Let's be clear, last build we had random vanishing and disappearing equipment and so things like drop uplinks and nanohives were often invisible.
THIS HURT GAMEPLAY. BAD.
This is fixed now--equipment is now static on the battlefield. What no one should like now is the blanket Uplink Detector Module that we now have fitted in every suit, apparently. Its so bad I can see where the enemy has placed them from the Tac Map.
This is too much intel, let's reward the people smart enough to place uplinks discreetly and make an advance staging area for their team. If I see it with my own eyes? FINE. Hell, make it a job for the Active Scanner, but please, please, please don't give every Tom, **** and Harry the real-time location of every Uplink on the map for free.
Thanks CCP. |

sometimes dropuplinks will move. esp if you place them on high buildings.
i totally agree that it shouldnt be so easy to spot uplinks on the map. |

I'm a full time ADS pilot and frequently see them on the minimap while flying overhead. I then stop, turn around, and missile them. I honestly don't think it's fair that I can do that. Maybe if I had a scanning module, but I don't. |

I already posted this in the bug section but obviously no one cared.
drop uplinks are currently visible accross the map through map overview or minimap or by the icon on your first person view up close. if you place one chances are good that a sniper destroys it a few seconds later. |

+1. Agreed, Jack, Kushmir. Uplinks have become trivial to spot. I'm thinking of them as a cyno now, tbh.
Fine for tactical use with coordinated squads. But hell on the blueberries.
In instant battle matches i usually make a point of staying out of squads so the blueberries have some uplinks and support. Have to give up on orbitals but I'm hoping that if peeps use uplinks enough they'll learn to put them down themselves.
With this new easy-to-spot behaviour that uplinks are displaying putting down uplinks for blueberries is almost pointless.
Part of what we're seeing might be due to the active scanners too. They do a great job of detecting uplinks, and any savvy squad defending a point is prolly using them. So did the signature of uplinks change somehow, or is it the active scanners? |

Yeah, well, you generally get a warning when someone uses a scanner, too. I've seen the message pop up. "You have been scanned." I've been on maps where I can see all the uplinks and the enemy can see all out uplinks and nary a warning is had. You can literally see them as soon as they are in range of your minimap, scan radius be damned. I could hide an uplink in a box of dead uplinks and the enemy would know exactly which uplink was working... Doesn't matter where you drop on uplink, people will know it's there, and will likely try and do something about it. |

I'm fine with them being discovered through active scanners, but something like being able to spot an uplink that is on top the building you are currently underneath makes NO sense. The proper use of uplinks allows a team to have a fluid strategy, forcing the other team to react from a force that could be coming from anywhere. When trying to set-up a proper flanking attack, nothing is more annoying than having to plant a giant "I'M OVER HERE" sign in the ground prior to the attack.
At the very least, discovery should be line of sight only, unless the scanner is used.
This is a huge problem in the new Domination game mode, as maneuvering your team around the null cannon is key to victory. Having to haul 500m to before you can even consider getting into the fight is frustrating, especially when CRUs are destroyed so easily by turrets and tanks. Being unable to utilize a tactical insertion takes the strategy out of this game and turns it into a "run and gun shooter".
Emphasis on the run.

I spent the majority of the matches I played yesterday tracking down and killing links. It doesn't matter how good the spot is, if the enemy can see it the players will get spawn camped. Previously it was visible only after you or one of your squad members had discovered it.
An uplink is meant to be a way to call for reinforcements, it shouldn't be a big neon sign saying "Here we are come get us!" . I would like a covert uplink for my team with higher level skills. As it is this way right now the best way to hide an uplink is to stand on it. Meat barricades also stop the damage to the uplink but don't help attrition rates.
Thank you CCP for making items static on the map and giving us a real mini map that displays fairly accurately where things are. |

I think one of the reasons they're currently so easy to spot is that an entire team can spawn at one, forever.
If you have a good team, they can defend a droplink location and use it as a central point to push forward. I'd love to see a more stealthy version of one, but only if it has some sort of limit placed on it: Say the number of people that could ever spawn there before depleting. |

I hate how I could place the most discreet uplink possible but everyone in a 5 mile radius can see it I don't mind if some just happens along and sees it or if they upgraded their radar skillz and added radar modules and finds it. But the second EVERYONE can find my uplinks like it was an Easter egg hunt then I have a problem.
edit: also I would like to propose that uplinks can be squad only again with the choice of everyone can spawn on it. It upsets me that my uplinks can go like nobody's business because blueberry's (not their fault they don't know) spawn on my expertly placed uplink. |

This is a big issue. Drop uplinks are pretty much useless now that there is no hiding them.
Considering they used to be a work around for the horrible spawn system in ambush that creates a big problem for the game. |

Agreed.
(copied from bug section thread)
I've had several cases, one example was that I 1) set a link behind compound large wall 2) a red heavy (spotted by blues) is on a field 50-70m away, facing away from the link 3) red heavy turned around, walked to the exit of the wall in order to get out and then determinately walked straight to the hideout where the link was and shot it
A heavy with lowest scan range and precicion, had eyes in his back thru walls and containers TURNED AROUND and started going round straight for link...
I find it unlikely that this is working as intended. The art of uplink placement is gone.
Both scenarios are very annoying: - uplinks never found even though you know they are there and you are searching for them - uplinks lit up like Tannhauser Gate and visible for anyone in the radius of 100m
SUGGESTION: Make links as they were BUT enable active scanners to find them! That would be cool and reward scanner usage.

One uplink in an area does the same job as five. The only difference is how many people can spawn in that area before the uplinks break. |

I do think that they are too easy to detect but let's not make them undetectable at all. I think that if you are within a certain specified meter range, then your suit should pick them up on radar.
Maybe if each droplink has a specific scan profile, so your suit should have a certain scan radius and precision in order to pick them up on radar. The more advanced drop uplinks should have a lower scan profile so that will force guys to spec into it for real good ones.
