I created my character about a week or so after the open beta went live and at the time, race was purely cosmetic, i selected Gallente because of their backstory, and with the new update, your race determines what your starter dropsuits are. This irritates me because i regularly use the dropsuits when playing ambush with friends, usually just replacing some modules and the gun but keeping the dropsuit for the convenience, and i absolutely despise the Gallente suit. I'd much rather use the Calderi or Minmatar suit. Will there ever be some way to change our characters to what we want them to be? Because i really dont want to lose my something-million skill points by creating an entirely new character. |

Yeah but I love the Amarr aesthetic and decided to go all out Amarr before this build even came out.....and the only thing that isnt Amarri on my character is his bloodline....
I mean I wrote a really badass backstory for him and my EVE pilot that reflects this.....

Why not. It's unfair to some of us that were either under the assumption that it was purely cosmetic or didnt know about the races backstory at the time. I mean, i understand if they wont let you change it just whenever, but maybe when it finally goes live? ( i assume it hasn't already, i havn't kept up with the news :I ) |

I don't mind the avatars, in fact i quite like the look of Gallente suits, but i just don't like their usability in combat. Caldari feels more open during combat whereas i feel Gallente are mainly scouts and snipers, which isn't my playstyle at all. |

They've never ever allowed it in EVE. I don't see this being any different. Also in the grand scheme of things it IS purely cosmetic. It don't really mean anything. At all.

If it's just the starter fits that annoy you then I'm not sure why its a big issue. Gallente starter suits get 2 armor repairers built in, making them the best in my opinion. And you can always spec into a different race's suit and favorite it so you don't have to walk around your living space as Gallente if you don't want to.
Now what I'm really annoyed with is why everyone else's avatar seemed to be fixed but I'm still stuck with Caldari despite picking Gallente as my race. Plus it's Caldari, worst avatar for a Gallentean. |

Look at the different faction's suits. Gallente suits have 3 low powered modules, Caldari have 2 high and 1 low, Minmatar have 3 high modules. Not sure what Amarr have. It is to my knowledge that what you choose as a race determines what starter fit suit you get. So no, it isn't cosmetic. |

I much prefer to have shields over armor. And i dumped almost all my skill points into Minmatar logistics to wear my Sever logistics suit without realising what i had done. So even though i have the Aurum to buy that Caldari Assault suit blueprint, i can't use it if i had it. |

It's fine. It's my most used suit. Just with the injector being broken right now, i can't be the combat medic i'd like to, which is why i'm using starter fit suits to begin with, i dont have the SP to get a decent assault suit. |

I know how you feel. But you can just save the current character you have without deleting him and start a new character. That way you can switch back and forth when a certain situation pops up. I know it's a big commitment to start over from scratch, but you should be comfortable with who you want to be and what you want to do rather than being miserable in something you're not comfortable in. Plus, no one knows how many SP you have anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm a deep role-player, so characters and names are important to me and I WOULD start over with a new character purely for cosmetic purposes. I have a 2nd character that's an Intaki ready and waiting. I'm a Gallente right now, but I'm starting to be very attracted to Intaki people because of their beautiful background and lore. So I will use both characters. |

I have the name i want, and i'm happy with the backstory i've chosen, the issue i have is simply with the starter suit i'm stuck with. I'd much rather have one character to focus my attention on than two. I don't feel Dust really has much of a backstory to it on it's own unless you've studied up or played Eve online. I'm usually really into the story and all i understand from dust is that everyone is basically a clone with the original individuals consciousness. |

I tend to be in the top 3 using a gek and the starter suit. Most standard suits are the same unless you take the time to invest into prototype suits or have the aurum to spend. |

Maybe you can spend some SP into the Caldari or Minmatar dropsuit skills and use those dropsuits instead. You don't have to advance those dropsuits too high, just use the low-tier ones until they bring in more new dropsuits for the Gallente in a future update/expansion. |

Because i really dont want to lose my something-million skill points by creating an entirely new character. Maybe you can spend some SP into the Caldari or Minmatar dropsuit skills and use those dropsuits instead. You don't have to advance those dropsuits too high, just use the low-tier ones until they bring in more new dropsuits for the Gallente in a future update/expansion.
Probably just going to use the Caldari medium frame once i get my assault skill leveled and get get Geks |

My main playing character is Gallente, but I like Amarr medium frames so I just use militia Amarr medium frames. Militia suits are very cheap, so just use them. You could just delete and make a new character, since your character is new you won't loose much. |
