With all the "dropships are underpowered" threads gonig around, I'd like to hear some of the communities best games in a dropship. Whether you were gunning, flying, or just on the ground, what are the best games that you've seen a dropship pilot have and how did it happen?
My personal best: We were playing on one of the city maps and my brother called in his 630k Myron at the beginning of the match. I managed to go 29-0 gunning for him, nearly getting two orbitals. I didn't even bother to use the orbital I did get because we were more deadly in the dropship.
So, who out there is going to top that? |

I can't top that but once on the four point map an enemy dropship kept gunning it underneath the table top in the center of the map over and over. At one point I tried (and failed) to jump off on top of his ship. I was kind of sad when he got shot down I liked the fact that he was having fun, not giving a **** about the battle around him |

Don't you just love it when they scatter under your proto blasters? It makes for such a great time! Until they bring out militia forge guns...
Also, I'm not sure there's anything more fun than watching proto players try to figure out what the heck is damaging them as they dance into several areas of cover before dying. |

I didn't know that. Perhaps I should look a bit more closely at the skill tree. I know that all my kills came with stacked passive damage mods on. Those things make the scattered turrets beastly. |

I fly a Grimsnes with Proto Blasters. I don't think any of my gunners have gotten over 30, in fact I think the top any of my gunners have gotten is 27 - 0. I've had the pleasure of taking out Madrugars with it though and let me tell you it is immensely satisfying. It's always good when the pilot (usually me) comes first with 0 - 0 or kills gotten purely from orbitals.
There was also one where I got into a dogfight with an enemy Myron and took him out of my skies. |

I was flying my 650k-ish Grimses when some redberry called in a militia dropship and rammed it into mine killing both of us. I decided to stop flying dropships for a while after that.
Or the time when I had a fight with a bolas! He was nice enough dropped off my same 650k-ish dropship and start flying away so I thought we could be friends. Now I had a tank coming my way around a building so I hit the afterburners to go blasting out of there, except apparently he lagged out over my location so I slammed into him full speed killing my entire crew. I think I lost that fight.
My favorite though has to be when I was flying my dropship and, amazingly, my gunners managed to kill some people but it was time to leave (darn swarm launchers). So I flew away, activated my hardeners and reps, and thought I'd be fine... until one last swarmer hit me which reduced me to 1/5 armor. That was okay though, I can still fly with 1/5 armor right? Wrong apparently, my ship started to free fall despite the fact that by the time I hit the ground I had half armor from my reps.
Need I go on?
Yes I do actually!
My second favorite match go to my 650k dropship vs the blueberry MLT shield tank. I was lowering my self down for a pickup of squad mates outside objective E on Ashland, I was taking my time as my squad had just eliminated all redberries in the location and capped the point. I am *just* about to land when *BOOM!* my ship completely explodes killing me instantly. The cause? Some blueberry in a MLT tank had their head too far up a kitten to see me and drove straight into me. The best part? They didn't even slow down, in fact (I messaged them) they thought someone had attacked when he lost 1,000 shields (compared to my roughly 4k eHP that blew up instantly) |

I recently had a great dogfight with a dropship that had proto missile turrets. That was a fun fight! After killing him swooping down to finish him off is always a satisfying conclusion to the fight.
And Texs, get your negativity out of my thread! This is a place to recount the good games! |

I know lol I know it isn't particularly notable but one of my most satisfying matches with a dropship was on Ashland when I got 5 kills just by landing on snipers sitting on the pipe scaffolding. I died in the 5th kill though because I landed a bit too hard (he started to run away!) |

In case anyone gets the wrong impression I think it's important to point out that against a bad team you can pull off 30-0 with militia AR. It is these occasional lucky happenstances that can also allow for such performance by ds gunners.
That said, I've had a few really good dog-fights. When both of us are inexplicably unharassed by AV, I've flown a couple games where more than half the time was spent fighting another DS 1v1. I wish I knew who the pilots were but it's hard to tell sometimes. Missiles vs blasters, shields vs armor. It was fun. |

My 29-0 match was against 90% militia who only tried to shoot me down once with militia swarms. Don't know why they stopped trying after we killed them once, but I'm not complaining. It was an ambush, so it was over fast at least. |

all in 1 day:
killed a sageris.
killed a Gunlogi with 1 blaster, when Metro jumped out to run we killed him and gave the infrantry butt hurt after (forgot KDR though)
then we fought in an epic A2A battle, my DS with 1 blaster turret against 1 evenly matched pilot (alot of tech speced into piloting if not all) he had 2 missle turrets, then there was a Vipara with 1 missle gunner. we shot down the Vipari and again when he returned, we fought hard against the other pilot but no 1 one (my buddy got him with an Assualt FG though) but not before I pulled of backflips and other stunts while my gunner gave him plasma, 2 secounds out of the match we were proud the majestic Myron was the last ship to fly and as it took the direct rout to thew right of the tower to ambush a 3rd Vipara there flew perpidiclar, a FG shot us and changed our course directly into the tower, after we crashed the game was won but even with the loss of the ship that was a great battle.
another time: my Myron crashed landed behind eneamy lines that streamed from the fishbowl, we repped the ship but was stranded becuse it was on its side, we fought them off for 3 long minutes intill they overwhelmed us, we then retook the crash site, rehacked my Myron and did DS surgery with a lAV, we then flew high showing Gurista pride, then was shot down by a Gurista FG (WOW thats ironic) and died >.>
gunned a DS another time, also went 29-0.
killed a decked out madruager after 5 minutes of 1 blaster turret shooting all it had, but we won and survived.
and the rest are tank repping but nothing really cool happened, just nonstop putting clarity sheild transporters on and every now and then a effincy remote repairer, I actully saw the lighting bolts go from the DS to the tank today!...then was shot down by a proto L compressed rialgun >.<
good times, good times.... looking back though it all has death....wow thats a surprise. |

Basically if your doing that with a dropship their is no proto AV on the field or forges most likely. Because they will rip you up pretty quick. It usually happens that only militant swarms are getting fired at the dropship and a bunch of noobs on the enemy team. It is totally unbalanced because you have a squad of proto gear runners and they are runnig around in militant gear.
Usually if you have a decent enemy team equal to your skill point lvl dropships do carry a strong presence on the battle field and are forced to run constantly making them ineffective.
I have had my gunners go 25 kills+ in ambush with my drop ship lately. |

Was gunning in a mate's DS. Rather uneventful flight, UNTIL enemy Surya dropped in the field. We went after him and boy, did he run like a chicken. That didn't help him though, near the enemy redline we got him with missiles. Ha ha ha. |

Went pubbing without a squad on Manus Peak, high buildings at Bravo. The enemy team had been so focused on sniping the crap out of blue dots at Alpha that I managed to do a few passes by the rooftop. Myroned one forger -- first blood -- and three snipers. Didn't take long for a forger coming to hunt me once he'd figured my pattern. After some hiding, dancing, route alterations, and blue distraction, I myroned that forger as well. By the end of the match reds had packed and left the rooftops, but not the base of Manus, they hadn't, which resulted in one more sniper myroned.
Manus again, blue gunners. Started off by blowing a railgun close to enemy redline with a guy manning it. The he went after me with militia swarms. After locating him I'd dropped a squad-sized blue force on him and, while he was desperately fighting infantry off, proceeded to land the final hit. Next thing he does is going after me with his Gorgon. Tried to ram me, but failed miserably. For the rest of the match we'd been harassing Bravo. Reds deployed a blaster Soma. We'd fled it first, then came back to finish it off - the tank was taking swarm fire while I've been going for the strafing run. By the end of the match half the enemy team switched to militia swarms and I had to grab some serious cover. 630 war points in the end with no defend order on.
Quite awhile ago, on Manus again, our crew had been sweeping the sniper nest north-west of Charlie. On the second pass I'd been flying fast and low to deploy troops quickly with no need to activate inertia dampeners, only to get two reds up there decapitated in quick succession. Wasn't even trying to pull it off, they'd just been standing on highest spots available.
Another fun situation was when our crew went against a forger on Ashland. He was occupying the Echo pipeline. We almost got him on the first pass. On the second we just sneaked up on him and smoked him before he could make a shot.
I've had two instances of having three orbitals dropped on me. In one I lost two aircraft to AV while not being careful, and the other went totally smooth.
As soon as I got my hands on prototype cycled missile turrets, I've been doing tank hunting. More often than not, tanks run if we manage to get a nice angle. Can get a nice explosion every once in awhile, too. Two days ago we've had a match on Skim Junction, high towers. Myroned two snipers at Delta with one landing, almost blew myself up, and then they called an AUR Gunlogi in. We'd chased it from the gates to the north of Alpha all the way to Delta, while he was moving in reverse and looking up trying to get us into his firing arc. Got himself stuck against a crate with predictable results. Then the tanker called his vehicle in again only to get himself forged to crisp before we could even get into firing position above him.
Works rather nicely if you have a tanker buddy nearby to coordinate anti-tank operations with. |

Oh, having red dots taking a missile to the face is just as fun from a pilot's perspective. But perhaps less risky than squishing, if gunners are proficient. Squishing is only necessary if there are no gunners on board, or if they can't hit a damn thing. |

I've determined that unless the dropship is practically completely still it's near impossible to hit anything. The gun doesn't aim where you think it should at all if you are moving even a little. |

I was talking about gunners with limited experience, not enough to effectively use missile turrets even if provided with stationary hover. Still, there are gunners that don't seem to have much trouble with adjusting their aim in accordance to momentum. Hard to come by though. |
