What role are you fighting as? I feel logis are better off using the high-slots to tank, dead logis are useless, and no one expects you to be killing every red in sight. Use it to scare off the enemy before attempting to revive someone .
If you're an assault who armor tanks, go for it. |

I am an assault who armor tanks :D
what I'm asking is if it has any effect to overall damage? |

i would suggest shield tanking it because you do less harm to yourself on the accidental shoot a team mate in the back. just tank it up instead of damage mods because you already do a lot more damage to armor just make sure you have a flux nade equipped. get up somewhere high if you are not a logi and shoot down.
Edit: Do not forget your nano hives |

If you are armor tanking, then yes a couple complex damage mods in the highs. Your EC-3 will have a lot more punch. Find where the reds are grouping, that's your bacon. Now, go get bacon. |

If you're an assault who armor tanks, go for it. This, I use all my slots for tanking, after all a dead logi is a useless logi.
And the base mass driver damage is pretty good anyway. |

A high end mass driver with a few damage mods is like a personal nuclear weapon. But you end up being kind of squishy. |

I would rather keep shield extenders than damage mods. You need as much tank as you can to absorb accidentally shooting yourself. |

On my good suits I run damage mods. I use assault mass drivers which tend to cause less damage to yourself if you clip something. |

Assault > Maybe, depends on how far away you plan to use it Norm > No, it's a strong baby Breach > Definitely not, you need tank to sustain fire while in CQC, plus it's a very spiked weapon (Low Splash Radius Dam, High direct Dam)
So overall, no, especially since it throws off aim. |

Assault makes a better anti rush weapon than actually getting kills unless you're in a coordinated squad. But you'll want to be at least 100m away or above your target. I've killed myself with the EC-3 more than any of the others just by misjudging the blast radius. The standard is what you're probably going to want to stick with for your regular mid range engagements. The EXO-5 is deadly and the Freedom only makes it easier. |

I run a few MD set ups so I'll let you know what I use and why.
Team support roll: Type-A Logistics suit with 3 shield, 2 armor, 1 repair, nanohive, nanite injector, repair tool, grenades, and an EC-3 Assault MD. Im really just team support so damage is not my main concern, survival is. With the blast radius on the assault MD it is good for flushing people out of cover for my team to kill.
Damage dealer: Type-B logistics suit, 3 complex damage mods, 2 armor repair, 1 armor mod, 1 nanohove, 1 nanite injector, EXO-5 MD. Yes it does a lot of damage with out the damage mods, but with them I 1-shot almost every assault suit. Most scout suits die if you get close and heavies drop after a few hits.
Damage mods do make a difference dont let people tell you they dont, its a simple question of weather or not you can hit them with direct hits. Practice, practice, practice getting direct hits with your MD rounds. A head shot will kill almost any one with an advanced MD, with 1+ complex damage mods you will kill with head shots. Keep in mind, your MD/newb tube is best used in a squad of people who you support by getting people to run from you and into the armies of your friends who will drop them fast.
Generally MD = lots of assists and few kills unless its an assault map with people crowded in one place where you cannot miss.
I hope this helps with your question. |

Instead consider using flux grenades. As many people already told you; most high tier players shield tank. So they have low armor. MD's do more damage to armor. So one flux and a few accurate charges will end any high tier player, not to mention obliterate low tier players.
Remember Flux Grenades are the most underrated weapon in the game!

Flux Grenades + Mass = Win
Usually it's much better to be tanked with a MD, however the Boundless can be an exception as it has a huge splash radius thus stacking extra damage becomes more useful. Be advised tho this is not a run and gun fit it's more of a suppression/artillery style fitting.

If your trying to rack kills with the MD, forget it. The weapon is for denying, and you get the most out of it while taking down enemies to together with someone else. I really don't think you should be using damage modes on anything but the high-end Assault, since 9.0 is pretty much unavoidable, you can afford to if you want. |

I've run a type-II assault suit with MD, 1 complex dmg, and an enhanced shield extender with shield regenerator and kinetic to good effectiveness. Key is aiming and getting direct or splash around barriers, corners. I do end up with a lot of assists unless there is a grouping in which case kills stack up.
This is best as a support and flank weapon. Let a HMG or AR take them down then finish with a suprise boom from the side. |

I'm guessing you have 2 armor repairs on your Type-A Logistics suit. I don't see the point of a support class that can't self-heal. |
