Honestly, I think the issue is more with the fact that it doesn't seem to factor in the effect of squads who are good at working together being able to deploy into matches together. |

After playing for a while, I learned when I should really, REALLY back out of a lobby based on team make-up. That is, if I don't want to experience a complete and boring curbstomp.
It's waaaay too boring to get pushed back to the redline halfway through the match and not leaving because "I NEED MAH SP!/HUMAN ENDURANCE!"
Not even drop-uplink runs help. Although I always thought something made them randomly disappear from deployment menus. |

if you have proto suit/weapons fitted up, REALLY shouldn't be getting put in a match with newbies (least, that's how a match maker is SUPPOSED to work, last time i checked)
the whole balance thing seems kinda important |

You know, i dont see them ever giving matchmaking a makeover any time soon. DUST is in the EvE universe, and if you suck at the game thats too bad... you should either look for a good corp or quit playing.
If you just started to play EvE right now, you wouldnt get a free boost in skill points so you are not 50million SP behind the ones who have been playing for 10 years. The matchmaking just needs to keep people within their own regions, or stick them in the best server available... and thats it.
To understand what im saying, just try an do PvP in EVE then come back... DUST isnt that bad, but it will eventually get there as they bring in stronger suits an weapons, and more destrucitve vehicles. |

Nah the only issue with matchmaking right now is that weve got alot of players that are used to militia fits which ofcourse makes it unbalanced but yes i do think they should separate the matches and put it into categories on the battle finder menu just to make it. More balanced |

Two things. first, DUST is not EVE. Even though the games are set in the same universe, they do not need to be a mirror image of one another. I sometimes really get a kick out of unfair and and challenging multiplayer. I like to prevail against seemingly impossible odds. So I do not object to all kinds of different flavors of fairness and balance in gameplay. But telling players to "look for a good corp or quit playing" is terrible. The game should give players enough room to learn and discover a good corp on their own without pissing on them when they're already down. There is a time and a place for that, sure. But it isn't instant battles. The HTFU or GTFO is not a great attitude to throw at someone for their first half an hour with the game. It is not a really great attitude for EVE, either, from what I have read. Which EVE are you talking about, when you say to try and do PvP in EVE?
Second, and more importantly, read this:
http://dust514.com/news/blog/2012/08/instant-battles-match-making/
CCP offered us fair and balanced fights. It is their idea as much as it is ours. If CCP had said that Instant Battle was going to be a bumpy ride, prepare to die, it is a trial by fire, fine. But they didn't. They don't seem to have achieved their own vision for Instant Battle. 76 to 0 curb stomps are only like the Olympics if you are talking some USA men's basketball vs. most of the rest of the world vision of the Olympics. |

this is not eve **** ****, this is a FPS, that means it is competing with BF/soontm 4 and the CoD franchises, the eve model for combat WILL not work if they want a PROFITABLE playerbase
(by all means make corp and nullsec battles hard as hell CCP)

Well gotta say Matchmaking is none existant but we all knew that ofcourse.
IT should really do just 1 thing, check for dedicated teams loading up and if there is no team on the other side put one there because right now it just stacks them whenever they que'd.
And no matter how good you are, solo or duo your not gotta stop a proto roll-over single handedly because there is just no more blue alive longer then 5 seconds and once they know its a total roll over, to put more hurt in it they drop 2-3 tanks just to be safe and not risk dying at all.
Lately theres just been 2 type of games, Rolling or Getting Rolled.
I really don't get it how the matchmaker thinks, dropping 3 teams in vs a Duo of 2 and 14 random blueberries is gonna be a good match, all it has to do is make it 2 teams vs 1 team +2 and it would be a whole lot better game.
I also wonder with PC, where its mostly best vs best, are these guyse even going to play it knowing they are facing better coordinated players and might drop their carefully sculpted KDR ? |

Why wouldnt it? Seems to working out just fine, only thing thats really making anyone leave is the lack of content (because its beta, but they are all slowly coming back like me because the new build is slowly approaching). Im sure they realise they are not going to steal all the BF3 and CoD fans... because lets face it, alot of them are still in middle school.
If CCP is smart, they will keep doing what they want and not what you think it should be. Either get with the best or die like the rest. |

I think having 2 modes, 1 if you have corp mates etc, and 1 for the whole match being solo's put together is the right way to go for pub matches. Granted, some would view this as a rip off of COD, but it's a good way for people who aren't in a corp learning the game, the opportunity to learn it without going up against 6+ guys in a corp curbstomping a pub match. And the potential for them to find a corp. |

For any matchmaking system to work properly, there needs to be a large playerbase playing the game actively. Dust is in beta, so I doubt it has it. Therefore imbalances are inevitable, no matter how accurate and reliable MM algorithms are. |

I do not find the matchmaking that bad and only a few matches end up in pumbstombing or whatever you are calling it. At least not in Europe when I am playing.
Most of the matchmaking issues is actually our own fault as players. I mostly play alone but do squad up with my corp from time to time. I check the roster and when a see certain squads on the other side like Seraphim Initiative or WTF I decide to only use cheaper outfits as I am going to die allot. The matchmaking system could have put allot of single players with equal skill up against the coordinated squad, but if we all early on decide to only use militia or standard stuff it will not end in our favor. The more we are killed the less likely it is that we would pick the expensive suits, it will only get worse and worse as the match progresses.
The same applies to the winning team, more of the randoms will pick their expensive suits as they see the risc of dying decreasing.
I have also been matches against the tough teams from i.e. SI and WTF which my team won and the opposing squads changed from proto to advanced or standard to limit the isk loss. It can go both ways and there is no guarantee that said elite squads will win.
It must be close to impossible to make a fair matchmaking system as it cannot factor in what isk amount each player is willing to spend on the coming match. I sometimes only run in militia to save isk and other times loose over 1mill isk on a single pub ambush match.
I have respect for the elite squads that run in proto in pubs and will continue to spawn in proto even after dying several times. They are not jumping out as soon as they meet resistance but try to the end to win the match. But being in a random team where we all have downgraded to militia against 6-8 proto players is like a slaughter house, which does happen but is rare.
The only thing I really really really hate is being spawned into the middle of roflpumbstomping? match and being spawn killed 3-4 times in a row as the opposing all proto and tank players have spread out over the small map and the remains of the defending team are in chaos.
I actually enjoy being on the loosing team being pushed back by the stronger team. Trying to work together with other randoms and setup defensive positions to hold back the invaders is fun. It does not always work but is nonetheless fun even if we loose the match. I on the other hand hate being on the roflpubstombing side, it is extremely boring running with the blob fighting over the kills with near zero risc of dying.
Do not underestimate us randoms as we can work together and put up a hell of a resistance and even win the match. |
