So I know there have been some chit chats on the forum about the cloak and how it would work, so I decided to post a pretty cool future superstition about how the cloaking device would be like, and I would love some feedback.
Cloaking Device Marketplace > Equipments > Cloak > Cloaking Device
Cloaking Device (Standard) Type: Active (R2 + Select Type) Slot: Equipment CPU: 30 PG: 45 (Random CPU & PG numbers, you tell me if they are wrong) Sight Range: 20< mts (< = Below) Duration: Infinite Stamina Drain: 10/s while active (Stamina cannot be regenerated while active, you still can run though, not so far) Cooldown: 5 Seconds (After Usage)
What is the Sight Range?
Sight Range is some kind of nerf for the already OP infinite invisibility. When I mean 20 mts and below, means that enemies that are 20 meters or closer to the guy using cloaking device will be able to see him. Let me put an example: Soldier A is using Cloaking Device, Enemy Soldier B is 19 mts away from Soldier A, Soldier B haves sight on Soldier A, Soldier C is 22 mts away from Soldier A, Soldier C is 2 mts next to Soldier B, Soldier C haves no sight on Soldier A whatsoever.
So I think that explained pretty much.
What is Stamina Drain?
Another nerf for the OP inifinite invisibility, while Cloaking is active, you will get the amount stated of stamina drained Per/s. You still will be able to run, but your stamina will not be regenerated while Cloaking is active, meaning you will have to turn it off to regenerate it. If the stamina runs out, the cloaking device will turn off.
What happens if I shoot while invisible or if I get shot while invis?
If you shoot while invisible, you will still be cloaked, but the effects of the gunfire and the sounds will be heard. And if you get shot while you are cloaked, you will be under the effects of invisibility until your shield breaks and you got left the armor. So it means that if you get shot by an enemy sniper that have seen the effects of your sniper shooting, and your shield goes down to 0 but you still have some armor, your cloaking device will turn off, and you wont be able to turn it on again until you have some shield back up. (Note: It doesnt drains shield, only stamina while active, please dont get me wrong on this one)

Its not really that imba, the cloaking device have already tons of ups and downs, but mostly downs, since the perma invis is totally considered bullshit. But think about it, unless you are a scout who can regen stamina in like 3 seconds, you wont be able to run alot, since the constant stamina drain of the shield will annoy you when you try to run. And if you get spotted and try to run, you have like 2 choices: 1- Run, finish up my stamina, get visible for enemies, get shot down. 2- Try to walk, probably getting more bullets than running, and finish off your shield, putting your cloaking device off, and not back up until you have some shield.
So I'd prefer having a low cooldown, since activating the Cloaking device is already a total pain in the ass.
Now Im going to show you a Prototype Cloaking Device
Ishukone Cloaking Device (Prototype) Type: Active Slot: Equipement CPU: 35 PG: 50 (Random) Sight Range: 10< Mts Stamina Drain: 2 p/s While active Cooldown: 5 Second (After usage)
Now this is something I would get on some nova knife fan killer, I dont think that anyone would even have the time to react to a scout with nova knives that is 10 mts away from you running at max speed. ;)
Well anyways, I hope you liked this suggestion, this thread isnt anything about "Yes, Cloaking is coming in the Uprising" No, this is just a suggestion to people talking about how Cloaking would be, so its more like my two cents.

The sight range is too high and makes maintaining stealth with the cloak impractical in close-quarters infiltration when there is a merc in almost every corner like Starbucks. Also, even at 10 meters it is still a long distance to travel even for a dedicated nova knifer because a good merc will turn around at the last moment and just shower the scout with plasma rounds (scout suits are very squishy) and I have seen plenty of assault mercs turning around on me right before I attack causing me to lose my element of surprise.
Stamina drain will hardly have any impact at all because a prototype scout fitted with complex cardiac regulators will have a stamina amount of 1788.9 with a recovery rate of 132.1/sec. With your recommended drain rate of 10/sec, it will take 178.9 seconds (or almost 3 minuts) to completely drain your stamina. And a smart cloak user will remember to conserve stamina since being cloaked will eliminate the need for sprinting and will likely hold off on enabling the cloak until he/she is close to the destination/target. In addition to that, one can simply tap the L3 button to go into an emergency sprint while slowly recovering stamina as their cloak is cooling down. Therefore, causing stamina drain will be a moot point.
CCP already hinted on their dev blog that active scanners will be the proper counter to the cloak. |
