It's adorable watching people theory craft about dropships, when dropship pilots know the actual business
It's also adorable how one single proto forge gun in the center of any map is enough to shut down ALL drophip play for the entire match.
Guess who's rolling forge gun with their optional respec?

My DS has 1800 shields and 2600 armor with a shield repper, an armor rep, and 2 22% damage resists (CURSE YOU NEW PRICE!!!). I also have 6% resist on shields and 10% on armor from skills.
It still only takes 2-3 shots from a strong FG to take me down, and that usually happens in the span of a few seconds, long before I can realign the ship from being hit, activate modules, drop altitude and weave and bob, while the FG guy is just loling the day away.
Honestly, no forge gun should let you hold the charge, they should all be like the assault. Holding the shot makes the weapon laughably simple to use, and why many forge gunners and vehicle pilots alike regard the Assault variant as being the most skilled FG.
Also keep in mind this is only a single forge. I don't know about the blueberries here, but I play 16v16 organized squad matches, and you get full squads of AV coming after you.
If you're a dropship pilot, I'm telling you right now, this is your LAST warning.

These posts amuse me the most because it shows those players have literally no experience with vehicles. The difference in fitting cost between basic and prototype is negligible at best, the ONLY reason you should be fitting weaker turrets is to save on ISK, which is still a meh move at best. |

I completely believe that giving forge guns "infinite" range with falloff is the answer, so long as their optimal range is tweaked back correctly. That way if you're dicking around too close, you get punished by a lucky or smart forge gunner, where as altitude and distance in general helps you against solo hunters, while still giving them the chance to send your ship rocking into a building.
My corp needs boots on the ground to fight though, I can't sit around losing us millions and millions of isk for months and months while CCP slowly tweaks the dials. |

1 - 2 shots from a tank and you're a fireball. Giant floating target. If they were physically smaller, they'd be harder to hit. Right now they're larger then a tank.
Free rail gun installations are the most rage inducing thing is a pilot. Best AV weapon in the game, deep in the enemies redline, easily operated with deadly efficiency.
As if rails on tanks weren't bad enough |
