I started this weekend and have struggled quite a bit with the aiming mechanics versus BF3. Glad to know there are others that are having trouble aiming. Of course that isn't as bad as chucking grenades when I am trying to switch weapons. :) |

ive felt like just deleting dust and giving up at times ...specialy after you get the drop on some1 and nail 48 militier bullits into his metal head only for him to turn around and nail me..i could of smashed my controller but i stayed calm
Good lord is this game complicated. Still can't decide between ground breaking and over cumbersome mess....

I think a lot of that is poor hit detection.
Once you play a bit more, you get familiar with how many bullets should do damage, but instead do none when they hit. You can shoot them in different places for the damage to register (ie above their head, in front, w/e)
Hopefully they'll fix hit detection. If you unload 48 bullets into someone's face, you should kill him (just do the math!) |

There is some really good advice here for New Berries. Regardless if they have played an FPS or not.
I would add a few items. The free, in Starter Fit drop suits, Assault Rifle has 48 rounds in the clip. The tier 1 AR has 60 and it made my life expectancy go up dramatically because those 12 rounds will actually finish off a Red in many cases where a reload will get you very dead. Granted that it cost 4K ISK. But staying alive is worth something and one normally makes > 100K for an entire Skirmish round, sometimes much more. If you are already a great shot than you don't need 60 rounds and you probably don't need my advice.
The other bit is when you are watching YouTube videos of 37/1 ambush matches by some Monster Dust player be aware of how many times they will shoot Reds in the back, from the side, from above, already low on shields & armor, while the Red is distracted shooting someone else and only rarely will they engage one on one and face to face. The earlier you learn that lesson the more fun you will have learning DUST.
The specs for many weapons are pretty flat from lowest to highest. Try them out, find the ones you like and Skill Up! The higher your Skill with that weapon type the lower its main drawback will be. Kick for AR, scope sway for Sniper Rifles and so on.
Good Luck. |

Thanks for all the replys! I thought I would update how I am doing. I decided to go for the HMG heavy suit style and I am now doing really well and my aiming has greatly improved. Just over the course of time it does get better. So thanks everyone for the help, I hope other new players can learn from this thread. |

Nice post ^.^ I totally agree with the AR upgrade to basic. You can pwn in the starter fits, but by making a few changes you can have a bit more survivability. I just didn't want people to think that the starter fits are bad beyond use :P
When I was testing it out, the AR swap was what I was worried most about. It turns out that it's not too bad if you can place head shots, but you cannot spam it as much as the 60round AR.

Yah. IMO for skill play, the videos of corp battle matches are the best to watch. Especially if you want to see group play instead of solo. They might be slightly more boring than the high k/dr vids, but there is plenty of good information in them. |
