I am playing a round of ambush, and everyone on the red team quits besides one guy. Instead of killing him mercilessly, I got my squad to stop shooting him and then gave him my tank. We spent the rest of the round running around in LAVs giving him stuff to shoot at. Afterwards, I sent him a squad invite and this was his response:
"I don't play often enough to matter"
It broke my heart that this is how new players feel. |

It is kinda sad to see the type of folks on the past couple days, since it seems the vets are taking a break.. I played a couple today and reds just running past me aimlessly, unfortunately since its a free game and CCP doesn't give new players anything to fight in/for and no initial investment this is going to be the attitude of the masses...

This game is about connections and sociability. To form bonds and to know people.
The tools for groups to happen, the improvement of communication, all this is important.

Seems like he was victim of the "elitist" nature of the game. People also think EVE is hard, and most feel discouraged by that idea to the point, that when they give it a try, they feel like whatever they do won't be affect anyone in any way... wouldn't that the same would happen in DUST.

To give new people a chance in public matches, the matches have to be changed drastically to accommodate them. Some extreme ways
1) No premade squads. Everyone hops into the game solo and are randomly squaded up. 2) Much better matchmaking. Make it based on SP earned so far. 3) Keep kit levels restricted in public matches. 4) No Precision Strikes. Prevents the winning team from slaughtering the losing team even more.
Dust 514 was made for Corp vs. Corp battle. Unfortunately that doesn't translate into public matches very well where guys in Proto suits can go 35-0 and the new guys don't even stand a chance. |

Coolest thing I've seen was playing a round of OMS with two buddies and a single lone red dot comes in. Rather than shoot we pull our nanohives and swarm him. Two go down and one of our dudes gets him.
So about a min later pur squad is messing around the back of the map and this red dot appear. Carrying a nanohive and challenging us to box with him.
So we all have some great 1v1 Nanohiive boxing rounds. This friends is the sport of real gentlemen. |

I was in the squad. It was really sad. He emptied 4 whole clips of his scrambler pistol and never hit me once. We were just chasing him around trying to give him the tank. He had it for about a minute and then the match ended. A share button or pvr would have been great for this moment. |

Dust is not for the casual player and when I hear CCP trying to target that audience I laugh. Nothing about dust is casual and every bit of it is for a hard core audience. CCP needs to just except it and target the FPS players who are craving for more then just a pointless match. |

Well lets hope they have good marketing because I have personally shown dust to 7 rl friends of mine which are casual gamers and its just too much for them or they just want to push a button and play a match with a simple amount of weapons. For anyone to get a grip on this game you have to invest a lot of time and effort into it. MMO players have no problem doing this because thats what they have been doing anyway. It broke my heart that this is how new players feel. Honestly, I can relate to that poor guy. I don't like to leave a match I'm in just cause things are going south. Makes the time I'd devoted to the match seem a waste. I'd probably have never joined a corp, either, if someone I knew from ACV hadn't invited me. And yes, I am a casual player. I don't play for the 'srs bsns', I play to have a bit of mindless fun. I'm going to miss the fun part when friendly fire goes live... |

I think this is going to be pretty normal in high sec battles. COD players and the Casual audience mostly are going to be playing in that mode. |

Come on, bro. Open up your eyes to the fact that DUST can be a fun game for everyone. Show your Brightside. |

I wonder how many newbies even know how to get to the forums and log in to utilize it...
BTdubs, fun match the other day Will. Not a particularly good one of mine, but that's what I get for soloing and getting sloppy. |

Another story - pick up a random blue dot, and work really hard to help him stay alive and work towards objectives. This is actually really fun and caused him to dig out his mic. When he turned it on, he disconnected, and we weren't able to get him to rejoin our squad. Another lost blueberry soul |

It broke my heart that this is how new players feel.
That is the saddest Dust related story I have ever heard... ='(
Props for trying to show him a good time. We are all here to have fun, and getting proto romped when you are solo against a whole squad is disheartening even for hardened vets. Respect. |

It broke my heart that this is how new players feel. I actually felt sad reading that. Those are the kinds of people I pull into my squad in Planetside 2 when I see them getting killed over and over by themselves so I can help them have some fun. |
