The damage listed for the AV grenades is for splash damage only; the actual damage to the vehicle is not published, but I know from using them that the level one version will kill a methana or saga in one to two throws. |

Yes, if only to fend off free LAV spammers.
Don't forget you also gain locus and flux grenades.

I use standard level Packed AV like a madman, LOVE those things, and if you get grenadier to lv3, the M1 Locust are a beast... really, the fact that you unlock 3 different grenades with one skill made the skill point investment worth it to me. |

If you really want to focus on an anti vehicle role you should spec into AV weapons, such as swarm launchers or forge guns. Go check out the militia versions of each to see which you prefer.

AV Grenades (particularly the Packed AV Grenades) are nasty, especially when supported by other AV weapons.
Bringing them with an anti-infantry fitting lets you fight on the front lines, and provide support for the AV guys where needed. Adding them to a fully AV-focused fitting gives you a last-ditch weapon you can drop if you can't afford the time you need for a reload, or if you're short on charge/lock time for your primary weapon against a charging LAV. |

i find that flux grenades are good against tanks but only good if you have a swarm launcher or a forge gun it all depends on the tank if it's shield then it my militia forge gun suite with flux if armor it's the starter fit with nano-hives and av greanades |

I have a nasty little AV scout with Packed AV Grenades. I can often seak down next to a tank that is hiding from long-range AV and either kill it or force it into the open. |

i use AV grenades a LOT, grenadier 4 so i'll try to sift through the "AV GRENADES IS OP!" and give you an honest assessment.
at the lower end, you're not gonna be fighting off tanks by yourself with them unless the enemy is dumb enough to hold still near one of your resupplies or nanohives. you just can't carry enough of them to threaten a tank. that being said, they're still quite useful against the countless free LAVs zooming around everywhere. lower tier grenades will likely require 2 hits to destroy them, but it's enough to make them second guess spending the entire game running people over.
at the higher end they're pretty good, i use EX-11 packed myself and it's started to reach the threshold where i can take out the shittiest HAVs by myself, and they consistently one-shot militia LAVs. but again, if it's a big boy tank and they're rampaging through your team, you're not gonna be able to take THEM out by yourself with just 3 EX-11s.
now what DOES make AV grenades excellent is that it's a fairly low impact piece of kit. your favorite fit will be a lot more "intact" if you replace the grenades with AV grenades, than if you replace your primary weapon with a swarm launcher or forge gun. that way you can "fulltime" a base amount of AV ability. if you play with friends, they can too. suddenly 3 or 4 guys that are ALWAYS on an "av" fit are a significant threat to enemy HAVs. you just need to coordinate and attack together. you run out of AV grenades quickly, and they have a short range so it's easy for the tank to get away if you give it a chance, but if 4 people are whipping their 3 grenades all at the same time, all but the best HAVs will pop. POP! not retreat, explode.
so they're not the answer to everything, but they're definitely a worthwhile piece to have. worst case scenario you're always prepared to help jump in on an enemy HAV and contribute some meaningful damage, even if you can't take it out yourself. i'd say it's absolutely worth skilling into, just know what you're getting. they're not magic. |

My buddy and I have scout suits with swarms and packed AVs. It's fun making tanks run from us. We shoot so many missles we blot out the sun.. and then finish him with the nades if he decides to charge us.
There's nothing quite like the bingo moment when you toss an AV nade over a blind hill and get a tank kill. Another fun use is if you can hit a low flying dropship. |

you're half right, the av grenades used to display their direct damage, and it was indeed 10X the current listings. but since then CCP has nerfed all AV equipment by about 25% across the board
so a more accurate way to calculate would be 10X the damage stated, then reduce that number by 25% (this is of course before any resistances the target has) |

If the methana was fit with nothing on it maybe..... im not sure if even three standard AV nades could kill a decent fit methana. one or two throws at a onikuma or balac would do, but according to what I read on the forums people think there was a ninja nerf to them recently.
AV grenades are great to have even at LVL 1 though, it makes it so that your more or less immune to road runners that do nothing more then.... well.... run people over all match (so long as your paying attention). If you want to get serious with them though, AV grenades don't get REALLY good until level three with the ADV ones, and there god like at proto lvl. Ive seen proto tanks crumble under well placed proto nades (albeit with atleast 5 or so). Of course its a tough decision though because flux grenades are equally useful depending on the situation..... |
