I only have one problem with laser rifles, and I'm curious if it's all in my head.
When you shoot the ground or a wall, does it build up damage, or is it only when you're on target? |

Intended or not, damage is dependant on time-on-trigger rather than time-on-target. |

Make it only build up on target, increase base damage, increase rate at which damage builds up. Max damage should be the same as it currently is. |

I originally thought the damage build up was because our suits were unable to dissipate the heat fast enough, but apperantly the damage build up is related to the heat build up.

The LR is intended to increase damage with heat. Heat is intended to build up while firing. There is no indication anywhere that it's supposed to only build up heat or damage while on target. Please, don't post falsehoods. It only detracts from discussion. |

Once a long time ago (back in closed beta) I came across a thread that mentioned that once upon a time CCP Wolfman told people in IRC that the damage formula was something like:
Damage = Base Damage + 0.6 * shots fired
This is third hand anecdotal evidence so take it with several grains of salt.
As a long time laser user I'm pretty sure that damage build up it based on time on trigger not target. |

Getting rid of the overheat wouldn't do anything anyway- by the time you get to the ELM-7, it's impossible to overheat.
The only LR I have a problem with is the viziam, and it still isn't as bad as people would lead you to believe- it's just the cramped ambush maps when they're extremely effective. Otherwise, snipers kill them fairly easily; the big beam telling you where the shooter is helps a lot. |

Well, the description gives a definite lore explanation or the increased damage over time, so it's meant to be time-on-trigger.
That's good news for a potential laser turret for my dropship. |

i think the laser rifle was made based on bad threories. the descripsion was written for the game mechanics rather than the game mechanics were made to fit lore/science of lasers. the laser does not do more damage becuase its on the target like it should. the laser rifle mechanics were made first base on a simple mathematics then the descripsion was made up to explain the mechanics which is why to agrue, with lore freaks, why the laser mechanics don't work like they should is pointless. btw anything past 25% heat shouldn't have increased damage and anything over 75%heat should have decreased damage based on lore written for it. |
