Hello, fellow Dusties. Not sure if this is in the right topic, but I definitely think the word 'Rookie' is fitting for myself.
So, back to the question. I'm liking the update, and was so thrilled to be able to respec my skills and get the beloved prototype suit I've been dreaming of! However, halfway through upgrading my skills after the update, I realized, huh, this is getting pretty damn costly! I'd already gone through 2,000,000 SP only to be able to get the advanced assault suit, which I don't remember being so pricey.
Anywho, I realized I'd be way better off with one of the basic frames, since I don't care for role-specific bonuses and ~3,500,000 SP just for proto suit all together!! That's about 4/5 of my total SP...
TL;DR - Is there a way to 'undo' a skill investment, or will there ever be the option (AKA another 'respec')? If there isn't, there should be, for people like myself who can't decide what they want, and when they figure it out it's too late. |

Yea, this would be a pretty freaking excellent option. Although, it might get a little... I can't think of the word. Its like OP, but its more.... Over-Used. Maybe slap an ISK price on it, like in 'City of Heroes'... Maybe 1M ISK = 1 Respec? |

I'd pay a good bit of AUR for it. Surprised it wasn't an option. I know that if 1,000 AUR could let me respec I would've been buying waaaay more. Always do when it's an option.
Regardless, I don't think that's the way it is to be. "HTFU" and what not. |

This is exactly what I had in mind! I would totally pay aurum (never bought aurum before, but definitely would for this) or ISK. I feel like, if someone thought that this would be unfair, in some crazy stretch of the mind, that putting a price on it would keep people from respec-ing constantly.
I can see why people could have a problem with this - because people would invest their ISK into top-gear prototype items and bring it into public battles - like a pro tank for temporary use or a prototype sniper rifle, but there's no added advantage. It's not giving extra SP, just allowing us to use what we already have, especially if we used our SP on something we have no desire to use anymore.
Hopefully CCP will consider this! :( The respec in Borderlands 2, for example, was sooooo useful. I wouldn't have played as much if it hadn't been there, so... something to consider! |

Yeah, I think it's wishful thinking, but it would definitely get me so much more into the game if I could do trial and error, and discover what to use and what not to use without having it be penalized, or just fixing a mistake. I guess this also keeps people playing longer if they do happen to make a mistake, because they're forced to grind for SP and buy boosters even. SUX. |

Because I did a lot of the same (spread SP thin because I wanted to try out things and find my niche) I do agree that a respec would be nice. I see this as a common, and likely reoccurring, issue.
If CCP doesn't add the possibility of an AUR/ISK based respec, I would like to see a respec option for players with 3M or less SP. This should give people enough time to play around with different fits/skills/roles and not make it something that would be horribly abused by vets who train to V in anything they want. Just a thought.
But yes, CCP, take my money. I want to respec. |

One million ISK is a trivial amount of money though. Maybe have it so you can only use half of your total sp for the first 12 hours to balance things out. |

Did some detective work around here and apparently I'm not alone in making this mistake. Damn.
No way at the moment.
I'm probably going to get flamed here, but let me make a point.
CCP comes from making Eve. Eve is a rare beast in terms of MMOs. Unlike most out there, Eve rewards the smart players, and the dumb players get punished for making dumb moves. This does two things. First, dumb players get smarter, by learning what works and what doesn't. Second, the game becomes more "real" because you don't have the constant dumbing down of the game that you see so often elsewhere. You're environment becomes an immersive one with dangers and consequences for things.
So far, CCP has been sticking to their guns pretty much with Dust as well. You get rewarded for making wise decisions, and, well, you pay the price for making dumb decisions. I know this is kinda harsh, but that's part of what makes Eve great, and hopefully, that will be part of what makes Dust great.
So, personally, I kinda hope they don't ease up too much here. Decisions should have consequences. You should have to actually think about them, maybe even research them before jumping in. I know that goes counter to the console FPS mentality, but I'm hoping Dust breaks that mold. |

You do realize that CCP will announce an appropriate time to file a petition for a one-time (and final) respec, right? You can file a petition via www.dust514.com/support or send them email with the subject line "Skill Respec" to [email protected]. |

By the way, I agree with Buster. New Eden is a universe in which Eve Online and Dust 514 operate and this universe has been thriving already for 10 years non-stop under the following rules:
1. Adapt or Die. 2. Don't use what you can't afford to lose. 3. For every choice you make, you will experience permanent consequences.
#3 is a core principle that CCP will not break even if breaking that principle brings in more revenues. It's one of those things that CCP is doing well to maintain in a harsh universe that, for all intents and purposes, mimics the real-world politics and economy of modern-day Earth. It's because of this that Eve Online has attracted real-world economists, real-world diplomats, real-world accountants and auditors, real-world day-traders, and as a result this creates a universe so unique that Guild Wars 2...
I'm serious here... Guild Wars 2 literally tried to mimic the economic design of New Eden but failed miserably because they tried to impose too many rules on it besides the three core principles I mentioned earlier.
On top of that, you are seeing a universe that is so lawless that it shocked many non-Eve players to see CCP do nothing while players get scammed in Jita local chat, suicide ganked in high-sec space, suffer economic downturn due to market manipulation and corners, corps being destroyed from within as spies sew seeds of dissent among the ranks, etc.
Dust will be just like that in the next 5 years alone. Some of this stuff you and I can already experience. Spies among us already have the potential to destroy what you built just by simply disbaning your corp, kicking you out, and taking your assets. And that's just for an appetizer for the main course to come because revenge is usually a dish best served cold.
"And it is very cold in space" - Khan, Star Trek: Wrath of Khan
As you can see, so many things revolve around the core principles I mentioned. All choices must have consequences and you must live with those consequences whether you like it or not and whether you are playing an MMO or a FPS. The core principles of New Eden don't recognize boundaries and the console market is one boundary that New Eden is willing to cross and go after next. |

Pretty Much what they said.
If they allow respecting from aur it will make EVE pay to win. Which is what CCP stated will not happen, not due to EVEs protest.
And to clarify it wasn't much of an "update", the full client was launched. You guys were testing the beta build.
A lot of ppl seem to forget that beta don't mean demo. |

Unfortunately, a large number of console players have been conditioned (ie: Pavlov's Dogs) by the console industry to believe that a beta equals a demo equals a finished product when in reality that is exceedingly far from the truth. |

That is a bit of a generalization. I'm a console player and I know what bate and full clients are, LOL.
I think it is just the ps3 community playing COD and not enough mmo. So far every ps3 mmo ppl (not all mind you) have no idea it is an mmo. Even dcuo players were in denial that dcuo was an mmorpg, and they also stated that it was catered to the fps crowd. (untrue) |

I never said all of them are conditioned as mentioned. Only a large number of them. I'm a console player too. |
