Hey guys. This is my review. I have been playing DUST 514 since I got my code from PS Home during 2012's E3. I have been covering the game since aroundthat time too, albeit the NDA kind of restricted what I could write about.
The review is, as all reviews are, just the the opinion of one person. It's not the be all end all of reviews for the game nor the absolute final verdict that all must accept. For this reason, no review should be taken in isolation but rather held against the spectrum of given reviews so that you can judge the general reception.
When I thought about how to approach this review, I thought about whether the score should be based on the state of the game as of Uprising, or whether it should be based on what makes DUST 514 stand out as the unique project that it is. I decided to go with the latter because I wanted to write a review that would remain relevant and informative for sometime to come after the problems now are resolved.
The foundational aspects of what makes DUST stand out from the crowd are aspects that have been there from the start or have been incorporated along the way; the persistence, skill training, dropsuit fitting flexibility, economic aspects, the EVE link etc etc. These things aren't fleeting, they are what makes the game that most here love.
Bugs and issues are fleeting, and they are also part and parcel of an MMO in development. I'm sure that most of you aren't under the impression that the problems we have now will be the last...There will be on going balance issues, technical issues etc as CCP continues to enhance and grow the gameplay mechanics that we have now. Does that mean that writers should continually sheet all over the game when they review it? We have mechs and fighter jets coming somewhere down the line, and there is electronic warfare and new game modes that will probably come with their own issues and problems...and CCP will read the community here..and work on fixes.
At the end of the day, I tried to show our readers the reason why all of us are here, why we stay here despite all that has happened, is happening, and will happen. Seriously...if it was the number I gave to the game that swayed a reader to go download the game...I probably failed the review.
In any case, don't worry, those of you that are hungry for slamming reviews will get them, most likely from people who haven't played the game for close to a year, who haven't talked countless hours about it with friends and haven't watched it grow from a rough as hell E3 build to the beautiful, if not troubled Uprising.
If anyone feels that getting DUST 514 after reading my review was a mistake, they are mor

This is the last time I'm going to bother replying to someone of your maturity. I really have much more productive things to do with my time.
Do you know why PC is 16vs16? Cause CCP looked at the the size of the average corp in DUST so that as many could take part as possible. CCP has been doing tests with 128 players and more IIRC but if the mentality is to keep match sizes as big as the average corp, then it's clear that we need to get more mercs into New Eden.
A big part of the reason why I haven't been in the forums for the last year is that I have been working over at PSU to bring gamers into New Eden because I want DUST 514 to be successful. It is pretty much the only game I care about anymore. All other 8-12 hour games have lost all appeal to me, they are, bar a few, boring and gossamer like; nothing beats the persistence of the EVE Universe in my eyes. I'm pretty sure a lot of you here may be able to relate.
So when I'm not at work, I have endeavoured to cast a DUST net into the stream of PlayStation gamers who come through our site. The net is made of carefully crafted artricles that sought to break down and explain the somewhat complex nature of our game and to explain cool features so that more people could understand what it is we are part of instead of passing it by as some obscure niche title.
From the very beginning I have only worked to educate as many people as I personally can so that we can one day have those epic space wars with thousands of players.
If you would rather that current user count stays at 8,000 then by all means write your own review. Say how broken and unbalanced the game is. Focus on all the negatives so we can all enjoy 10 years of 16vs16 gamemodes. :) Cool? You do your thing here, and I'll do my thing at PSU and If anyone has a problem with me, or my corp, for what we stand for and what we are trying to do then that's on them. I don't really care and I REALLY don't care for the QQers, the trolls and the egotystical drama queen attention seekers that crawl around here.
Big shout out to all the cool people here, there are a ton amongst the rabble. o/ |
