I think we can all agree that it would definitely not make the nova knife op. Knifers have enough working against them.
It would dovetail well with the nova knife scout playstyle.
A sprinting knifescout coming at you would add serious fun factor to the game. |

Also has abyone else been getting blue shields when hitting people with knives?

As a fully specced meleetar knives user i agree, we need to be able to sprint with a charge. It wouldn't make it OP. A charge needs to remain to differentiate between the std, adv, and pro gears in more than just damage. |

Seriously why can you not charge while sprinting?
This needs fixed and I have never even used a nova knife. This game needs more variety and knives need fixed to make that happen. |

+1. Hit detection right now is absolute bollocks for the knives, all a non-heavy has to do is walk backwards and I can't hit him at all. The shields ping but he takes absolutely no damage, and all the guy has to do is lazily pop a couple of shots into my scout's face for him to die.
Come on CCP, I know you can add sprint charge, there was even an animation for it in the glitch from last build! |

advanced nova knifes are 1 hit kills......... I went 21 and 6 today using an advanced suit with the advanced knife, and obviously I couldn't sprint charge. They would start getting tremendously OP if someone could spring charge. Especially when you consider cloaking is coming soon. |

The cloaking i'm not super worried about though - that decloaking sound is audible from 100 feet away. As soon as the cloak module comes out we'll all become hyper-attuned to that sound.
How would having sprint charge have changed your 21/6 game? Would your tactics change or is it just that it redices your time to close with the target? I notice that the sprint-strafe doesn't give you too much lateral movement. |

I'm starting to get second thoughts on whether sprinting while charging should be implemented. I just looked at the numbers and I'm shocked by the level of damage they can do without the charge (only instant attacks). That and cloaks are coming one day (someday). |

Ok, well if the sprint charge is considered OP...
then allow a lock-on lunge forward when your in X meters from your target...
I actually make more kills with the standard melee because it actually LOCKS on my target. Yes, the knives are apparently more effective and land hits more often in this build (though I rarely land BOTH slashes ... or perhaps I'm being a total n00b with them), but I'm not noticing and kind of lock feature.
Perhaps, after the knives are charged, a lock-on reticule appears over targets in front of you. Targets within X meters turn RED and, upon release of R1, you lunge at the closest target at the cost of X amount of Stamina.
Because it's funny that using STANDARD melee with the knives uses stamina while quick slash and charge slash does not.
Perhaps causing the knives to use stamina will make any sort of sprint charge or lock-on feature balanced and not OP...
Edit: Also, a partial charge should do a partial amount of the max damage, agreed? I'm not sure if anyone has tested using say, a half-ish charge... |

It might be to OP to have a charge lunge. Then assault suits would be better knifers than scouts. I do think the Nova Knives need a sprint charge. It would make them more dangerous. I know what you're thinking, "MORE dangerous Sontie?! What's wrong with you??" Well, the shotgun is more dangerous than the knives right now. It can get in, kill 3-4 people, and then get out when it runs out of ammo. The nova knives require a lot more risk, since you have to concentrate on a single target at a time. If you miss, and even if you hit and don't get the kill, you're in serious danger. Takes a lot of dancing to live long enough to get the in another slash, which you can easily miss. |

How about they increase the delay between swings and each level reduces swing delay so that at max level it goes back down to what it is now? |

What if holding a charge increased your scan profile. Not automatically putting you on radar, just increasing your profile. Then sprinting with charged knives wouldn't be too OP. |

It's already a distinct sound to charge you're knives. Experienced players know that sound and will react. Only noobs let themselves get knifed in the back. All noobs deserve to die anyways.
Cosgar, you mean a delay between lunges? Or just standard swipes? IDK man, are you suggesting they remove charge completely and buff the quick slash while adding a skill to make the quick slash go faster? |

But the sprint charge mechanic is so cool and so right for the class it would be great if we could find a way to make it work.
Damage for knives was buffed - maybe overbuffed?
I love the idea of charged knives increasing your scan profile, it's a good auto-balancing mechanic. Maybe with 'Charge Masking' skills to bring it back down somewhat. Come to think of it, I would love to see holding a charge light up snipers and heavies(after they're fixed) too. |
