At Fanfest the devs said something about Dust numbers being similar to Eve numbers, but I think they must have been err... what's that word? Oh, yes: wrong.
4,000 is not very impressive is it?

While I dont expect the numbers to be huge, I would imagine a lot of people are still downloading the game. Some with slower internet may even do it over night or something, i think the total download is around 3gigs, but its in stages so i dunno. |

There was a thread earlier asking players how old they were. I threw them all into a spreadsheet and the average was 28. Remember that all those 28 year olds in America are stuck at their 9-5 for another hour and a half, and that's only the ones on the east coast. |

Not very impressive at all for a free to play shooter , but this game still hasn't released yet so the numbers should jump when it does. Eve online gets around 40,000 to 50,000 players and fps games gets much larger than that on consoles. |

While I am not jumping on the bandwagon with this thread I kind of chuckled when I logged in and saw 4k
All of these people going on about "shitstorm" this and "all these gamers" that are really living in a bubble. Even the activity on this forum (which is dead most of the time) should indicate to people the rate at which this came is being taken up.
Hopefully Uprising will come good and more players will join but the playerbase is and will remain small by AAA standards. The level of commitment need alone will deter many.
As I said, so long as CCP is happy and more importantly profitable then building this up and catering to people who want to stick around should be fine but them nor the gamers should delude themselves into thinking they will do massive numbers like the big boys who many here like to laugh at. |

Just to put it into perspective. ARMA III 'ALPHA' had 3000 people online. In Planetside 2 that is only 1 server. In Halo 4 that is the current playlist for the lowest populated game mode. Not going to even compare CoD numbers. |

I live east coast, and I was always under the impression that there were a lot of EU players because almost every squad I have been in has been dominated by brits that I can barely understand. But seeing as I notice myself playing "randomly" with the same people almost every other match 4000 people sounds right. Take away a 1000 for them just sitting in MQ like they do in EVE. Take away another 1000 as they are probably doing clan stuff. Maybe another 500 sitting AFK in the MCC. That leaves very few people actually playing the game. |

Participation seems to have been declining since uprising was announced. Also evening EST overlaps more with EU. When im on (0200-0600 GMT) there are very few EU...but lots of college students! |

I JUST got outta class on finals, and am downloading. Not to count the amount of people at work/class/school (for minors)/Sleep AND to account for the fact that it is a beta. Just saying.

Considering dust is been out for quite awhile now and is reaching the small numbers of 5 on, mag has been out for 2 years and still has 1-2k people still playing. The numbers for dust514 is bad, because mag had like 10x the amount of people playing in beta. |

As a general rule I never play (for any length of time) an online game for at least a day after a major patch. Just not worth the major headaches as the bugs are found/worked out. I might login to take a brief look tonight when I get home from work but I doubt I will do much more then that for at least a day.
Maybe if I was going to be involved more in PC it would be different, but all the active Dusters in my corp have agreed that we lack the resources currently for PC. |

20-30k people playing daily might be plausible if you spread it out across timezones. But how do you add another 10k to currently logged on player counts? The number is the number. There is no changing that unless more people log in. |
