I have been playing in a bunch of matches lately, a lot of people are bringing in tanks. I know with each level the swarm gets 1 more rocket fired, but is there any reason I should use those other than skilling into heavy dropsuits and forge guns?
I am an Assault/Infantry so I wanna keep my skills to the minimum of light weapons per say. But if I cant get a good deal on swarms, I will be forced to skill into heavy weapons. |

Depends, swarms allow you to chase a tank down better, and you get very respectable damage at higher levels, and they also tend to tear armour tanks apart if you have someone else swarming with you. They also follow vehicles behind cover occasionally, or just smash into it. The other plus side is that you don't have to spec into an entirely new suit and set of skills.
Swarms aren't as effective against shield tanked vehicles however, they tend to shrug you off and kill you/get out of range. But swarms can be a good investment for AV, proto swarms easily do over 2000 damage a hit, which is more than enough to send most vehicles running for the hills. |

Yes, since you have the ability to shoot at tanks without having to compensate for speed or lag, like you have to do with the forge, Also, use 1-2 flux grenades and you will see just how fast a swarm launcher tears apart armor |

Yes- people should definitely use them more. They don't need to be used on heavies, so you can get where you need to be quickly, and without everyone seeing you. They're also very effective at long range.
I was in a battle where we destroyed an AUR tank just with 2 militia swarms on different vantage points, with nanohives. |

Also they work really well if you're also packing Flux grenades.
Cheap non-Heavy AV suit.

Forge vs. Swarm Launcher. It is a really close battle. IIRC, it is 80 / 120 damage against Shield / Armor for Swarms and 100 / 100 for Forge Guns. Between the two, it is a toss up for me. The both seem to have about the same range, similar firing speed (with the exception of the Assault Forge Gun), and both have a fairly annoying detriment. Forge have to be fatties, Swarms have to lock-on.
I would advice against Swarms/Flux grenades, at least as your only AV suit. Flux grenades do murder Shields but Sica/Gunnlogi/Sagaris are bloody fast. You hit them with a Flux grenade and they will high tail it out of there. It is also next to useless against Armor tanks. Speaking from personal experience, my Tank's Shield is there to notify me when I crash into something. AV grenades only do marginally less damage to Shield Tanks and have a lock on/don't need to be cooked for maximum benefit. Personally, I stay stick with Forge/Swarms and AV grenades.
I have the level 3 Swarm Launchers. I put the points into it just recently considering the whole respec coming up. It is a vast improvement. If I do not outright kill Tanks (as in they are decently tanked and at least Standard), I can deny them from an area very easily. If I am close to a Tank, I hit them with the Swarms and then throw both AV grenades. The Swarms are basically the Sneak Attack bonus and the grenades are to kill/scare them away. As they get out of Range, I will pelt them with more Swarms.
But speaking as Mr. Tank Driver: they are totally worthless. Never use them. Ever. Assault Rifles and Locus Grenades are the way to kill Tanks.

Swarms are actually extremely effective against shield HAVs. Shield HAVs, like Sagaris have lower EHP than their armor counterparts, like Surya. Since the Surya has so much more EHP than a Sagaris, it takes more swarms to kill a Surya than it does a Sagaris.
The STD level is even worse for shield HAVs. Armor still has a lot of survivability @ that lvl. |

I am typing this as a game I am about to describe is 2 ticks from ending.
I had my specialist swarm laucnher (level 2) and the enemy had a Myron with just over 1700 shield and 1000 armor. I hit him once with a swarm launcher and he activates an afterburner module. This happened through this whole game. Ever time my first barrage of swarms hit him, he would run faster than my missiles. So how the hell am I supposed to kill a dropship if it can fly faster than my swarms and outrun them?
I realize getting higher swarms would fix this problem more than likely. But with the resepc in 2 days. I dont think I can level up to the next set because I am already capped. and just over 18000 skill points unnallocated. Is there any way I can beat a dropship like that with my current set of swarms? |
