Okay people I am having one of my little moans at CCP and DUST players in general.
If any of you have played EVE Online for an extended period (1 year +), and was asked by someone, "What the best race in the game was?" You would defend your chosen Race with a fight to the death with rusty spoons. What I am saying is that in EVE a great sense of belonging and Xenophobia is instilled into you as soon as you start the game.
Are you an Amarrian Zealot? Ready to wage bloody war against the heretics of New Eden?
Are you a Minmatar dissident? Looking for the opportune moment to strike back at your old slave masters?
Are you a Gallente stanch defender of freedom and civil liberties?
Are you a Caldari patriot? Working and Fighting for the greater good of the people?
Or are you a Yeoman (a free person)? Unbound from the politics of the Empires?
This is the thing which make New Eden and fun place to be in. CCP did a very good job of creating the lore and Racial dynamics to allow people to pick a side, and as I said before defend it with all there fervour. Unfortunately CCP has managed to take this Core game mechanic and shyte all over it in DUST. Luckily they are starting to rectify this problem to much distress of the bland shooter (Any random shooter, not pointing any bones) loving fanboys, and much mirth for me listening to their whining.
In EVE the race you choose would dictate the play style and what ships you had access to at the start. If you wanted to you could spec into another races ships, but it would take time away from making your character access your own races specialised ships. In DUST I can see that they are trying to get some level of commitment towards a race, but they give you such a small bonus to do it, it doesn't seem worth it. I suppose we will need to wait and see what the other suit specialisation would be and what the bonuses will be.
It would be nice to see better racial bonuses being added and replacing the current class bonuses. I still don't see why the Gallente and Amarr Assault dropsuit need a bonus to shield recharge rate when their primary defense is there Armour.
The Assault Rifle weapons we will be getting or have already;
- Blaster Assault Rifle (BAR), Gallente short-mid range weapon,
- Laser Assault Rifle (LAR), Amarr mid-long range weapon,
- Scrambler Assault Rifle (SAR) Amarr short-mid range weapon,
- Gauss Assault Rifle (GAR) Caldari mid-long range weapon,
- Projectile Assault Rifle (PAR) Minmatar unknown range weapon.
I do approve what they did to the BAR; the need to make the it a short-mid ranged weapon was long overdue. Luckily CCP had to balls to nerf the BAR's range to the point where you need to specialise to get better range out of it. It also sets the GAR up to being the mid-long range weapon like the range you can get on the LAR. I also predict that the SAR will have the range of the BAR.
Hopefully with each subsequent update we will get more racial bonuses and class specialisation types. I would like to see the Heavy class get a Covert-Ops suit just like the Assault, Logi and Scout class.

I believe the minmatar assault rifle will be quite similar to its smg counterpart so short to mid range. |
