The secret to learning DUST? You've got to get angry at it. You've got to hate it. Let your rage be your instruction manual.
You've got to play the @@#%# out of DUST! Play it until your PS3 starts to die -- and just before the hard drive stops spinning; put your foot through the PS3 so you can stand up and yell, " I broke it!" -It didn't break on you! Then go buy another one.
Reinstall DUST 514 for the 6th time because of the corrupted file messages. Login and start playing. Don't bother reading the email! It's the same one that wasn't there the last time. (Kinda like your fittings, go figure.)
Don't let their 7 redline sniper-foreheads keep you from respawning for the hundredth time in the match. You're no Quitter. (There's no sense in shooting them anyways , they just turn blue.) What do you care? You are an immortal clone whose only flaw is big huge clown feet that keep getting stuck on on every microelevation in the game -- a small price for immortality! Rejoice!
What are 5 enemy tanks in a public ambush match when compared to a 2-hour old character who knows how to harness his anger?! The endless parade of Heavies who shoot bullets from out of their eyes will be no match for your noob-rage! 3 of your teammates haven't left the MCC in 10 minutes? 4 are sniping from behind the same rock and the others are busy racing dune-buggies? More glory for you and your two silent squad mates, I say!!
As soon as the one humping the leg of your female scout suit moves away, your screen will stop violently jittering up and down and you will be a force to be reckoned with!
They can take our Aurum but they'll never take our FREEEEEEEEDOM!

Yeah, man. It's come a long way but they still need to work on it quite a bit -and they are. It's important for CCP to hear comments like yours and I'm glad you took the time to articulate your point. For, what it's worth you likely won't have to skill up as far as you think to begin to feel competitive (minus the occassional proto'd out pubstomping groups). Give it some more time. There are some vets here that can be caustic as hell but the vast majority go out of their way to help new players, and give clear answers to clearly posed questions. If you do bail, don't delete your character...keep an eye/ear out for DUST; and try it again later. |

. This is a FPS but not like the COD and its ilk. In those games you get a gun and can do just fine in your first match with basic gear. This is not that game. Playing it like it is does not work.
I have bad gear. my SP is in drop ships not in gun game. I do just fine with LESS skill points in gun game than you get when you start a new character. Not great but fine. I use STD gear. Here is my style :
1) I Identify the stronger geared players. - Watch the feed. If i see a single player kill 3 guys in a row with a Duvelle gun I avoid engaging that player - Look at the market and learn the names of the high level weapons. See those in the feed, careful of their owners. 2) I play behind the stronger players and let them lead, even if they are going in a direction I think is dumb. 3) I stay with the group/squad. 4) I do NOT engage a PRO or often ADV suit. If i engage and seem to be doing only a little damage I disengage. 5) I am useless on my own so never stay alone. 6) I do NOT let the red mist get me. If a guy almost gets me and I almost get him and he runs, I do not chase him unless supported. Let him go. 7) Even if you see an easy target on his own, let him be if you are not supported. 8) I avoid open places. Keep to cover. 9) If in a fight he is almost dead but so am I and he ducks to reload, I often let him go and fall back behind the team. Let the team kill him. I am weak and need to back of when I am vulnerable.
Great post overall; I'd like to copy this part and put it on our corporation forums if you don't mind. Credit to you. |
