Hybrid weapons are blasters and rails (aka Plasma cannons, shotguns, sniper rifle).
Laser weapons would be any (and probably all) of the Amarr weapons, which right now are the Laser Rifle and Scrambler Rifle (since the Scrambler pistol doesn't overheat.)
This is common knowledge in EVE, but I can understand how those who haven't played would be left somewhat in the dark.
Fun Fact: Hybrid weapons are called that because the ammo they use can either have the plasma suspended in the round run though a cyclotron and then spat out (like the Plasma Cannon, AR, and Shotgun), or the whole round (plasma + container) can be fired from a rail gun (which is what all the rail weapons fire, plasma suspended in a container, allowing the kinetic damage from the hypersonic container to do damage as well as the release of plasma upon impact.) |

KING CHECKMATE wrote:Well a LOT of people that play DUST 514 have NEVER played EVE I was just giving my theory of why it may have fallen through the cracks on CCP's to-do list. They've been dealing with it so long it's just second nature.
The easiest way to figure it out is by who makes it. The Caldari prefer missiles and rails, the Gallente prefer blasters (and drones), the Minmatar are very behind the curve of everyone else and thus still use gunpowder weapons ("projectiles"), and the Amarr are very laser heavy (though also dabble in some drones [and an offshoot kingdom likes missiles]).
Viziam, Carthum = Amarr Ishukone, Wyrkomi, Kaalakkiota = Caldari Duvolle, Allotek, Creodron = Gallente Boundless Creation, Freedom Mass Storage (Or just "Freedom" in DUST) = Minmatar |

If anything, it's almost as if the Amarr bonuses are expressely for the Scrambler Rifle. You can fire 80% of a Laser Rifle's battery (aka magazine) before it'll overheat on you, and that's if you're firing it nonstop. The SR? You get maybe 6 shots in quick succession before it overheats and vents it all into your face for 50 points of damage. It'll be the weapon to benefit the most from the heat reduction skills, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that the bonuses apply.
But I certainly understand your caution. SP isn't something you can make 150k of for a single game, unlike ISK. |

I mean the AR and SR are lumped together and it looks like more variants are on the table on there. The Swarm launcher and Plasma Cannon I'm guessing is lumped together as well and likely seeing more. I'm just confused because I've only ever heard the groupings to be determined by role/need. The AR and SR both serve as medium range anti infantry weapons. The Swarm and Plasma Cannon both serve as anti vehicle weapons. The Scrambler Pistol and Flintlock both server as short range reserve Anti Infantry (not sure if the SMG is lumped in with these but from the above table they are not, so I imagine it is approach that changes here). Granted I'm not read up on lore. But I assumed each race developed these items for military use for their own armies. So I have this image in my head of Caldari seeing that they need heavy frame units on field and develop their own. Then they need to equip these guys and say "Hey forge gun works just as well on infantry and vehicles"? Or did they say "Hey Minmatar we'll handle AV if you guys handle anti infantry and we'll trade"? Are the HMG and Forge gun considered to fill the same niche in terms of combat or is the heavy weapon class itself supposed to be the niche? Because even sidearm looks to be getting more variation.
Yeah, it seems by CCP Remnant's comment that there will only be 4 heavy weapons in the game, one from each race. Though this was said about a Flak Cannon, which in the original proposal was a heavy weapon. Perhaps if they do something along those lines and if there will be only 4 heavy weapons, then it'll be a light AV weapon.
I was hoping for some more variation as well, but maybe, just maybe CCP Remnant just means that they want to have 1 racial heavy weapon variant for when they roll out the new racial heavies. Then maybe more heavy weapons to come after that. |
