When you create a game, you can name your character whatever you want, but this is not your game, this is CCP's game, and if they find that your name could be offensive to others, then they have the right to change it as they see fit. For once, that silly acronym applies. Bunch of pansies! The word "Auschwitz" is the name of the N A Z I death camp (now a museum) in Germany that reportedly killed more Jews during WWII than any other such camps. It's not just a name.
The AK-47 may have possibly been used in more wars and have killed more people than any other assault rifle in the world. Does this mean I cannot use it at all in any sort of naming? (I didnt here but I usually use the AK power somewhere)

You're aware that certain place names take on symbolism based on major historic events that occur there, right?
You're aware that there is no place called "AK-47" which has done so, right?
You're aware that there is also no place called "Commander" which has done so, right?
If you're going to make comparisons, make RELEVANT comparisons. Auschwitz is a name associated VERY strongly with the events that happened there. And those events were horrific, and bringing them up can be not merely offensive, but potentially traumatic for some people I know, so I'm sorry, but you don't have an argument. Please try again. |

CCP has had rules for names for a long time in Eve for a reason. Complaining about censorship in a realm where even the slightest of offensive words is " **** "d out is pointless. You knew they didn't put up with vulgar or potentially offensive language being publicly displayed if you'd ever read the rules of the forums. Being offensive in no way improves your gaming experience other than for your own amusement, and when that amusement has the potential to make others uncomfortable it becomes a potential liability. And CCP has no interest in keeping around a potential liability when it is entirely unnecessary in any way.
TL;DR: Quit being a whiny ***** about it, it has nothing to do with the game. |

1. Try re-reading the OP.
2. Look at the name being used as an example of an offensive character name.
3. Type the only word from the name which has a capital letter into your search engine of choice.
4. Realise why the name was offensive.
For many people, step 2 leads directly into step 4, and there is no need to follow step 3, but if you're unsure of the problem after step 2, you might need to brush up on your history. |

I understand people being against censorship, but censorship on a public gaming forum, where impressionable people can freely view player names, and censorship akin to Chairman Mao's reign over China are two different branches of two wholly different trees.
Take for example, (I have nothing against any body of people, btw) I made an alt called, 'Yanks are stereotypically stupid' or 'party on 9/11', people would be rightly up in arms, and so they should be.
Censoring information in the forums of news reports, radio broadcasts, et al, is wrong, a game on the other hand is not.
CCP is not a democracy, and we do not vote on their rules, so either abide by them or sadly gtfo. |
