive? I get it, you need money, and PSN got some expensive stuff and TBH, I'm a working man, I can afford it. But man, I'm not gonna spend $100 there. I'm not even going to spend 10 bucks, I'd rather eat them. Because it's just too much for nothing. But I so would buy tons of stuff for 3 bucks/piece. Read 'How We Decide' someday.
7. Who thought of making black dropsuits and green scopes? Or TAR's scope muddy green? What is it made of Sprite bottle? That's the future I'm hoping for: immortality and weapon scopes made of sprite bottles. Color diversity is great, but you gonna have to either make all of suits bright, or let us custom color them. Did you try to shoot someone in proto suit standing in the shadow through the scope of TAR?
8. Can you put sofas in the drop zone of MCC? I just want to sit down for a year or so and wait till you fix all that.
Now seriously, CCP you're doing fantastic job, and I love the premise. I appreciate you thinking big and creating the whole new experience with linking EvE and Dust, it's incredible to think of. But before you go big, you really need to go small and just create a good product ordinary people gonna love and play. The game is complicated and interesting, but it's no fun at this point. I know some people will disagree, but most people here are held by EvE, not by Dust.
Thank you.

IBTL...
1. couldn't agree more 2. yep... KB/M user here + controller
3. at the start of open beta (when linked to TQ) the skills were all reset. from that point forward, anyone has been able to play the game if they want to and keep up with the Veterans. 3a. CCP implemented Academy battles to help relieve some roflstomping of nubs by vets.. 3b. if I weren't an EvE player already, I too might have left. 4. see #3 5. "it works like that in real life" and as in real life, some folks survive shots to the head as well. 6. some relief would be good, but "buying" stuff isn't required to play the game. :) 7. CCP?, wanna field this one? 8. I'd be happy just to have a bed in my quarters that was actually "big" enough for my character to lay down in and to be able to sit down in my Merc quarters like I can in my Captain's Quarters in EvE, but yes, a sofa in the MCC (an old ratty red one maybe?) would be awesome.

Well said. But i'm 100% sure none of these problems are just a simple *boop* fixed type deal.
Give them time to smooth things out we are only 16 days into the new build.
As for the price thing. You can buy Aurum for like 2 bucks. Not much of it but if it were really cheap for the good stuff, they wouldnt make money

1. People getting stuck on everything. Seriously? Not everything, but too many less than an inch steps for my liking.
2. Why did you bothered to include the KB/M if you're not going to let us use it anyway? KB/M was pretty good last build, now it's hit or miss like all builds previous to that.
3. On-boarding and matchmaking experience is terrible They offered a reset and reimbursement to anyone who asked for it(I kept my SP as I had used my aurum to purchase boosters). Matchmaking does need work though.
4. Imbalance due to Beta characters Better matchmaking would fix this. Also, I run around killing veterans with a fully militia shotgun scout(this is my "I just want to screw around" fitting). I have zero SP invested in shotguns, scout suits, or any of the modules I use on that fitting(only electronics and engineering make any difference).
5. WTF with vehicles killing people instantly? I have no issues with this other than my AV grenades don't always damage them when they hit(seems to be only partial damage).
6. Why is everything so expensive? There are cheaper aurum packs but the merc pack is still the best value for money.
7. Who thought of making black dropsuits and green scopes? Don't use ARs, can't comment.
8. Can you put sofas in the drop zone of MCC? It should have a raccoon living in it. |

Thanks, guys.
I totally agree, these things may not be something they can fix overnight. And my experience in EVE tells me it will be fixed at some point. That's why I'm actually not giving up on this.
New issue I though of: 9. Why not put E, S, W on radar as well? Not just N. We need a good way to tell teammates where the fire is coming from. There are other ways, of course, and eventually everyone would learn, but why make complicated thing MORE complicated with bad UI?
1. People getting stuck on everything. Seriously? It's just weird. I'm okay with people get stuck strafing, that's fine (although, bigger FOV would fix that issue), but getting stuck on some small step towards ladder GÇö just ridiculous.
2. Why did you bothered to include the KB/M if you're not going to let us use it anyway? I hope they will fix it, because putting limiters on mice doesn't work. It just frustrates people, they have to spend a lot of time finding perfect settings OUTSIDE the game.
I think the biggest problem now is the chaotic acceleration of the mouse. It's impossible to build muscle memory. Oh, and did anyone notice mouse going crazy when you're in CQC with someone? What's going on with that? Why is this happening?
3. On-boarding and matchmaking experience is terrible With this kind of progression curve (6 months to get proper fit) matchmaking would probably be somewhere on top my list, tbh. Otherwise Dust may never get the players it deserves.
4. Imbalance due to Beta characters I was actually suggesting mandatory drop of all passively gained SP. Again, this is not an easy decision to carry with lots of different aspects involved, but in case of boosters, I think they could simply leave booster gained SP to people and drop everything else to 0. This would be a fair advantage, I think, not like 20mil SP advantage. Currently endgame is broken, because no CEO in their healthy mind, will take anyone with less than 10mil SP to the PC. I mean, cmon, even in such a tightass game like EvE I was able to fly around in Merlin scrablin' **** out of people in corp gangs. Shotguns are my favorite weapon of choice in any game, I love CQC. But with these controls it's impossible to use it.
5. WTF with vehicles killing people instantly? Actually, I probably have an issue with people abusing this by driving around and just trying to hit people with buggies. There are some cool tactical moves, but usually people like 'OMG CAR I'M GONNA SMASH PEOPLE WITH BECAUSE IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO SHOOT ANYONE!". I vote GÇö not instant death by beach buggy. Slow and painful.
6. Why is everything so expensive? Yeah, it's probably gonna change at some point when more people will join later. More potential buyers will probably create a price drop. Just saying they could be earning a lot more with cheaper stuff on the market. I got into Walking Dead comics on my iPad and bought the entire collection issue by issue for $5 or something, realizing in the end of the month I've spent $180 total.
7. Who thought of making black dropsuits and green scopes? Actually it's more about suits than TAR. Suits are giving me hard time to understand balance of this game with one being pitch black, other yellow and white. One thing when it's a matter of skill to kill, completely other when you can't see ****. I say, let us colour our suits. Although, green scope is weird GÇö sniper rifles have perfectly normal scopes.
BTW, one thing I'm excited about is sniping. Man, I love sniping in this game, rifles are great, mechanics is great, levels give player a lot of opportunities and challenges: you have to move around the map to be able to take advantage of it. You have to look for good vantage point to support your team. It's quite balanced, I think. Apart form the fact you have to have KB/M to snipe, but that's fine by me.
Not being a console player, I once was confused with Dust being a PS3 exclusive, but now I think it's a genius move. I also had a beef with FOV being too small, but it actually makes sense considering all the facts: game mechanics, teamplay. |
