Wasn't exactly sure how to word the title as I'm not positive what they're really called, but would you like to have the option to tone down certain aspects of the graphics in order to increase performance?
Like a slider for shadows, smoke, particle effects, weather, texture detail with the ranges Low - Medium - High for example.
I prefer performance over graphics, if I had to choose between a smooth, high framerate experience and a eye-popping visually awesome, but incredibly slow and choppy one, I would choose the high framerate option every single time.
There are already people playing it in 480p/576p so that it plays acceptably smooth, would you like to have these options to find a balance between graphics and smoothness that works for you? |

I'd play dust without textures if it was possible.
The game looks horrible regardless, so you could just go all the way for performance. |

I'd rather have them optimize some more. Don't want to get killed because some bush obstructed my vision but was not rendered on his side |

Lots of FPSs on the PS3 have great quality graphics and good frame rates. No reason why CCP can't fix their broken frame rates and stop their game from melting my PS3.
Also i like the console because everyone is equal...when you get into graphics quality you turn off sight obscuring features and raise brightness to see into dark places etc. I prefer equal game play that consoles provide which one cannot find on PCs.
So i vote no slider. |

Even if they don't add a slider, my gameplay has just improved a hell of a lot. I have gun game now.
Why? No more frame stutter and I can actually shoot my enemies. Thanks for the mention of playing in 480p. Yeah, I can't look too far and nameplates block my view (unlike the dynamic nameplates in 720p), and textures look like crap....
But I can ACTUALLY PLAY NOW! |

Yeah, I'd like the option to trade pretty graphics for better gameplay. |

Not when this is a PS3 exclusive title. It should be designed to run at full performance, in full detail. |

No. Not happening on a console. Those who go full performance get significant advantage over everyone else. Idea = silly.

I understand they want the pretty graphics for marketing reasons (screenshots and all that)... but... Yeah, I'd like the option to trade pretty graphics for better gameplay. It's not a PC so things don't work that way. The reason why there are sliders on PCs and not on consoles is because the power, graphical capabilities, etc. of PCs varies greatly. There is no standard for graphics and power. The reason why there are no sliders on PS3 games, or any other games on console is that everyone's console is pretty much the same hardware. There is one specific standard for graphics and power.
The key word here is "optimization."
Optimization is a process where debugging and other various adjustments help make the game run as smoothly as possible with the given graphics settings.
Because PS3s and Xbox 360s have standard graphical capabilities, it is understood that for every game there is an optimal balance between graphics and performance. Optimization seeks to achieve this perfect balance. And again, because these consoles have standard hardware, there is only one point of balance.
So why again do we not have the choice? Because it is the responsibility and obligation of the developer to aim for this perfect balance of graphics and gameplay. Remember, we've all got the same PS3 in terms of computing power and graphics, so a perfect setting exists. It takes a while, but CCP will find that perfect setting. Unfortunately, as they add more this setting changes, so it's a constant process!
So far they've proven themselves to be pretty awesome at optimization so I'm not worried about it. Did you notice that Uprising both looks better and runs faster than Chromosome?
Kudos to CCP for that. |

"No it's one size fits all on console I'm afraid" Not necessarily true. The PS3 has several SKU's now and even though each is backwards compatible on a software level, the hardware is not. From reports I gathered, the original, and the best PS3, the FAT 60GB, can't actually play Dust 514. It will load it, and then rapidly fail. It's not Dust 514's or CPP's fault. The different models have different package (.pkg) encryption now. So without that and other stuff too. The FAT just can't keep up with the crypto.
I wouldn't like all the image options mentioned above so far, such as graphic settings tweaking. But what I would like, if any Dev's are reading (Already spoke to one twice today, so I won't push it.) is a colour blind assist mode. I'm sure that would help. |
