This is getting tiresome. I returned to this game last night to see what had changed since I was last on back in January. I had hoped you could actually change up the default controller settings by this point, but alas no.
Seriously developers, having SPRINT on the L3 setting is unplayable for me. Everytime I turn to aim at someone I trigger the run mode and stop shooting for a second, just long enough for someone to get the jump on me. Very frustrating. And if something is frustrating, it's not fun. This is why I walked away at the beginning of the year, and why I'm walking away until this is rectified. If it ever will be.
(I suppose now I'll get a slew of "Get Out", "Bye", "See ya" and "Get Better" comments by the inept social miscreants of the community who are Oh-So-Tough behind their keyboayds.) |

They promised (among other things) this in May 6 Uprisng update:

So if you insist on giving up, just maybe reconsider checking in back in May? |

Note how the OP mentioned they were trying to "aim" when it happened, and note how L3 isn't on the stick used to aim, suggesting that it was an attempt to aim down sights, and NOT an accidental press of the button.
The problem is that we can't customise our controls, not that OP is clumsy. If the problem was clumsiness, then changing controls wouldn't help, because if you're clumsy and bad with the controller, you're going to suck no matter what control scheme you use.
I still recommend the devs look to Brink and Armored Core V for examples of how to do sixaxis control customisation. |

Intresting, so you can't play any other shooter as well, because sprint on L3 is just regular.
I understand that you are frustrated about not being able to change the controls. But if you try to step back from Dust, keep checking out the forums so you see which changes are actually going on and you would have known we have a new build "uprising" coming out on the 6th of may, which might have the changes you want included. I am not sure about that right now.
This last passage is just ridicoulus, you can't blame people for telling the truth.

There are a LOT of shooters where L3 isn't the default sprint button. It's a common default, but it's not universal. |

That's true but it's very common, I didn't play any of the games mentioned, unless Brink, but this just on PC and it was a quiet worse experience, another lost 50 bucks ;)

It has some great ideas, and did some of them justice, it just didn't all come together quite the way it should have, and some of the "innovation" looked suspiciously like "stupidity" would have been a more accurate term. Lack of lobby or party system being a perfect example. yeah and the public mathces you could join were also just a bunch of blueberries running confused around the map, running on wals, and stuff like had. It had nice ideas but I think it died also very fast. I just played it for 1 or 2 weeks. |

Although Transformers and Red Faction: Guerrilla and Armageddon are third person shooters, not first person shooters, so the controls will be different. In most FPS games L3 sprint is standard. |

I understand this is "still in Beta", but exactly how many beta builds have there been since June of last year at this point? In my opinion, this is something that should have been implemented (and easily could have) LONG ago.

With other shooters I have played, the act of sprinting does not cancel out your abilty to shoot. In Dust 514, if I am in a close quarters firefight with someone, then I press just a bit too hard on L3 while attempting to avoid a rain of bullets and simultaneously return fire, away goes my gun. Bad control design.
Also, the only types who would find my last passage ridiculous are those same social miscreants and keyboard crusaders who it applies to. |

Nevermind then. Not a priority, eh? Well, not to sound testy but I guess this game just isn't a priority for me either then. What conceit. The developers pay more attention to silly events and sound effects than how someone can actually play their game. To be fair, there are other things far more important that need to be addressed first. & yes sound is far more important than your particular beef with the controls. I can't even think of a console FPS that deviates far from this control scheme. Believe me, I want custom controls more than anyone, I really miss my melee. But even I can't argue that they should be priority over things like, graphics, framerate, lag, matchmaking, balancing, UI, Eve/Dust connection, etc, etc, etc... |

CCP can add and replace maps and store content and server-side stuff whenever they want. those are not "new builds". a new build requires users to re-download the client. |

Controller Settings in a game are the most important thing in a game at least for me, if you are not comfortable with the controller scheme you are not enjoying the game I know that are more "important" things to update in this game but custom controller scheme should be there from day 1, I would love to use a hybrid scheme with a ps3 nav controller for the left side and a mouse for the right or use a ps vita as a controller. |
