Just saw this here: http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/gdc-2013-dust-514s-uprising-update-conquers-your-ps3-on-may-6/
"Not only will what's already there look better, but new things like foliage, atmosphere, and weather effects are being added. Ships in orbit that are firing orbital strikes be visible to those on the ground. Players should also see things in a whole new light -- literally -- as day/night cycles will also be implemented to increase the sense of realism. And as for realism, Fannar noted that these cycles (along with the direction of the sun and the shadows) will be accurate to the actual rotation of the specific planet within EVE."
WOW! I didn't realize that was even a possibility! That would be AWESOME!! (Plus, it also answers my question on another thread about how we are going to shoot them down if we can't see them :P)
What do you guys think of this? Is this legit? |

From what I heard from CCP, its just going to be brackets in the skybox that signify that starship(s) are present. |

So which FPS game exactly is it that lets players in a space-based game appear above the planet, visible in the FPS gamers' night sky, and rain down destruction? Because while I'm open to be corrected, I'm pretty sure that hasn't been done before... |

Also, this is an announcement for what's coming IN THE NEXT BUILD, not for content we already have. It's going to show up alongside the Planetary Conquest system.
And that ties into the day/night cycle. Different planets will have different rotational speeds and your day/night cycle will be tied to the planet's rotation, and the light in the sky during the day will depend on the type of star you're orbiting. Any games where that happens? |

What's the space game that Space Invaders is linked into? 3. If there really is another game, how come all the players move in formation back and forth in front of the guy on the ground letting him shoot them? |

Dust still needs lakes and ocean as well as forest maps and other temperate planet terrain. If not, why not just go with the dry eve planets instead? Please at least tell us you have a long term plan for this...
The water doesn't have to be to deep it could just be a river at least, with trees and stuff. Also in longer maps is there a chance the daynight cycle will happen during the fight? Please?
If ships get blown up above can that trigger random debris drops based on mass like in the live event? Just as a cute touch?
But come on, in the new build you will be able to watch the orbital come from the correct location in the space box, The shot will come in an angle now. It's going to be amazing. |

The lakes could be formed from methane and other gases on nontemperate planets. Hydrothermal vents and volcanos would be badass also. |

The way Joystiq worded the article was a bit off. Having the real, fully modeled EVE ships flying in orbit above us would be a massive task, and technically hard to do. What CCP has said is that they will add an icon of sorts to signify that an EVE player is up there and ready to bombard people down below. CCP has also talked about adding foliage to the game, but a day and night cycle? That's something I've either missed or is just speculation. Anyone can have a link to a Dev confirming this? |

I'm imagining pockets of helium venting out of cracks in the ground, and if you jump in those areas you jump higher. Is this possible? |

There are trillions of planets (IRL not eve) out there i'm sure some have it and I like the idea although I was thinking of them going off randomly and having negative effects. |

The day/night cycle will probably be exclusive to Planetary Conquest - at least for now, but there will be night battles in other gametypes as well. Basically, when you control a district, the map will be lit differently based on your current angle in relation to the system's star. |

Wrong gas. ;)
I think you're thinking of H, not He, which is really rather inert. Although, most of earth's helium is apparently found in natural gas deposits, so, there's that. 'Cause THAT stuff definitely goes "kaboom." |
