tried out a logistic-fit LAV(methana, shield transporter and remote reps) today to keep a friend's glass cannon tank in the fight(went pretty well, only thing that killed us was an orbital) Liked it until...
got 0sp and 8k ISK for that whole match, brought him from being on fire to full at one point.
please ccp, if you won't let infantry have points for healing vehicles, at least let other vehicles get it. I wanted to be a full medic(logistic with logistic vehicles) but after that match, I can see that using shield transporters and remote reps are but the fevered dream of a madman(you don't have enough cpu/pg to fit a proper tank and reps for yourself if you want to fix others.) |

This used to be possible, it was removed due to an exploit. People were damaging thei own vehicles out of battle and then repairing them.. being able to do that they could quickly build WP for orbitals. This is the reason your repair tools no longer grant points for repairing turrets. |

Lame. why not just do it like they do for suits, just make it so that if their shields/ armor(whichever you're recharging/repping) was damaged by weapon fire in the last 10-15-30 ish seconds you get points for it? just have the server run a check/flag that vehicle whenever they take damage from weapon fire and not a collision
then again, I'm sure people who can't actually play the game would find a way to abuse this as well. |

Whats so hard to implement the same mechanic from logis to vehicles? After a certain amount of WP you get a cooldown time. Oh and if we are allready at it. GIVE SHIELD BOOSTS ASWELL WP NOT JUST ARMOR REPAIRS! |

GIVE SHIELD BOOSTS AS WELL WP NOT JUST ARMOR REPAIRS! The problem that existed before was you could drive a LAV into an Installation and damage both. Then you jump out with your Repair Tool and fix them both. Your solution would simply limit the amount of the exploit and we would be back to Mercs driving LAVs into Installations, other LAVs and walls just to get the WP.
You can rep Vehicles and Installations*. You won't get WP for it. I do it all the time as I love ticking off the Militia Swarmers that are tying to knock out a Supply Depot or a Turret because I can fix it faster than they can knock it down.
On the Shield front if you look into the Vehicle Modules there are already two Transporter Modules Classes. One is for Remote Repair of Armor and the other is for Shield. It might be worth considering but you would have to be fast for a Merc. A Heavy Type II with 350 shield repairs quickly which is the entire reason for running them in the first place.
For Vehicles the Shield Repair uses a bunch of power so the only solution is to install the module on a vehicle. I have a LAV setup with both and I have run with a Spider Tank that someone else had Fitted up. This would work for Installations as well I believe.
* Turrets can be difficult to get started. If you want to do it this is how I was shown: Aim at the center near the top. Then slowly bring the reticule down to the bottom center. If you hear the familiar connection sound you are repairing. However, the armor value will not go up until you disconnect. I just look at the health bar so see if it is finished. Turrets 3,000hp, Supply 15,000hp, CRU 30,000hp. |
