Quote:There are two types of players when it comes to games.
The ones who prefer even footing, a fair match everytime.
This type of player, after playing FPS's for 2 decades does not excist, its the lochness monster everyone keeps talking about it, but noone has seen it.
Players will use every little advantage they can get, even if the game is on even footing like you say they will either.
closet hack (on pc), or use the flavor (op) weapon/ build of the month, play in dedicated teams on public games, use moderate glitches to get a small advantage or use turbo (rapid fire) controllers to negate all/most recoil of a weapon.
Or moan about it on the forums, if said advantage is not on their side.
People also like to think they are THE GOD of fps games, then blame it on everything else when they get their butt kicked, good players know their limits, what they can, bad players blame it on the game.
Yesterday a friend of mine after months me nagging about it tried it out, he lasted 1 hour, he is also horrible at FPS games but thinks he can magically compete with 2 decades of FPS experiance.
Then when the scores are in 20+/0 against his 1/10, everyone including me must be hacking their PS3, the game is crap, i got more skill, my proto gear is is the cause of my awesomeness.
Fair enough i swap to a new character with 500k sp and run a 17/3 against a dedicated team in Militia gear and kill a couple of protos in the process, he gets 0/12 and rage quits the game.
His Ego couldnt take it i guess.

Quote:Valid points, but I meant to make a reference to the difference say between BF3 and Dust. BF3 everyone has the same HP, movement speed, gun selection ect. It is a more fair match because every player is met with the same constraints. To some this is much more appealing.
Dust allows players to compete with a different set of constraints. Those who start and don't see the potential to build, but instead focus on how the matches are unfair will never enjoy a game like this. Dust will attract those who can accept that war isn't always fair, and sometimes you are going to die due to superior gear and SP, even if you managed to outplay your opponent.
[Granted as someone who plays with 8.3mil SP and a 1.5mil SP alt character there is not as big of a difference as most people think]
The skill in BF3 and Cod series is too much compressed to the point everyone can get kills, when 1 - 2 bullets can kill to the torso it does not take allot of solid aim whereas trying to kill a guy in a proto while wearing a proto and cover is abundand the one with the better stratigic point / experiance will eventually win, not the guy who gets the first spray&pray in, altough if hes wearing 4 damage mods and a Viziam your face is gone really fast.
But yeah i can guess that to many that appeals, to me i like to build my character overtime BF3 & Cod gets boring really fast. But most People love easy, especially easy kills and don't want to be put against Veterans because like i said, they loose their advantage.
On PC shooters where Hacks run abundant i get around 5-8 pm's an evening playing (3 hours) how i need to get a life and need to get good without using an Aimbot, trigger bot, wallhack etc ...whatever keeps their EGO's safe by telling themselves i must be hacking.
On Dust where they realise, there are no hacks, its the game, gear, sp that sucks, if you have never played shooters on PC, playing for the first time on PS3 really made my eyes open up at how bad the hacking problem really is on PC and how poor most players skills really are.
I also got 4 friends that hack on PC (togglers) and don't want to play dust because they can't use their aimboits on here.
Toggler: Someone who when they are winning, play using their own skill but when they start loosing toggle the cheat on.
Its pretty sad.
