I really can't believe they made such a change like this. I know, CCP thought they were making it better, but as they can now see by the amounts of complaints by the players... It's worse.
First off, I'd like to set my viewpoint on this subject. I'm a sniper/shotgun in the game, and they have become unusable due to the amounts of health people can have.
The snipers are useless because people have over 600 health, so it would take a kalaakiota tactical 4 shots to kill a person. (The clip size is 3) The only way you can actually kill a person now is to either wait for a long time for a charge, 2-3 continuous shots by an ishukone (slow firing), or get lucky with a head shot (1% chance)
Next, heavy machine guns are horrible. The aim is worse than before, and the bullets do almost nothing. My allies have tried using them, and they can't even kill a single person. I can prove it as well. With 200 shield and 400 armor, I was able to walk up to a heavy with an advanced heavy machine gun(an aggressive heavy at that) and in a 5-7 second period of firing at each other, I won with my shotgun and left with over half my shield. I sympathize with all you heavies out there that are out of a job.
Down the list, we come to laser rifles. I really hated laser rifles back in the beta. They would kill me in less than a second. Now, in this version, laser rifles are as useless as sniper rifles. The health on people's suits are too high. The aim on the laser rifle is worse. And the damage reduction was too much of a change. I hated them for killing me so fast. Now, in uprising, I pity people who use them and let me get away with my 200 shield intact.
Finally, we come to shotguns. I found extreme pleasure in going up behind someone and shooting them in the back without noticing. Now, with an advanced breach shotgun, I walk up to a person who's not paying attention, then, I shoot at their head...... Next thing I know, the guy is turning around with still a decent amount of health to overpower me. WTH!!! A shotgun is supposed to kill a person quickly and swiftly, a breach with one shot usually. Now I find myself having firing battles with assaults and mass drivers alike. Please CCP. Health and damage reductions due to shield or armor are really getting in the way.
Now, as I said. MOST weapons have become unusable. The weapon you can use are either too basic or are overpowered.
The assault rifle is probably the most used weapon in the game. Now, that quote has been taken to the extreme. Since all the other weapons have become obsolete to the assault, everyone has to use them. Literally, I've seen everyone in the entire battle use assaults or medics. What happened to the variety CCP? What happened to the tactical part of this game? It's just become a boring 1 weapon shoot'em up game.
The mass driver is still overpowered. It's lob range, blast damage, and impact range are all too powerful. I find myself in situations where I'm going head to head with a mass driver, and almost every time, I lose the battle. It takes 3-4 shots from them for me to die, and with an extended blast area, it's almost impossible to kill them without an assault rifle... Again, assaults are the only reliable weapon now.
So, as a summary. Health on people's suit have become too high. Snipers, shotguns, laser rifles, and heavies are no longer useful in combat due to the damage reduction/ratio or aiming trouble. And Assaults are now the only decent weapon in the game, making strategy redundant in battles. It's all about killing now. No more tactics.
Don't even get me started on the dropsuit skill points. |

Since every weapon got a bit of a nerf relative to the new armor and shields, it's fine in my opinion. All it really does it put for focus on each engagement as more of a mini-battle (which in my opinion requires more skill, but that's for a different topic). However, the point you brought up with the tactical sniper needing more shots to kill than it has bullets in its clip is interesting. This sounds more like something CCP flat out overlooked. Its fine if it takes 4 shots to kill someone with the tactical, but the clip size should be adjusted accordingly. |

And I'll get you started on dropsuit skill points. It's a 6x skill now instead of an 8x. It's easier! Don't think because it says "basic" it sucks. All the suits in Chromosome were "basic" by this definition. All specialized suits do is add a slight passive bonus. I stopped when I got my Basic Prototype and it left me with more skill points than I expected.
Okay, I get the dropsuit thing, but I was actually talking about getting to the racial bonus dropsuits. Of course, the basic are okay, and to make sure where I'm coming from is understood, I spent over half my skill points on the Gallente medium, And I'm a bit disappointed. I was stupid for the moment I spent those skill points.
Anyways, the basic dropsuit is easier to get to, but the more advanced models (assault, sentinel, scout, and logistics) are harder to get at. Think of the new players that might want to play. It would take them over 2 million sp just to get into them. That's a good 5-8 weeks of continuous play and not using the skill on any other weapons. That's a lot for just a single suit type and race bonus.
I get it. "It's takes a lot of work, but it benefits in the end." But that's 8 weeks of a persons life. |

The Standard HMG lost a whopping 2.1 Damage per shot.. whoop-de-doo... means instead of an epic 550 DPS (rough) you deal a measly 470 DPS (roughly)... Potential that is of course...
Lets' Halve that so you get a relatively accurate amount of damage you can do.
275 DPS Vs... 235 DPS... Yeah... Such a Hard hit with the nerf hammer they do next to nothing!!!!
The Range nerf was needed... I could stand at my AR's max range (Sharpshooter V and Sharpshooter Prof III) and still cop shots from a HMG... The damage nerf wasn't harsh either... but now, oh my god, they have a defined role comparative to being heavier run-and-gun Assault Suits. |
