what was that about dust and eve teams being independent and doing what's best for THEIR game????
It's not just about not screwing up EVE, it's about not screwing up DUST as well. We have teams that work on both projects, like the team I am on. We touch both EVE code and DUST code. I personally go to the EVE daily design meetings and am kept in the loop of what they are doing just as they are kept in the loop on what we are doing. We are not say "only do what is best for one game or the other" and neither are we saying "only do what is best for the combined game." We are trying to make all three products, DUST, EVE, and DUST/EVE awesome. The games have to be able to stand on their own, but we also want an awesome and meaningful link between them.
couldn't yall make a seperate dust market then that's seperated from eve and go from there?
having static prices isn't very eve-universe~ish |

Yes, this is why our identities in EVE and DUST are a secret, to you the players. So you don't know who we are and go asking and tempting us to do stupid things.
We have an internal affairs division, they know who all our characters are, and they watch them very closely to make sure we don't cheat. |

Last I heard, it was stuff like faction specific high end loot that was one of the main motivators for sticking to a faction, another possibility being faction Loyalty Points (LP) which you would earn by participating in FW battle and LP stores where you would trade the LP for powerful faction specific gear. The motivation in both being that to earn the best version of what you want, you would need to keep playing for the faction that gives you it.
The above is mostly old, probably out of date info and speculation and should be treated as such.
There is ofc RP and RL motivators - RP being that you hate the Amarr slavers and will therefore fight for the Minmatar. RL reasons being that you hate (for arguments sake) the Imperfects, who have aligned themselves with the Caldari, so you go and fight for the Gallente. |

There are plenty of differences and we can make it as different or similar as we want. The discussion should be about what we think those differences and similarities should be, not what the must be just because the other game has it that way. These are two games, we must do what is best for each as they play very differently.
One difference should be the perspective of news reports. The right watches Fox the left watches MSNBC. Why would a Merc read news reports biased towards EVE players?
Go watch Cowboy beebop. The bountyhunters had their own special bounty hunter channel....wouldn't mercs have their own news channel?
You guys are MMO roleplaying developers....and you choose to put the role playing and lore and story telling into the game.....well lets see some roleplayer writing that actually fits the role play of Dust Mercs. |

You stick with a faction, they see that you're reliable and trustworthy, they give you more jobs and pay you more. However, if you work for everybody and do well, everyone wants a piece of you and will pay whatever sum to get it. |

I like this idea CCP has for us mercs. All factions see us basically as "guns", you don't buy a gun and ask: "Who has been shot by this gun before? Anybody I know?" (Well IRL you might ask). I'll fight for you with 100% dedication while you pay me, if at the end of our contract you decide not to rehire me, then you understand that I will be a free agent and possibly fighting against you the day after my contract expires.
Also, how dare you people make CCP Foxfour answer real questions about real Dev related things?! We already have people that do that, they are called "everybody but Foxfour"

Maybe we should be able to choose free "faction fittings" when we engage in FW battles. The level of the suits could increase as we engage in more battles for that faction as they become sure we can be trusted with the expensive stuff. |

As for LP for fight? We are not introducing LP in Uprising. That does not mean never, just we have other priorities for now. |

Is there going to be a devblog soon explaining why anyone should want to participate then? I was under the impression fighting for a certain faction enough gave access to certain gear and that it would be a Day One sort of deal. Without that, I see little incentive to actually playing FW.
I think CCP forgets sometimes that the majority of people don't really care about the lore or which faction wins what--it's the rewards we're interested in. |

I like the idea of fighting for the side that pays the most
Squad leaders should choose the side that pays the most based on the people in the squad
Hard part would be deciding how to determine which side would pay the most, cant be a set isk value, could be a multiplier?
Based on skill level, keeps the teams balanced, the higher your skill level the better your expected pay (AFKers would slowly get less and less pay for games)
Based on faction loyalty, adds depth, but means your stuck to one faction
Based on which side needs the merc the most at that point, values would alter during the picking stage, some would get forced to a side due to space at the end of the picking phase, would add in a nice hold off selecting a side to see if the contract value would increase
Not sure how it could be implemented but im eager to see the plans |
