So far I have recently squaded with a couple of fellow knifers out there since I am now spending my time wanting to train people personally (mainly for my Corp) since we have expanded so much especially with new players.
The first Knifer I paired up with during the past week was with a fellow Corp mate who was new to the whole knifing profession. Knowing that he will die a lot along with me, I recommended that he put together a cheap ninja fit with with either the BPO militia suit or the type-1 scout. The type-1 scout is usually best to start off with for those on a budget as it offers a decent amount of PG and CPU while having at least two low slots so that you can mix in a kinetic catalyzer with a cardiac stimulant or replace one of them with a profile dampener. The type-1 will allow more room for fittings because the militia stuff is usually inefficient with cpu and pg when it comes to fitting them. A standard nova knife is also recommended to keep cost down but you can still kill your target so long as you melee immediately after. Since melee takes up stamina, it's important to have the cardiac stimulant fitted. if you can afford to spend $20 on a merc pack and get your hands on the blueprint original modules using aurum, you can cut the cost down to almost nothing per match. It's because of this cheap setup I was able to maintain at least 6-7 million isk on my wallet which means I still have more than enough isk to splurge for the prototype fits.
Anyways, as we entered e match, I decided to be the bait and let my partner follow me some distance behind. This way if an enemy merc is hiding around a corner then I will provide the distraction while my partner takes advantage of the kill. Having a partner also helps when your initial strike doesn't kill your target but you have softened up the target just enough for the partner to come in a finish the job. I ended up with no kills but my partner ended up with 3 or 4 kills because I was always the bait. In addition to that I also showed him a few key routes to take in Line Harvest in skirmish and I think one other map that I forgot.
In my second time squading up I teamed up with someone outside the Corp who already knew a thing or two about knifing. We also had a third player in the squad who was a dedicated spotter looking out for any snipers. The map we went into was Ashland in skirmish and it was not all that well. We kept getting split up because the complicated layout of the structures and installations made it all too easy to be broken up as a knifing pair while being constantly surprised by a random heavy or assault popping out of a corner. I don't think we won that map and I had only one kill and that was against a sniper perched on the L-pipe after I chased him up the latter. My knifing partner got at least 10 kills but that was mostly from using remote explosives on the objectives.
The following match was on Skim Junction in skirmish which I hate the most to be honest. Because it is such an open terrain, it is relatively easy to be shot by a random sniper. We spawned on the west side and we decided to split up this time. The knifing partner would attack players in the center of the map since he is used to close quarter confrontations while the spotter would keep an eye out for snipers as I sprint along the edges of the map wanting to kill said snipers. We managed to spot two of them perched on the northeast hill right by the corner of the red line overlooking The E objective. After several failed attempts to get rid of them, I managed to kill them both by surprising them from behind as usual. Once again, every team seems to have a habit of leaving their rear absolutely unattended which is why I was able to get to them from their own side. It wasn't easy at first, but I got to them eventually. Near the end of the match, my knifing partner decided to go all Grand Theft Auto on the enemy's ass and run them over as much as possible. I swear, running people over with LAVs is so much fun.
Well, that's all for now. If any of you feel like teaming up every now and then, let me know. |

mollerz wrote:Hey Maken! I saw you in a match last week rocking a proto scout suit. I was on the red team, but it was hilarious to see you run into a squad of mercs and make them panic.. You were jumping around as they fired all over the place.. I had to deal with a firefight and couldn't see if you killed anyone, but you went running away with some shield intact leaving a very disorganized squad in your wake. They ended up getting cut down right after. All I have to say is it was was a pretty sweet scene. and it almost got me killed becaus ei had to stop for a second and watch I had just read your previous diaries and I wasn't sure if your figured out the jumping, charging in mid air, and then hitting timing? Is it possible? The reason I ditched knives was the lack of being able to sprint and charge them. That was a deal killer for me, but it's been fun reading your exploits. I wonder what the new build holds in store for Novas.
I have that effect on people.
In regards to the sprinting, you can do that now by doing the following. Melee+R1(hold). CCP plans to refine that glitch so that it will be automatic instead of having to do a combo. |

The fact that CCP or any Devs actually take this guys post seriously is the pinnacle of why this game has so many problems. Nova Knifing is not role, nor is worthy of 10000 characters. In my opinion, this post is unconstructive and should be immediately removed.
I just received a phone call from someone living under a bridge. He wants company so I referred him to you. |

Guys, I know this may come as a surprise for you, but leave WE LOVE Regnum alone. I don't have any beef with him and neither should you. Besides, I get the feeling he's just wanting to troll bait us into derailing this thread without realizing it. So let him keep swimming on that side of the pond if he wants to. |

@VLIGHT5
If you want to take full advantage of the knives, I recommend the Minmatar. That's where I'm going for tomorrow. I would only recommend the Gallente for the stealth approach and breaking through redline situations. |

@Sontie
It's down to personal preference on how I want to fit my modules. Some matches just give me bad luck and I end up with 0/6 or 2/11 at worst while some matches I can go 4/2 or 8/6 at best with only one match out of like fifty-something in which I get 13 kills. So this just tells me that it hardly matters if I fit shield extenders unless of course you're using Ishukone Nova Knives and are benefiting from the Minmatar Scout Bonus towards melee/knife damage. At that point, you can go right ahead and fit shield extenders so long as your knive can compensate for the lack of damage modules.
As an added note, the Ishukone Nova Knives deal 200HP which (coupled with double strike) equal to at least 400HP before bonuses or modules are applied. Then there is the 0.8sec charge time that it has. Again, if you can fit this baby then I highly recommend your idea of fitting for extra shields. Just make sure you have enough PG/CPU for speed and maybe an active scanner. |

Cheshire Cat24 wrote:You still need to answer the question that's on all our minds: Is the Way of the Ninja a viable build? I want to know if I can consistently be helpful to my team, instead of just draining clones and boosting the enemy's confidence :p
As long as you stick to the following, it's a viable build at this point. If you had asked me during Chromosome I would have answered with a straight up "no".
1. Pick your battles carefully (active scanners will help you here).
2. I can already kill a handful of people with just the ZN-28 with enhanced damage mods. If you can get your hands on the Ishukone Nova Knives and stick with Minmatar scout suits plus the Minmatar Scout Bonus, you can get away with ignoring the damage mods and fitting shield extenders as Sontie recommended.
3. Avoid open areas as much as possible (this is not a substitute for your assault).
4. Learn the terrain as quickly as possible.
There was a rumor I heard just today in which someone from PFBH managed to kill 30 players with the knives with very little to almost no deaths. If this is true, then this just confirms the weapon's viability in Uprising and will only be amplified once the cloaking modules come into the market.
Even at my level, I don't die too badly. The worst I had was 11 deaths and that was in a pub match when everything was stacked against me. On average, I die about 4-6 times a match. |

I'm still very trepidatious as to whether or not I should sink all my hard-earned SP into stabby-stabs, but the potential to be a "That one nova knifer guy" guy is very tempting. And the cloaking modules? I think I'll crumple from the pure ninja sexiness of it all. Night maps soon please?
If you're not sure, just stick with Minmatar Light Frame M/1-Series suits and experiment with a few militia fits. Also, experiment with different control layouts. The Legacy layout is good for preventing you from looking down at your shoes while turning tight corners to kill a merc but you'll have to get use to looking up an down on the R3 stick and left and right on the L3 stick. Hold off on the Minmatar Scout Dropsuit skill book until you feel ready. |

That's what has me confused. There is no mention on whether the damage is with or without the charge I'm going to send an email to CCP about this for clarification. |

What are your thoughts on the changes Maken, I'm curious!
I'm liking it considering the following.
Post 5 Updated
Again, my only gripe is that I am currently unable to sprint with the charge held.
There were a few fun encounters I had just recently during these tests. I was surrounded by 4 mercs at one time in Manus Peak Skirmish and since I didn't want to skew my test results with any self-defense stikes, I decided to screw around with them by dancing around in their group as they shot me. Surprisingly, I lasted a good ten seconds despite the barrage of assault gunfire.
The second fun encounter was with a sniper who I just grabbed his attention without attacking and decided to let him shoot me while I played with him. He was running backwards shooting him SMG at me while I casually sprinting towards him doing a few gentle strafes here and there. A clip and a half later, he was still trying to kill me until his friendly logi came in and ended the party. Poor fella didn't realize I have spared his life. |

Nova Knife wrote:Maken Tosch wrote:[
Please read the updated post. Very important info there on the Nova Knife Damage. It looks like the knives are practically insane. Yeah, that's what I found. Combined with the new aim-assist for melee (Which is frankly overzealous, being close enough to someone but not having them in your directly FOV, you can still hit them half the time) The damage listed in show info for adv and proto knives are fine IMO, but that needs to be the damage they do while charged. I agree that sprinting while charged is a must, but the 'quick swipes' should be something someone uses as a finisher after a charged swipe! Currently, there's pretty much no reason to charge them as you can just spam r1 do crazy damage!
Actually, I like it the way they are. Besides, knowing how CCP tends to over nerf things, I don't want them touched anymore. |

R'adeh Hunt wrote:Sontie wrote:AV charged swipes would be awesome.
I don't think it needs a nerf. I think certain other things need a buff. I can run through a group of red dots, and if none of them has a TAR and can aim, I can knife 2-3 of them and run out before my shields pop. That's because they simply don't react quick enough using the right tactic. If they keep standing close together like fools, sure, they deserve to die. They should move a bit out where they have all the advantage again.
You're assuming they'll remember that when you surprise them in a dark crowded room. I remember running straight into a bunker full of assault mercs and managed to kill off at least three of them resulting in some rather embarrassing losses on their side. A knifer in a cramped room full of mercs is a disaster waiting to happen. |
