I know this has been discussed before, but I've really noticed it a lot in the last couple weeks.
This is a serious issue I hope will be resolved in Uprising, as its just not fun when you play against people from other regions knowing you are going to experience lag due to the geographical difference.
There are some outstanding EU and ASIA players and corps, but in some cases it has gotten to the point that I will be leaving matches when I see them on the other side, as they jump and skip around on my screen.
I have no doubt its a server thing, and its unfortunate because I enjoy playing talented groups, but talent PLUS choppy gameplay is just not fun.
I'm not UNICEF and don't donate ISK (the feeling I get when smashing someone just for them to sponge it all and their friend shooting me up)
has anyone heard is a solution in the works for this? |

I always thought that if you were squad lead and joined a game you would be somewhere relatively close to your region. And i need to be in my region... i have broadband, its just barely good enough to play on American servers. But someone was saying its done by population. If there isnt enough people in one region it will stick them in a server across the ocean, or somethn like that. |

There's no doubting that you'll find a few players in a game who consistently kill you, not because they're better equipped or skilled, but because your screen goes skippy every time you try to target them, or you damage output doesn't register - plain and simple - so I really share your pain on this - be assured the wider world outside NA also suffers from it.
Whether it's because they are playing from a different region, or have an awful connection, or something else completely, I don't have the facts and figures to say with informed confidence.
And I'm with you, the whole experience with respect to lag symptoms has taken a terrible nosedive in the last few weeks. In the past there'd be an ebb and flow, where some games felt like an even playing field, some even felt like lag was giving me an unfair advantage, but many felt like there was nothing I could do to contribute. Lately it's been awful - to the extent that very few games currently feel worth taking part in.
Unfortunately, I don't think this is really being treated as a serious issue. I love the potential of this game, and it deserves to succeed, but I watched the great Dust keynote presentation from Fanfest, highlighting loads of shiny new features and bells and whistles. And what did they have to say about the fact that core gameplay is so flawed that it's often not worth attempting to play?
"...and it will also be more performant."
If I'd been working hard to resolve these issues, I may have made a bigger fuss about all my work. I'm not convinced that this problem is being taken at all seriously.

The various region lag problems are indeed noted. However, recently CCP has been moving battles on a case by case basis to a more populated Regional Server. Where ever that server is will be added to the players existing lag. We have had entire squads and even teams having to Leave Battle as the game was just not playable with the lag that we were left at.
Hopefully CCP will be able to build some knowledge base about what is acceptable lag and what isn't so the worst conditions would be avoided in the future. Maybe even having Why added to the Leave Battle option.
We in the US have finally been handed the problem some of the other regions have been dealing with for a much longer time. Hopefully this is one of the problems that have had some effort put into for May 6th.
The particular players that are skippy and difficult to hit are using lag switches. Which is just a quick disconnect (a momentary switch to break then reconnect) on their Ethernet cable. This blocks the hit reply, they see the hit but prevent their client response acknowledging it. It is rampant throughout FPS gaming with any multiplayer functionality. Many multiplayer FPS gamers are K/D ratio obsessives and they would rather cheat than get killed or worse yet die by head shot. In DUST that can be expensive as well when running Proto gear and Officer weapons.
Let us know when you have fool proof solution for that as everybody in the FPS market would love to know about it. The lag switches, they already can get those by the bucket load.

You lost me at "Lag Switches".
Everything is server side, lag switching can only work in your favor if you are the host. And until someone posts proof that lag switching is really an issue in this game, i will continue believing its not an issue and the real problem is just the servers in general. |

Wow, I just played an awesome game - I felt I was in control of my character, the enemy were clearly in control of their characters - good fights all round. I've not had a match playing that smoothly in well over a month.
We were about to win when I was disconnected due to an internal error
Unfortunately, every match since has been the usual fare - I completely out-manoeuvre the enemy, I'm behind them with a loaded gun, they're unaware of my presence, but I *know* that opening fire will just alert them to my presence and they'll kill me, since the game won't let me damage them.
Monday can't arrive soon enough... |
