Does it work well or prove to be useful at all? |

Haven't got around to trying it out yet, will do so later on. Btw if anyone is interested I've found speed tanking pythons to be very viable. |

I run them but never really notice them picking up anything.
You have to be close enough to see them with your eyes anyway it seems. Plus the issue with not being able to see things when you are far away makes it tough. All of a sudden a tank or infantry will just "appear" etc.
As a drop ship pilot a forge gunner can see you but you cant see them. They can take you out from the opposite end of a map and you'll have no idea.

you lose most of your range by height wouldn't suggest it. |

The rage on the forge guns goes into infiity. Got shot down by an allied forge gunner in an instant battle earlier, according to him once dropships reach a certain height they're invisible to ground troops. At least some things work both ways. |

Do all types of active scanners share intel with rest of the team? Or only user benefit from it? |

I use it and i'm lovin it. Really helps with ADS aiming when targets are under the ship, since you "simply" need to aim on the red chevrons. |

Tried it, and I'm mixed on it. It's another way you help your team, and it does make aiming easier, but you have to be pretty low to use it and your sacrificing a tanking slot(I fly caldari) on an already weak aircraft. |

I haven't tried it, but regarding the range: If you hover at about 56 meter above the ground, which I consider a good engagement range for a DS, a 80 meter range active scanner gives you a horizontal range at ground level of that same 56 meters. Thanks geometry. Btw, I think that's already most of your HUD-radar's range.
However if I remember correctly the vehicular active scanner has a scanning resolution of 45 dB, so some support skills might be in order for that to be very effective.
Too bad I fly Caldari DS. Can't sacrifice that high-slot. |
