I'm not a heavy, But I'm well aware of the HMG fiasco...
This is probably hardly relevant or even a fix, but I had a cool thought heavies would appreciate...
Give HMGs their range back so they and get their suppression fire back... (and technically, and HMG should be a full auto LARGE caliber weapon, I would think - the HMG is more of a "light auto cannon" due to its low damage per round, but I digress...)
Introduce a Heavy Shotgun for the heavy class - A full-auto multi-(dual-barrel, alternating, whatever) shotgun.
This would give heavies an option to be the ultimate in CQ Point-defense...
So HMGs could once again be a medium-range weapon for suppression/killing and an HSG could be for closer quarters/... killing... (It would tech a lesson to those pesky SG scouts, like me lol...)
Hell, make it into an Amarr Heavy weapon if ya want ... A "dual-barreled heavy cone torch flamethrowery weapon" that pulse fires each barrel with a blast of plasma, or something cool. Envision something badass and build whatever that is. When people get killed by it, they fly back a few feet and their corpse is covered in green/blue flames.
You'll see a lot more heavies just for the badassedness factor.
Lastly, make a proper "Heavy Machine Gun" - Large Caliber, High Damage, Medium-long range... Then again, I suppose this is what the Forge Gun is... Perhaps a anti-infanty version of the forge is in order - regardless, if ppl are using the forge a AI anyway. |

I think the AI Forge Gun you're looking for is something along the lines of a Heavy Mass Driver. Small magazine, large radius and damage. |
