I have been running a heavy in open beta and now I finally had some time to try a my heavy spec in uprising and to me it seems better.
To me heavies are supposed to be the "tank" role, where we soak up damage and soften targets and positions for the rest of the squad to finish the kills. With our increased shield and Armour we should not be able to do massive damage with an HMG as then we would be OP. We go in first and soften up the blueberries and then our team comes in and kills them while they are hurt.
Bonuses in uprising
1. I don't die in one shot from a scout shotgun combo. It now takes 2 to 3 shots to take me down, which seems right as a heavy should never go down to one shot from a standard weapon, unless its like a forge gun or something.
2. I can stand up to AR better, as they don't kill me in a 3 seconds any more. Thus this reinforces the the role for me to take damage and soften them up for my AR guys.
3. I noticed multiple mercs are now concentrating fire on me more then before which is good, as it frees up the rest of the squad to do their roles of damage dealing.
4. It is way more affordable to be a heavy. My 100 k default suit cost has been halved in uprising.
So in all I believe the Heavy has better survive ability, I did notice that our range to hit and damage as nerfed, but to me that seems fine.
The heavy to me seems like it is doing its role more now.
My 2 isk
Also I don't have mad gamer skills, and play pretty casually and have only around 6 million sp. All spec'd in heavy |

Granted we make less isk then the top guys, but it takes a certain person to play a heavy and enjoy the play style. The point of a heavy is to support the team; in corp matches and PC its not about isk, its about making sure all the roles are their and working together and to WIN.
Note - I have never done anything in Dust other then public matches, so i could be completly wrong and talking out of my ass:P |

Heavies are supposed to be a threat, not a sponge. HMGs are supposed to mow people down at close range and their not doing what they are supposed to due to the unneeded HMG nerf. Removing sharpshooter was good enough |

staying alive doesn't make you ISK, or even help your team necessarily. I'm glad you are happy that you get to spend less now and feel like less of a scrub cause you aren't dying much.
Killing with a heavy is the entire premise of all the talk here.
based on what you've said, you likely have never SEEN the top of a leaderboard in a pub match, but congrats, you can now survive. Different people have different aspirations on this game.
not tryin to be mean, but you are not providing a viewpoint that is even in the same light as EVERYONE else involved in deep discussions on the Heavy class. |

Yes I never do see the top of the leader boards (Usually in 6th or 7th)
No I don't sit in a corner I am usually the guy in the front firing (Still die lots)
Yes I only have played PUB matches, so it is very likely I would melt in a corp match
and Yes my viewpoint is different then most, I have played numerous MMO's and my perspective comes from their. I always played the tank role, and to me this is closest to tank that I can find. Now my perspective may be "wrong" with the DUST community on heavies, but it works for me, and I like the changes :) |

There is no such role as a dmg tank. You are not playing vs computer AI's with a taunt ability. Enemies can fire at the targets that present a danger to them and then take you down last. If you present no danger you are useless. Don't think just because a bunch of retards in pub matches are wasting ammo on you that means the class is fine. |

From an MMO perspective I understand why you're saying the heavy should be a damage sponge. You're thinking of a role like the "Tank" in WoW; a player that generates a ton of "threat" on NPC MOBS so the MOB only attacks the tanks. Tanks hold "Aggro" in this role.
This doesn't work in PvP. There's no incentive for anyone outside the heavy's short range to put them down. They aren't a threat.
To act in the role you're describing, HMGs (and all weapons) would need to have legitimate ranges, and HMG's in particular would need to be dealing massive damage. Then they would be a significant threat, and be shot at first. |

You know what would be a fun change.
Make rep tools based on a % of total armor. This would make it fun to repp heavies and for heaveis to be repped. Get a couple logis backing a heavy and they can provide an actual tank role and provide a fun healing role.
Right now i feel bad for heavies. I run scout and theres pretty much nothing they can do about me. Of all the complaints, the heavy have the most legit. I used to sort of fear running into one. Now its "oh let me just sprint away two feet until their gun is useless."
That being said. I think there is a weird mindset of the heavy that they HAVE to use an HMG. What about a heavy with a tact? Or mass driver?
The HMG seemed like its role got massively nerfed, but that doesnt make the suit terrible, it still has its strengths. But you never see a heavy with anything but a forge or HMG. Both of which actually dont play to the strengths of the heavy in general much at all. But as a scout, the day a heavy starts Tact ARing me BACK... that would be a scary day indeed. |

i'm still running around in my Skinweave Militia with all Militia BPO items and i am doing fine... not beast against all Proto but i'm doing fine....
I am not QQ, i think this build is okay
edit: oh yea, i'm Assault and AR again this build.... i'm not QQ about how i feel i was nerfed... i think the changes are nice. i do hate the blob warfare that the games can become but oh well... CCP needs to tweak their spawns, i'm still getting spawned in front of enemies... it sucks to die like that.. |

Hey, his viewpoint is his viewpoint!! If he was you, then he would have your viewpoint. I love you guys that live for the leaderboard and really feel that it makes a difference in your pathetic life. Have you ever thought that there are more of his viewpoints out there than your own. The top of the leaderboards carry how many people, thats right very few compared to the overall number of players playing this game, so more than likely his viewpoint is more common to the players in this game than yours. Think before you become an elitist ***hole, in a short amount of time this game and your leaderboards won't mean diddly squat to anyone.

sorry bud, but in all honesty IDGAF about the leaderboards... Im there cause I play too much, giving me more SP which is the true reason to grind.
HOWEVER, the fact that I play too much also allows me a fairly good viewpoint on the upsides and downsides of being a heavy, since that is all I play.
I did NOT criticize the OP for his comments, as I think all heavies can agree that our survivability has increased. That part of the whole discussion is over and done with. The fact that he said heavies are fine as is and not looking at the other side of the coin is the reason for the dispute.
and you should look around... there are less people playing the heavy class in 2 days after this new build than ever.
plus im sorry to say this, but the sad truth is there is VERY little skilled players in this game.
say theres a million total players? less than 10% have the skill to be competitive. so from that standpoint sure you wanna label that as elitist then so be it.
hate to break it to ya bud, but all the kills that I have that YOU seem to be hung up over.. they weren't hard to get, nor do I care about them. what I DO care about is how the game I've come to enjoy is played, and how the recent changes have affected the core gameplay, and that heavies are NOT 'fine'

Seriously though, good points cubs. I am yet to try to be competitive with my heavy yet do quite well in pubs. Pubs get hard when proto guys with 9-10mil + sp are about. Just trying to kill them is hard let alone in a corp match when they have backup. :(

I could give a **** less about you being on the leaderboard, you are nothing to me, who the hell are you? I'm going off of your words.
"based on what you've said, you likely have never SEEN the top of a leaderboard in a pub match, but congrats, you can now survive. Different people have different aspirations on this game."
"not tryin to be mean, but you are not providing a viewpoint that is even in the same light as EVERYONE else involved in deep discussions on the Heavy class."
That sounds like somebody that really needs his leaderboard to be someone. And once again, like you once again said, there are very few skilled players in this game, so I have a feeling his viewpoint makes more sense to the majority of the players in this game than yours. The fact that you feel your opinion should be more valued than the next guy, in my eyes, makes you an elitist F*&^%. You could have very easily said I don't agree with you and maybe helped him out by explaining why but no you pretty much insulted him and told him his viewpoint doesn't count because he hasn't been in the game as long as you have.
