Depends. Are you an idiot that doesn't know when and when not to directly engage a hostile area with no infantry support? If yes, then no. If no, then yes. As much as I would love to see more of these idiot tankers. |

Do you want to drive a tank? if you do. go for it, tanks are sturdy dependable platforms. if you think "i see tankers have insane KDs and get tons of kills, i want one." stick with infantry
reasons not to tank: 1.) i don't want to ever die again 2.) unfamiliar with the skill system 3.) don't know/don't care the difference between shields and armor 4.) you think a shield tank with a armor rep is a good idea 5.) you think the tank makes the pilot 6.) the fitting process confuses you 7.) just slap on more armor plates right? 8.) HA stupid swarms don't scare me i'm in a tank! 9.) small railgun turrets are a great idea! 10.) meh, i'll give my gunners MLT turrets they don't mind 11.) MLT gear is good and cheap 12.) i still want to be effective as infantry if i drive a tank
if you have thought ANY of these things tank driving may NOT be the career for you!

the smart ones play it 50-50 sometimes we go with infantry if there are good AV players on the enemy team, if theres nothing to stop us we will annihilate the enemy by ourselves |

You can get 400,000-700,000 isk payouts if your infantry is doing their job and killing AV guys while u kill everything else.
If not, youll lose more than you make. Also, only bring out good tanks in Corp matches. In pub, anything more than 800,000 is too risky. |

Depends how you fit it, you could have a Sagaris, but it could be a **** fit.
Train yourself in becoming a real tanker using Sicas and Somas, train up turrets and the modules you need. Then move onto a better tank.
There is no point putting Militia crap on an expensive tank
EDIT: I made roughly 5 million ISK from my tank today, I lost it twice. Each fit costs me 600k, so I basically made 3.8 mil ISK, not the best, but not too bad either. So it can payout big time, I've gotten +400k ISK from Ambush matches sometimes. |

If your fitting is bad, you're going to lose it fast. If you suck at tanks, you're going to die horribly and often.
Barring the above situations, a well-supported tank is a powerful asset to any team, and is VERY difficult to shut down. In Skirmish in particular, and to a slightly lesser degree, OMS, a cautious tank driver can be an asset without the required infantry support. |

Yea.

Sometimes they will call in a rail HAV so they can snipe you down. I for sure have done this multiple times where an enemy HAV pops up with the advantage of surprise and destroys my HAV. I call in my rail HAV and using squad support it's my turn that I get the advantage of surprise and pop his HAV. |

Bad tankers go into ambush - Less chance of it getting mullared by proper AV or just lots of ppl spamming AV in general, OB and installations
Skirmish prepares you for general shitstorm and what to do when you in the middle of it, it tends to be unpredictable and can test you as a tanker to an extent
Problem is always this for me, bring out a blaster they bring out a railgun and snipe you for the rest of the match while they are in the redline and you have no chance of hitting them - i do this with a railgun to an extent but after the tank is dead i then roam a little bit around the map |

any skirmish map that is open rail tank rules and there is jack any blaster tank can do about it, for example on manus peak i don't even bother spawning a blaster tank anymore.
generally tanks aren't worth it unless you are really good as proto and advanced AV gear becomes more and more common tanks will become less common, even the best infantry support in the world won't stop 2 or 3 proto swarmers/forge gunners up in the hills killing your tank in 1 volley. |
