I am so tired of being roflstomped by top notch squads with top tier gear. First of all, as a noob i dont want to have to deal with this. I can tell who will win in the lobby by looking at the corps involved on each side. And even if i get paired with the good corp, im still not relevant. Its not fun, even if i win, when its clear the only reason i won is because of the the top 4 guys have 20/0. This game is so flawed. And im sure your all going to say "Look noobie just go find some 1337 corp to carry you"... oh that is so weak. I just want to play against other scrubs, in matches where my actions feel relevant. HOW HARD can it possibly to put some intelligence into your match maker? If i play an instant battle, i want to play with others around my skill level and sp level. DUH. that should be obvious to any dev. Instead im just cannon fodder, whose great idea was that? who ever it was should be fired |

On Tuesday 14th of May we will be enabling a special instant battle queue for new players called the Instant Battle Academy. Entry to these battles will be limited by total war points earned per character and will prevent older players from joining. New players will not be presented with the existing instant battle queues however they can join a squad with veteran players and be pulled into other battles. Faction warfare and planetary conquest battles will also still be available to new players.
This is a first step at improving the new player experience. We are also working on a vastly improved matchmaking system which is designed to better separate players based on their actual skill level instead of just isolating new players. We will hopefully be rolling that out in an expansion later this year.
You may notice I have not mentioned the exact criteria for being a new player and I am very interested in hearing how many skill points, war points, battles or any other metric you would use to determine what constitutes a "newbie". Remember the goal is to give new players enough time to understand the game not necessarily become proficient at it. So if you have any thoughts on that please reply here. |

Yeah, great, very nice....Still doesn't explain, why almost every battle is a "Pub Storm" right now. I can see this happening in Corp battles too, in the Planetary Conquest.
Maybe a total SP reset in the 14th, is not such a bad idea CCP. |

He's right - the new player experience is dreadful right now. Hopefully the new system will work a lot better, and I certainly hope it'll help with new player retention. |

Don't worry....The Instant Battle Academy is coming so you will be matched with players who have the same amount of skill points as you.

Sound like a typical CCP fix, all instant battles need some intelligent matchmaking or you just get one sided match after one sided match. Reminds me of black lights lvl 10 caped noobie servers, you level past that cap so quickly its irrelevant. Better than nothing, but still not the correct solution to the issue. CCP should be looking towards gaijin and wargaming for good examples of proper matchmaking. |

For this game to succeed it is going to need new players to get interested.
Try loading up a new toon and consistently getting into matches against proto players/squads. In no way is that experience conducive to new player retention. I have roughly 3.5 million SP and even then when facing proto squads using the GLU TAC it makes me want to rage.
Just joined a match where the number of clones was 48-6 lol

HTFU DUST had around 3000 players online this weekend, at pretty much all times. Just for comparison. Last I checked, PSN has 90 million registered members. I don't know if 3000 players at most times, including the weekends, is a very good number of players for a free-to-play title settled in a gameplay genre (shooters) which sells extremely well. And there's not that many free games on PSN to compete with...
Apparently, way too many people don't care about the EVE universe or some schmucks who regularly spout drivel like "HTFU" in response to decent suggestions for the game. But it's pretty likely that the lack of a proper matchmaking system and resulting pubstomps has caused so many people to turn their backs on DUST that it's already lost thousands of potential players who will probably never come back to it. |

Yeah in this day and age you only get to make one impression, and with the younger crowd its absolutely true. I used to love EvE, so that keeps me around Dust longer than it would have otherwise. If this wasnt related to EvE, i would have quit after my first pubstomp. Hell, i tossed my keyboard across the room after I got deployed against the same proto-gear squad 4 times in a row.
I just dont understand these Devs that seem to put off paying attention to the most important part of a game like this: its matchmaker. I have a feeling that 90% of the people who come around to play this game that never heard of EvE, will spend the majority of their time in instant battles before ever coming around to planetary conquest.. or even joining a corp. So if your core instant battle portion of the game doesnt produce good matches, how are you ever going to get a decent playerbase? I really hope this new matchmaker for noobies gets extended well beyond the first couple of matches, or its useless.
I want a direct answer from CCP: Please explain to me how you are not dumb.

Game is still busted, the academy kicks people out way too soon. Lowbees still get pubstomped in instant matches. Also the factional battles are prone to having an entire corp join on the enemy team vs randoms. Or worse, corps putting trolls on the enemy team. Its all so damn flawed, and its flawed because they have NO matchmaker, its painful. And i've started to do better, i get 10\2 rounds with meta 1 gear, but ultimately when the entire team is rolling proto gear, it drops to 5/20 .. and there is no hope for my pug team. Its fail, how hard is it to do some simple matchmaking. Squad A skill level X , then put in another squad close to skill level X. I dont care if the wait time goes up, i want good matches.
I dont see how making a FAIR instant battle matchmaker, has anything to do with your asymmetrical pvp fail spreadsheet tab123 combat that eve offers. You'll get your sad New Eden representation when the one guy who is awake at 4am has to defend his district from 16 stomp hungry russians. |

Why CCP doesn't divide matches based on gear is beyond me. They used to have separate servers. MLT/STD in one & ADV/PRO in the other would solve some of the problem. Player skill is something you can't control. Also, we need some servers that are vehicle free.
- My solution too simplistic? Maybe, but maybe that's the direction CCP should take. K.I.S.S. - Basing the matchmaking on WP earned doesn't work because some roles just get more WP than others despite having the same amount of time played. |

Doesn't work, see high level players get better milita gear than you do, same with standard. Nothing wrong with running standard, if you've got level 5 logi even the standard will get the 5 hp/sec regen
They should just do it based on sp I guess. |

If they do any matchmaking they should base it on SP, best way to keep it fair, and it allows for gear exploration while staying in the same tier. |

First I think the 10,000 WP cap might be too low. I mean I had an alt that just passed that the other day and I don't think I played more than 10 hours on it and non of that was in Academy. Maybe create a middle ground to where at 10,000 WP you have the option to run in the other modes but the Academy option is still there until they hit 20,000.
I am sure part of the problem is vets are taking alts into Academy for some brutal pub lessons and to turn the tears of N00bs into easy SP for them. Sad but true. So this defeats the entire purpose of the Academy in the first place. Hard to see a way around it.
My question is why are these Squads not jumping into Faction Warfare? I mean you might have to wait a couple of minutes to get into a battle but there are more populating than before the 14th and it seems the War Barge wait time has also been reduced. Most games the other team is full of randoms and we would much rather be playing organized teams. In fact, if they just required Squads only in FW then I am sure the wait time would be even less...this needs to happen btw.
Personally we avoid Instant Battle altogether whenever possible. More Faction Warfare battles (with different game-types) need to be available and we would never ever go back. |

It is far too low, thats like what 20 matches for an avg player? you are in and out of academy in a day. Then your stuck playing vs meta 4/5 squads in your meta 0/1 gears... FOR MONTHS. Yeah, if you want a large playerbase, better think of something quick, like a matchmaker for your instant battles... or a militia gear only instant battle mode... |

They decided to link Dust to Evewith PC instead of trying to make matchmaking more enjoyable for the majority.
And then in podcasts they compliment people for being complete and utter scum. CCP doesn't care as mucb as they'd like us to think. |
