So I wouldn't be suprised if an upcoming map involves infrastructure for future PC maps. That said one of the things that CCP talked about is the advent of space elevators as the linking point between Eve and Dust.
That being said 'Space Elevator' isn't an exciting name.
What do we want to call these things?
My ideas/ things that have been mentioned:
[Sky/Space] [Crane/Tram/Port]
You could probably make some fancy acronyms also...

It shouldn't have an exciting name. Immortal space warriors wouldn't be excited by what is basically a big goods lift. |

They guy at the presentation said it's not a sexy name, and then this thread says it's not exciting. But in my opinion "Space Elevator" has always been a very exciting and aw inspiring name. An elevator . . . to space? F*** yeah!!! I like it. |

A personal favorite alternate name for it is 'beanstalk'. I think it was Heinlein who coined the phrase. |

I dont think the name is the best if they keep it, "space elevator" its sounds dated, like it was dreamed up by some 60's era astronaut. Might as well call fighters "air cars" although it is a minor point. |

space elevator is quite dated, how about Terrain to Orbit Elevator (TOE)  but really space lift/elevator explains what it does pretty well. its dated but it works |

None of the pictures show a true space elevator, which you wouldn't need for New Eden, since we've conquered gravity and stations don't need to orbit. A true space elevator would need a center of gravity at GeoStationary orbit, which is a lot higher than even the stations, let alone the district satellites or the Customs Offices.
So what you actually have is a docking station high enough to be out of the atmosphere, with a physical transit system to the surface. Like a pier for ships, it allows for easy docking of ships without the hazards of being close to the planet.
So, you could have a name that describes it from the ships' point of view:
Planetport
PlanetDock
Orbital Pier
GroundPort
GroundStation
Entry Port
Or you could have a name that describes the tower from the point of view of the ground:
Skyport
SkyDock
Up-Station
Towerport
Zenith Station
Skytrain
UpTrain
Tower Pier.
Just some ideas.

I just think you need something that people will find easier than Space Elevator, rather than something cooler/scifi.
TLAs are the easy bet in this category, as are names that shorten easily like Planetary Dock. That way people could just say dock and let context take care of it. |
