Just played SI... it was to laggy to shoot anyone. Their players moved by teleportation. PC is pointless. 10 FPS or less the entire game. |

Rough is an understatement. If planetary conquest stays like this then the victor will always go to the team with the servers in the home country. We played at 5-10 FPS with the enemy teleporting around and gun movements happening in chunks (aim slightly left nothing will happen then suddenly your looking 45 degrees to the left.) |

Or have everyone connect to a mobile server boat in the ocean. Prior to the match, it will get 24+ hours to move into a more neutral location to the majority of players in each corp. Thus everyone will have even playing. CCP just needs to find boats now... |

regardless this is a serious issue that has been around long before PC. going back several months whenever squads from different regions are in the same match you notice lots of funny things. I don't blame any individual player, or even group, as it is obviously a server issue that needs to be fixed... if even possible
and if NOT possible then the whole system needs to be reworked because gaming in the conditions mentioned is gonna drive people away way faster than hammering out kinks in the game... |

If you have had lag, then opposing team must got it too, no?
Nevertheless, with aiming like this, lag is suddenly lesser problem. |

yea its really unfortunate as it really creates a barrier between organized teams from different regions. And its hard to characterize 1 group or another due to the fact that the game stability doesn't allow for smooth framerate to let teamwork and skill be the deciding factor in a match...

Usually one side will get the majority of the lag, the team that gets the home server experiences minimal lag (other than what is normally present in pub matches). |

Yea, I remember lol. I don't mean for the post to marginalize SI or the victory. You know I have a lot of respect for you, and SI. This post is to highlight a problem that could make planetary conquest irrelavent.
Maybe if CCP doesn't fix this we as a player base should just get together and draw lines in the New Eden sand and have EU players take one side of the galaxy and US on another and agree to just not engage in cross continental warfare lol. Also just played a Eu Corp. I'm in PST. There was a lot of latency. I even went into a regional specific pub match afterwards just to make sure my gun still worked. (it did) . I have noticed this also when our Squad lead is a euro bro in pub matches. There is no way to really avoid it. The Internet has lag. Even more so when you have to go across oceans.
I understand the One Universe/One War thing. and i think in a game like eve its not really an issue. In a game where the TTK is so quick even being a half second behind is a huge disadvantage.
In FPS games that are P2P the host usally has 0 latency so they implement some sort of magic netcode that slows them down. I would hate to see that in Dust because it never works.
The only thing I can think of is making sure your corp is from the same region and hope the battle server gods like you. From what I understand, the battle server is chosen based on where the majority of the players are located based on there connection.
Could the districts reinforcement timer have some kind of influence on where the battle server is? a district within US primetime could be more likely to choose a US server. Home court advantage or something. |

The problem is one side shouldn't have such a huge latency advantage. If CCP cannot find a way to stabilize latency when teams from across the pond play each other then they have some very serious decisions to make.
I am here because I enjoy competitive play that means something, large unfair latency advantages marginalizes victory and the what it means to hold a planet. To be frank PC is pointless unless the servers and gameblay is stable and consistent. |

Most games just separate there player base by region, That would not be very dust like at all. Im not sure that CCP will be able to fix the internet.
At least if we knew what the latency was going to be before attacking a district. there would be a choice. Until that happens more spies will be needed to find out where target corps player base is. Some corps wont attack across the pond, others that do could be at a disadvantage. This will just restrict the action even more.
We all saw this coming. It just might be something we have to deal with. I might switch my server settings just to get used to it.

I bet there are ways of manipulating where the host is. We should figure out how and then complain until they fix it. |

Their is no getting used to 10 frames per second. Its not something you can train to play in because at that point every action in the game is random. moving forward can send you 10 meters forward then teleport you 20 meters back.
If the meta game becomes determining which region an attacking corp is from then having to find and field players from the alliance who live in the same region just so the game will be playable I promise the player count will begin to drop

If this is fix then for example If a war broke out between the primarily EU Chronos alliance, and the primarily US EoN alliance then attacking would become obsolete. Each side wouldn't attack each other because it would be a waste of clones. |

Which would be preferable to playing in half time. We just need *A* solution to this. If every match against EU is going to be a 50/50 shot of having barely playable lag, PC is done. The playing field isn't going to be level for one of the teams, and that is no fun at all. PC is the only interesting idea the game has and it is pretty broken. |

Corp battles have always been laggier than pub matches. At least in the closed beta tournament matches, since those were also 16 vs 16. So I'm not really sure why people expected it to be better now. |

Personally, I think CCP likes its PC idea as much as I do. It is clearly the only thing that this game really has for long term playability. I kinda thought that they might want to make it fun? So that they keep a player base? |

All guaranteeing the home team has the local server advantage does is let everyone know who is going to get terrible lag during the match. I wouldn't consider it a solution at all. If they consider that a solution they would be better of splitting the community up by region, which due to the planned interation with EvE is really not an option for them as all of EvE exists on one server.
It's either find a way to allow all the regions to interact with each other without terrible latency on either side, or slowly watch the game die. In all honest the only solution I can see is the community getting together and dividing up planetary conquest regions by server zones and segregate ourselves. It's a horrible solution, but the only way I can see PC being stable in any way. |

Unfortunately I wasn't able to participate in that tourney, unfortunately the leadership of the corp I was in at the time decided not to particpate due to the exodus of most of the "A" team. The 8 v 8 battles i've played in where for the most part stable, however I never played any corps from across the pond. |

The 8 vs 8s have been ok from what I can tell, but the 16 vs 16s back in the day were a nightmare. The current PC battles might be a little better from what I can tell, but they're still lagging too much.
I think we asked about it after the closed beta tournament and from what I remember they said that there shouldn't be any difference on pub vs corp matches. Well, obviously there is, since the corp battles lag more. |

I guess I left that one out. I don't think CCP is capable of making *that* game. The interaction with EvE is the reason I think self-selecting to divide the regions would be the only workable solution. Random BAD lag isn't fun and will never be. I don't think these guys are capable of coding away the lag.
Also would like to note that SI played a good match and was tactically the better team for much of the later half. |

Im going to go out and say "One Universe/One War" is more important to CCP than true competitive game play. So they will probably not split the player base. All I'm asking for Is a way of knowing what the connection will be like before the attack is made. They added ping indicators for somethings right? districts could have a Static Server assigned to them? Fog of war kind of thing.
Lag in FPS games is like a contagious disease, Once that thought is in players minds it becomes the excuse for everything. Every death will be because you were lagging more than the other person. Not because your tactics or gun play were poor. Then its just frustrating.
CCP you can sleep in my garage if you need a place to stay on the west coast for testing latency. |
