Hey guys,
I just wanted to make this post, because I have been noticing flagrant comments and sweeping statements about how CCP (or anyone for that matter) has gone about making/patching this game, some of this can be considered Hyperbole which, by definition is: "Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally." Now, hyperbole is extremely dangerous both for your credibility, your feedback, and the future of this game.
Example, If Tom, **** and Harry post on these forums along the lines of "Scrambler pistols are OP!!!!!1111!!, they crap on anyone even at sniper range! and they win you every fight!"
Not only do readers question whether or not take your opinion seriously, threads essentially descend into whoever can spurt out the most exaggerated comment. This can make it extremely difficult if not impossible for the route cause of the problem to be found, thus delaying any action to rectify the situation and making life harder for CCP.
Good feedback will use personal examples and proof of statements, even better if it's backed up with numbers, so that the reader can determine the exact degree of the situation and provide counter-arguments that match the situation if applicable.
For instance, "When going into a fight with my squad, I use my scrambler pistol instead of my main weapon, because it 1-2 shots shields even on Caldari prototype dropsuits, and this can be up to 20-25m, this to me makes me feel like a death machine"
I know that when it comes to winning the internets, the prize is normally for the most outlandish statement possible, but when it comes to giving feedback this is not the case, and is in fact the opposite.
I just ask that people take care when posting hyperbolic statements and to choose your words carefully, and that it would also be cool if forum users don't flame people who are using these sorts of statements but direct them away and then we will all benefit.

Freedom of speech is great, but when it works against what everyone is working towards (a better Dust) fear mongering without evidence to back it up is pointless, and us forum goers get to decide what is hyperbole.

You can have your freedom of speech, but if you go into an AMERICAN corporate discussion and brainstorming with hyperbole and insults, you'll be thrown out on your ass in no time. What we have here is COMMON SENSE for giving good and effective feedback.

This thread is common sense. The fact that using hyperbole in feedback is not helpful in any way is common sense. Sure, people can identify it as the utter c*** that it is, but it hurts the feedback process in general as good replies are buried in the garbage. Do you think CCP sorted through that 17 page Heavy Petition to see if there was anything valuable said on page 15?
Also, are you saying that it is good/beneficial to have hyperbole in feedback? |

I'm saying this from the point of view of someone trying to make changes to this game. They don't care about the back and forth banter on this forum. What they want to see is FACTS and SUGGESTIONS, not name calling and generalizations. If there is post after post of garbage, CCP will just ignore the feedback forum all together.

Absolutely, but comments viral throughout this forum like "HTFU", calling out peoples lack of skill being the problem, or noob bashing because they asked a question they didn't know the answer to all contribute to a hostile environment.

in this case it was overwhelming evidence it had nothing to do with "pretty please". i read alot of it not everyone was as positive as ur making out. public outrage has its place in changeing things too. as do threats and coersion. take a look back over the thread, there was humiliation there too. if there was no negative feedback (unintentional plug) things wud have stayed the same. IMO single mindedness is garbage. there is more than one way to skin a cat. |

Really dude? Our back and forth has created enough garbage on this thread (garbage being the analogy. If you're still hung up on the word 'garbage', replace them with: worthless, uninformative, counterproductive, good-for-nothing, pointless, poor, unproductive, unusable, etc)

Public outrage is all well and good. Rioting on the forums does nothing other than tell CCP "they're not happy". If you don't explain yourself, you're just noise. The louder the noise is, the faster people tune out.
There's plenty of ways to skin a cat, but why try with a crowbar? |

Declaring that you have a right to free speech is laughable on the internet because everyone has it and may express it. The only thing that would stop it on these forums would be through deleting posts and banning accounts left and right for opinions. I have read a ton of great feedback posts over the past year, and what has CCP done? Nothing! They keep saying they read the feedback, but from what I've seen in patch after patch they have no idea what they're doing. |

They have given tanks a buff to allow for longer fights not "Lol 1st shot wins" and remember, Dust is here for the long game, so those raising issues that are short sighted remember, just because CCP has 'released' Dust doesn't mean the development has been scaled back, just like SoxFour said. |

+1 Though i fear your statement will be lost on the masses. Logic has no bearing on impersonal arguments between interchangeable avatars. Face to face is a different story, but online where anyone can act anyway they want - often drawing upon attitudes and expressions that are forbidden in their household, contrary to their (or family's) beliefs/upbringing, or looked down upon in society as they turn to the expression of their fantasy in a world without consequence.
