I am really not one to get on the forums and rage.
I read dev posts, post a bug or balance discussion intermittently, and that's it.
This announcement, for whatever reason, irks the living hell out of me. It seems irrational, and I'm hoping it is not my inner child just wanting the content Monday not a week later. But to me it seems that this really goes against typical CCP practices. It seemed main thrust of the public outcry I read today wasn't grounded in the skill/weapon time-gap, it was those not on the ball enough to have realized what the region was and do any prep. Those 'not ready' advocating for a date push, regardless of through what avenue they argue their points, are simply leveraging for their own success- a week is a lifetime of additional prep for Dust-side and Eve-side assets to prepare.
The gap for skills is an oddity, sure- but the downsides would be negligible, and will still have to be faced for the week of FW and Pub matches, despite PC being pushed. The main stated issue isn't being addressed. Not to mention that because of the issue with timers in code, spoken about by FoxFour more than once means that 48 hours will elapse, essentially, before first PC battles. That means assuming 6th as release, the 8th would be first conflict, less than a week before weapons content drops on the 14th. The skill point sink for any one of these weapons (610K @ 'x2') could be earned between passive and active during the 2 'weeks' worth or cap spanned by this gap.
I am not making accusations at CCP or anyone advocating for the push, just feels like a ninja nerf to the numerous corps and alliances I know are prepared, and have been, for quite some time. I was taught a long time ago to trust your gut- and this just feels like FORUMWHINE= ACTION.
I love CCP for engaging its customers in the way it does, I brag on their business model- and have even stole some of their tricks for engaging customers to use at the software company I work for (CSM clone of customer stakeholders is in the works at my firm). I deal with customers and custom software requests every day myself. From this I know that there is such a thing as being too responsive to customers- especially if it goes against the other half of the CCP corporate mentality many of us admire:
