I can't help but think that a heavy with a shotgun might work in defending small enclosed areas, you do too much damag with too much health to try and face down and you can easily force players into close range confrontations if they want to get a shot at you. Then again there isn't much indoor combat.
Edit: Just to be clear here, I use neither a shotgun nor a heavy suit, this is pure theorycrafting (though I did use a shotgun way back in closed beta) |

If played smart, i think a heavy with a shotgun would work well in that kind of situation. Allthough i doubt it's better than just using the big machine gun, since those not only do about as much damage at close range, they can also hurt at mid range and carry more ammo. |

Zero Harpuia wrote: -HMG- Do Not Engage. If the Heavy is being harassed by your team, you can help finish him off, but on your own it takes the worst of the worst heavies to lose to you, as even standard HP ones take three full meatshots to die. -Mass Driver- Stay close and be ready to change directions on a dime. DO NOT JUMP unless you want him to get a free shot as he'll know exactly where you'll land. -Other Shotgunner- Rapidly swap from left and right just as he's about to fire. Most shotgunners fire as fast as they can, so use that simple timing. -Scrambler Rifle- Sway a decent amount, the semi-auto and extreme precision of the weapon will make it nigh impossible for someone to hit you once you've gotten closer than 15 meters. -TAR- Game over, this gun will wreck you. -SMG- Just like the TAR, this gun will utterly wreck you, but only if you're 15-10 meters off. Further and it's too inaccurate, closer and the victim over-corrects. Unless he has a mouse, then you're boned. -Scrambler Pistol- Treat this like a Scrambler Rifle, but you can sprint in close when you see him go for the rather-often reloads. -Flaylock Pistol- Total crapshoot. Your survival depends on how good your opponent is at aiming this little behemoth.
great thread, OP.
here's my humble thoughts: - HMG - dude, DO engage, but be smart about it. i've been jumping HMGs for a long time and they are my favourite target. [unless combination of six kin and a mouse, then be really really smart about it], - MDs and flaylock in good hands can be really annoying and most of the time deadly [hate hate hate], - SMGs and Pistols - same as above but less annoying, also highly depends on a skill of a target, - Tar - lol, not anymore, right? i mean at least you have some chances if not engaging from afar, - Scrambler rifle - this is either crap and no threat at all or instant death, FINALLY other Shotgunners - most fun of all, totally agree timing is essential, wait him up and then drunken fist style wreck him!
also be aware of your surroundings, flank flank flank, and know who you are [especially if scout] and how much can you take. if you missed a few times don't try to be too greedy and disengage, this will pay out in the end [this said always have a way out planned ahead, in case of HIT DETECTION problems, lag, server instabillity and your bullets disappearing which happens A LOT]. |
