Thoughts so far? Worth the SP? Do u get points from using it? Have you suffered from the other team using it? Wondering if this is something a brand new player could equip to immediately be useful. |

I've spec'd into it, seems effective although there may be some flaws with it as during 1 or 2 matches I was getting no blips at all. Apart from that, very effective, no doubt... but I don't thing there are any WP gains from it |

Why would you get points for using it?
Seriously it is meant to help you get points by killing the Red Berries.
Which is for making their insides their outsides as well as Red Berry Jam. |

I can't seem to get it to work, any tips? I've even stood right next to a red dot and got the same margin of error screen |

Just got the basic AS, and if nothing else, my squad loves it when I light up a whole blob of red dots for an orbital strike. |

It would be yet another support role (like DS piloting) that penalizes people for playing. By not getting WP they wouldn't be getting paid as much as others. |

Mild usage benefits when running with a blob of electronically-disadvantaged grunts, in that you can hang back behind them and scan behind walls and objects to show them where to point their barrels next. Quite difficult to use solo due to slow animations for getting out and putting away, unless you skill into one of the scanners that lets the dot linger for a good while.
It'll definitely have a use in the 48+ matches where it's just two fronts of expendables grinding into each other, but with very little benefit to the end user. |

"You have been scanned" shows up on the screen when somebody scans you with it. That kind of makes it less useful for sneaking up on people. |

I put a few points into it. I've managed to save some blueberries and myself from a few ambushes so far.
Not sure it's something I'll carry all the time but it's useful if you're behind your front lines, or changing objectives. |

QFT someone tried sneaking up on me while I was resupplying "you have been scanned" pops up no one infront of me so I turned round and the poor reddot was about 20m away still with his scanner out so I killed him, it was quite handy if he just shot me he probably would have got a kill but the scan message saved my life so yes scanners are worth it. |

Interesting, I never knew that. So scanners can be used to troll?
Person A:"Oh guys we just got scanned."
Person B:"What?"
Person C: "Oh right I got the message too. Lets get to some cover."
Person B: "... Is this some kind of joke?"
Person C: "Dude, we were scanned, they're coming for us."
Person A: "There! They just scanned us again!"
Person B: "Oh I saw the message! Sorry about not believing you guys."
A minute later...
Person B: "Maybe we should go help out the guy at Alpha."
Person C: "Don't, can't you see they keep scanning us? They're waiting for us to make a move. I bet they've got snipers watching."
Person A: "Good thinking, C. Lets just wait here."
2 minutes later...
Person B: "Guys... we're losing..."
Person C: "Alright then, why don't you go out and get yourself killed then, huh? They've been scanning every 10 seconds, they havent attacked because they know we have the upper hand in position."
Person A: "C's right, B. It's not worth the risk."
Person B: "But I'm looking at the map now, and it's 4v4, and 3 of the redberries are killing our lone blueberry up at Delta!"
Person C: "Are you telling me... there's only one person with a scanner up there?"
Person A: "KITTEN!" |

In one of the Fanfest talks they said that there would be WP for scanning (or maybe it was scanning within X seconds of a kill).
I can't remember the details or whether it was Soon or SOON(tm), but I definitely remember it being mentioned. |

I think with just 2 levels or so into dampening and a level or two into your specialized suits the standard scanners shouldn't pick you guys up. |

Also, as a speedy Minmatar scout I don't care if people pick me up on scanner...by the time they do I'm already a football field away from where I showed up... |

You won't be able to scan light frame dropsuits with the standard scanner but the advanced scanner should be able to scan all but scouts fitted for stealth with multiple or high level profile dampeners. |

It's also to help your teammates as well, which you wouldn't get credit for. You get WP for supplying your team with ammunition or repairs, it seems reasonable enough that you could also get WP for supplying them with information. I'd imagine a fairly low level, like 1WP per person lit up by the scanner with a cap of 25-50WP/min, would be reasonable while also rewarding effective scanner use. |

CCP did state that the active scanner gave away its presence.
As a DS pilot I'd advise you not to hold your breath on the WP's though. |

I like the scanner and have used it too pretty good effect both in a squad and out but can't understand why it should give away that you have been scanned. |

I haven't used it, but I haven't heard of anyone getting the promised WP bonus for using it either.
What I expect is that there SHOULD be an Assist if a still-lit target dies. Incentive to keep scanning when you're in a well-concealed position and there are friendlies on the way in, and incentive to skill into the high-tier scanners with a longer scan duration. |
