I get killed in about .5 seconds by this thing while running in my MLT Dropsuit. It seriously needs to be nerfed! I mean c'mon seriously there's no way it should be able to kill a merc in MLT gear that quickly!
On a serious note, If CCP were to implement some kind of better matchmaking system I think it would drastically cut down on all of the nerf threads.
My suggestion is an SP Tier based system where you play in matches at or above your Tier Bracket of SP:
SP tiers: 500k - 2mil, MLT and Standard Gear 2mil - 4 mil Standard Gear 4mil - 6 mil Standard and Advanced Gear 6 mil - 8 mil Advanced Gear 8 mil - 10 mil Advanced and Proto Gear 10 mil and up Proto Gear only.
I wouldn't mind if players could willingly join a higher tier, but restrict higher tier players from going back to lower tiers and pubstomping. This would place all players into more competitive matches.
As for squads:
If you are in a squad you must play in the tier corresponding to the highest SP ranking player in the squad. Otherwise you would not be able to join the battle.
This matchmaking system would only apply to instant battles. If you fight in PC or FW be prepared.

LOL you have been trolled!
I started the post that way to prove a point: a lot (probably the majority) of nerf threads stem from the fact that players with very low SP and low level gear may think a weapon is OP because they do not have core skills built up and are not equipped to defend against players with Proficiency lvl 5 using proto weapons; in turn the low level players come to the forums complaining that something is OP.
Meanwhile, a player who has their core skills built up and is running in better gear can give better feedback on gear comparable to their own level. |

Then fight in a higher bracket...or are you afraid you do not have the skill to take on players with a comparable amount of SP and comparable gear? |

Bones McGavins wrote:Yeah, skills and certain armor modules provide much more of an advantage than weapons. Weapon balance is something that is over-rated in these forums. Look at the difference in damage between militia and proto weapons, it isnt much. You dont gain THAT much from upgrading to a duvoulle at all.
Certain advantages are big though, upgrading the mass driver or forge to increase splash is huge, upgrading to the TAR or the Duvoule TAR for added range is huge. But the damage? Its relatively negliable. In a lot of cases it doesnt even change the time to kill at all.
Now, being able to increase tank, or speed, or reduce kick etc all actually make a much bigger impact then doing 5-10% more damage since most guns kill very quickly if your shots land.
Yes exactly! This is where the SP Tiers and Gear restrictions come into play.
If I have only 2 mil SP i do not have the same core skills or gear someone with 5 mil SP, placing me at a significant disadvantage.
If I have 5 mil SP I may have an advantage in core skills, but not gear. I could, however, compete with someone who also has 5 mil SP with an advantage in Gear, but not core skills.
If I have 5 mil SP I may have an advantage in either core skills, or Gear whereas a player with 10 mil SP likely has all core skills maxed out and using Proto gear putting me with only 5 mil SP at a significant disadvantage. |

Draco Cerberus wrote:I'm sorry that you feel that way. Why not try it out yourself? If it is so OP why are you not using it? The kick from it at base level skills to use it is still significant and the supporting skills that can be trained up to level 5 also give the weapon a good advantage over a standard assault rifle but if you play a few matches where everyone seems to be using scrambler rifles and hitting people at the same ranges of a TAC you will see it is by far not OP. It could also use a bit more range on it as the scope can pick people out at a good distance but often if you are trying to hit them the red dot will not show up until they are already hitting you. This is because there are now quite a few people using scrambler rifles the way they were using the TAR. It has a much higher ROF and can very quickly get the best of most TAR users from outside their range.

I would also suggest lowering the ammo per magazine, upping the reload time, an ADS delay on par with the HMG or sniper rifle, and applying a hard refire time to prevent exploitation.
I don't know why I bother making reasonable suggestions when I know full well they're just going to nerf the thing into the ground and make it completely useless. I'm starting to get weirded out by how reasonable most of the Imps are regarding this issue. It's because, although you are all trash players who should probably just delete dust from your PS3 before you chain it to your car and drag it through the street, we still want the illusion that the game is fun and competitive for everyone before we take everything you hold dear and ruin the experience for you.

Ok, I did. and you're sort of right but sort of wrong. The tac rifle is supposed to be a sniper/AR hybrid, not a high capacity pistol. It should have a unique place on the battle field that caters to a certain playstyle and you do that by keeping the thing that makes it great, Long range/high damage, and getting rid of everything else.
I would agree when it is used against players of a comparable SP and Gear level.
The problem I'm noticing is that when these higher tier weapons are used against lower tier players, the lower tier players feel like they are OP and need to be nerfed because they are not equipped with the core skills and the gear to defend against/counter the higher tier players. |

Knarf Black wrote:Maybe you shouldn't have used the most obviously OP weapon currently in the game as your example, then. I can OHK militia suits with my Flaylock, but there aren't a lot of 'ZOMG Flaylock is OP' threads because those deaths are a drop in the bucket by comparison. (It's not just that Tacs are OP; they are also crazy popular on the battlefield.)

Ignatius Crumwald wrote:Well, the higher gear players are noticing that the TAC AR is very effective in close quarters. More so than a fully tricked out HMG. I also do consider that part of its effectiveness is the fact that it isn't as effected by lag as the full auto weapons because you constantly nag the server with requests that it recognize your existence.
But the weapon is out of its element and is THE go to all around AR choice ATM. That's not where it belongs.
I do still get killed plenty by Duvolle Tac AR and the fully auto Duvolle AR |

It's not about what you are killed by, it's about the specific job a weapon is supposed to perform. why even have an AR when the TAC AR fills not only its own role but that role as well.[/quote]
Well stated. While I do agree that the Tac AR is somewhat OP in a couple of aspects, most weapons that are claimed as OP are simply not. This is what I am trying to draw attention to. I only used Glu Tac AR as the threads [original] title because it is the nerfer's flavor of the month atm. I have seen the error of my ways and changed the title of the thread. |

WP is not a good metric to use in and of itself because it is all to easy to manipulate your WP.

Ignatius Crumwald wrote:I just posted my idea for matchmaking HEREWP matchmaking will severely limit low level ques as time goes on and sort of punish those who play even after their bonus cap has been reached.
I read your post and these are good Ideas. I do wonder how this would effect squads comprised of players with different Meta level gear fittings (noobs in squad with vets).
It also seems that something like this would work better for FW/PC instead of simple Pub Ques. |

Did you even read the entire OP? I understand how you are trying to be cute and all...
This is a relatively serious issue that has the potential to drive A LOT of players from the game, or to reign them in, depending on how it is handled.
I think as CPM you should be concerned with the amount of new players who have been on the forums describing how unbalanced the matchmaking is in the game really is, thus driving them away from it. It is really difficult to stay with a game, when all you seem to do for the first 2 months is have your kitten handed to you match after brutal match against squads of Vets. Vets who do not know the struggle of the new player because they nearly all started playing at the beginning of the closed beta, thus having the luxury of competing against players with comparable SP and Gear.
Indeed you should be concerned enough to bring this and any other idea for a matchmaking system to the attention of CCP. |
