Kilta Rosina wrote:Hello
I joined Dust on its launch day. I'm pretty new here and still unsure what I'm doing. I have never felt so new and lost in an MMO for YEARS.
A lil about myself, I'm a 28 year old female with a vast mmo/gaming history. I played 30 mmorpg (not including eve)
I do have a history in playing fps having played Halo (which Dust reminds me of). Now I'll like to state I'm enjoying myself. I typically suck in fps but I still have fun, and would like to improve.
Second this is just a test character as I'm unsure what to do.
Can someone care to give tips on what to do?
Like how skills work
The best way to set skill like do I go 5/5 then move on? or do I put point or to in everything I would and slowly go 5/5
How gear works and mods work in this game to better my survivability.
And general fps tips to simply do better.
I'm completely out of my element. I did read the newbie guide but still unsure of things
I also have a question too the eve players mostly, do you feel that people see dust as a stand alone from eve?
Do you think people misunderstand that eve and dust are connected?
I saw a fight last night where two people actually called an eve player elitist when he was trying to help others. Making a note that we dust players are in fact playing eve just in a different way. They scoffed at him acting like Dust and Eve are not interconnected.
also is it wise to alienate the EVE players with the "COD" mindset as he put it?
I only seek to be decent at Dust, have fun and be a decent person on the community.
Ninja edit, I also notice that if I use this site on the ps3, I can't log in. It stated there is a 404 error. I mainly use my ps3 as I need to borrow a laptop, is there a fix for this soon? or a way to access this via the ps3? I had very little issues using most forums on my ps3.
Hello Kilta,
There is certainly a lot going on in Dust, and quite a lot to learn and understand to really excel in Dust. Thankfully at the core it's still a shooter so putting bullets into your opponant still kills them :P
I'll attempt to answer some of your questions but in the end the best thing I would suggest is to join up with a Player-run Corperation. There are lots of corps out there who are very much willing to train new players and help them out. 2 such examples are Dust University and Bojo's School of the Trades. There are even more corps much like the one I am in where we do train new players but we also have parts of the corp which focus on higher level play such as Planetary Conquest.
Joining a corp often will help you learn more about the game, aswell as have a group of people to sqaud up with and co-ordinate with. Teamwork is the essance of Dust, and without it most end up seeing the death screen more often then they would like.
Onto the questions:
Skills are aquired by spending the amount of skill points to get that level of skill. Now this is not the same amount for each level, as lvl 2 is much more expencive then lvl 1, and so on. So thinking about and knowing how far you really need in each skill is very important for character planning. There is no SP limit in Dust, but the main reason for planning is to help save your time. Skilling in Dust takes a long time with the weekly caps and passive SP rate so specializing is recommended in that aspect.
As for what skills do, they are used in mainly 2 ways. Skills which help you unlock more weapons/gear/dropsuits/etc. and skills which improve these items passively. What skills are useful for whom is based on what that player wishes to do. There is no best role or path as many roles are good in some scenarios and weaker in others.
As for knowing what you want to do, I would recommend looking at the Militia Gear section of the Market. The items here are not nearly as effective as using properly skilled gear but these items have no skill requirements so they allow you to test it out. By testing out a wide range of equipment, you will beable to experiment and figure out what works for you.
As for the New Eden connection, Dust and EVE are mostly connected through Faction Warfare and Planetary Conquest modes. These modes are designed for more organized groups and thus as a new player, you may not see the connection right away. This connection is being built upon as Dust is a game that will continuously be improved upon. An example of this connection is how EVE players can provide more powerful orbital strikes that Dust merc call upon.
As for the bickering, local chat is a very public form of chat. And since people online have a habit of being very immature when they know lots of people will see what they have to say, that usually explains why local chat is less the civil. I would just ignore them.
If you have more questions, feel free to send me a mail in game. You can find it in the social section of your NEOCOM. I'd be glad to help :)
Hope this helps. |

Just wanted to say Thanks for the help.
I still couldn't find away to log on here on my ps3 :(
I'm looking to join a corp now. I do have a mic but can't talk at night due to me and my brother have rooms across from each other. I do follow directions well as long as you say it simple. I listen better if people aren't screaming. (i got sensitive hearing)
Hi Darkfae/Kilta,
I would suggest you take a look at the corporation recruitment section of the forums. There are many great corps out there so give them a read and see who would be best for you.
Some corps I'd recommend looking at are Dust University and Bojo's School of the Trades. But there are also many other great corps out there.
I myself am with the Sand Mercenary Corps Inc. if you are interested. We have a posting in that forum too.
But yea, this part of the forums would not be recommended to search for a Corp :)
Happy Corp hunting ^,^ |
